It may have been a mistake to list them at Gamescom, but I think it's safe to say those titles are pretty much coming sooner or later.
[UPDATE] Event organizers say Half-Life 3 and Dragon Age III were mistakenly listed on official document.
[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, Gamescom organizers told Eurogamer that listings for Half-Life 3 and Dragon Age III were not intended to be included in the document. No explanation was provided as to why these games were mentioned. Original story follows below.
An official Gamescom document includes mention of Half-Life 3, stirring commotion that Valve's long-awaited action game may be on the horizon. Gamers may want to temper their excitement, though, as Valve's vice president of marketing, Doug Lombardi, told LambdaGeneration, "We will have the Steam team [at Gamescom] to meet with developers and publishers. No game showing planned."
It is not clear why Half-Life 3 is included on the Gamescom product list, and as of press time, Valve had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
The most recent Half-Life game was 2007's Half-Life 2: Episode Two. That game advances the story of previous entries Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One. A third episode was planned but has not seen the light of day.
In addition to Half-Life 3, the list includes mention of Dragon Age III. This game has not been announced, but BioWare has been openly hiring for the new role-playing game since May 2011. Dragon Age: Origins has shipped more than 3.2 million units globally since debuting in 2009, and its sequel--Dragon Age II--has shipped more than 2 million units since premiering in March 2011.
That's like me accidentally mentioning I have a sonic the hedgehog teddy. You don't mention it unless it's based in fact, no matter how much you wish you hadn't said anything.... hey wait... I...
People are always asking "where's Episode 3/HL3?" Look out the source engine, Half life 2 came out in 2004 ( I think) and it's graphics are still amazing (imo) I bet HL3 is so amazingly advanced that they're just waiting for systems to advance to the next gen cause they current gen just won't be good enough to run this near biblical beauty!
@Jesse-FettWow, thats optimistic, but i do think it will be great and I hope they are not holding out for the new consoles, bring the new one out at the end of this era then bring a new one out 4 years or so into the new consoles when most of us have been able to buy one, not as soon as they come out, not all could afford the crazy pricess they want in the first year of release.
You know Valve is just playing with everyone's minds. They think they are smarter than all of us, and they may be partially right in some cases, but come on. I think they would look pretty foolish if they didn't make this game and I don't even care about it at all. I just know what I hear and read and if half of it's true, they would make a mistake to not make this game. Aren't you guys tired of getting the runaround, kind of like with the Last Guardian?
Well if people didn't already know there's a patent of some kind of Steambox made by Valve about a week ago already. What's likely to happen with the Steam coming to Linux thing is this, they wanna make their own custom distribution of Linux based on Ubuntu to run on Steambox and make it a console. This will probably launch with Half Life 3 to push sales.
In a lot of ways, LFD2 has felt a lot like Half-Life 3, which is probably why a game with that name will never see the light of day.
I told you it'd be funny if we put HL3 on Valve's application form, hehe
As to why Valve keep denying the existence of HL3, if fans are foaming at the mouth for it, and it'll make Valve millions of dollars, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? it's like they're doing it just to spite us for loving Gordon Freeman.
Dragon Age 3 I believe. Half-Life 3...that's like breaking a law of physics.
Likely they're holding that back for the next generation.
Funny how the mistake was with 2 great games involved and no one cares about DA3 when it has HALF-LIFE3 next to it... lol
If the mistake only happened with hl3 then I would say that it was on purpose, but it happened with 2 games from 2 different companies, so for me it realy was a mistake, nothing else.
With how long HL3/ HL2 Ep 3 has been in the works, at this point its required to give me on-demand orgasms to consider buying it.
They lied. That's what I gathered from this, but more importantly, it seems as though the next "Half-Life" is not going to be in an episodic form, but a full-fledged game, hence how the name was teased: "Half-Life 3" instead of "Half-Life 2: Episode 3" which is a mouth full...
Valve surely has done a pretty sneaky job up there...........This long waiting Episode 3 is somewhat has become the rare full moon......But mistake at first about HF???sounds strange...What do u say guys???
At this point, I've given up hope. I don't even get excited when I hear a headline like "Half-Life 3 teased" or "Half-Life 2: Episode 3 may show up at E3 next month." It will come eventually, but I won't be excited until Valve actually shows the darn thing.
I want Half-Life 3!!! But I willing to wait if it's going to be on the Source Engine 2. I hope it will have major graphics improvements.
If there aren't making it right now, don't you think Valve should take a hint, take a break from everything else they're doing, and start working on Half-Life 3 full-pelt?
Once Valve got Half-Life to 2, and got the Episodes to 2, I'm surprised the universe didn't implode.
Yea.... DA:O was one of my favourite games in recent history, DA2 I bought blindly and it soured the series for me...a lot of unforgivable BS there... DA3 had better be a ways away and not expect anywhere near a day one purchase from me or a lot of other fans. Good luck selling that after the DA2 event! HL3 is going to become the next Bigfoot. Anyone who claims to have proof will only have fuzzy photos and wear a tinfoil hat while everyone questions their sanity...
I don't care how good Dragon Age III will be, i won't ever think about getting Dragon Age III before having a chance to try it properly.
Dragon Age II is one of my biggest regrets and i don't want to repeat the same mistake.
@ Valve Studios
"Okay guys it's time for a new Half Life, after HL2 comes.....umm...half....life......this is harder than we thought -_-"
Read Half Life 3 and my heart stopped..........................................................................
It better wait for next gen. Even though it has been eight years since HL2, no need to put it on eight year old components. HL2 was on the Xbox. It would skip a whole system.
@TheOnlyConan Sorry, but my PC is already next-gen, and I would rather not wait for M$ and Sony's less-than-innovative new consoles.
I agree. But if they make it for this generation of consoles, the pc version will suffer. It was that way for many other games.
@TheOnlyConan Unless they build it from the ground up for the PC, like they have for every single one of their other releases...
@TheOnlyConan the Last HL was in 07,dnt ignore episode two man it was a really awesome game :p
sigh i figured as much........ i guess valve will wait till next gen now.
not that i mind since my new gtx680 will make it look epic.
