How long did MS thought they could keep fooling people? The whole series have been overrated by the press.Never an original idea.Simplistic and repetitive gameplay.Cliche story and forgettable characters.Uninspired art direction.Sound effects lifted directly from toys. The whole series has been like that. But I guess after the press forgot to mention in the reviews that Halo 3 was little improved over Halo 2, and Reach was only marginally better than 3 people just had enough of the overrating.Well when I say people I'm excluding of course the easily entertained Americans. For me they lost me at Halo 2, it's no where near as good as the press painted it to be.
First-week sales of Microsoft's new sci-fi shooter not enough to beat out 2007's Halo 3 or 2010's Halo: Reach.
Halo 4 was the United Kingdom's best selling title last week, but the first core title from 343 Industries fell short of sales milestones from Bungie-developed entries. According to the latest Chart Track data, Halo 4's first-week sales were good enough for the 18th biggest launch in the region to date, behind 2010's Halo: Reach (12th) and 2007's Halo 3 (15th).
Halo 4 sold "slightly more" units than last week's top-seller Assassin's Creed III to earn the top spot, with Ubisoft's new stealth-action game slipping to the number two spot. Rounding out the top five were FIFA 13, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Football Manager 2013.
Of note, Electronic Arts (3) led all publishers in representation on the top ten list, followed by Ubisoft (2). Additionally, no non-sequels made it on the week's top-selling list.
Top 10 UK software sales (all platforms) for the week ended November 10.
1. Halo 4 - Microsoft
2. Assassin's Creed III - Ubisoft
3. FIFA 13 - Electronic Arts
4. Need For Speed: Most Wanted - Electronic Arts
5. Football Manager 2013 - Sega
6. Skylanders Giants - Activision Blizzard
7. WWE '13 - THQ
8. Borderlands 2 - Take-Two Interactive
9. Just Dance 4 - Ubisoft
10. Medal of Honor: Warfighter - Electronic Arts
$59.00 has always been too much money for a new game. Now that people have less money, $59 is becoming totally out of the question. And besides, all gamers seem to be waiting for are recreations of the same games, and we evidently are growing weary from it.
Maybe its because the UK is in an economic double?... triple? dip recession.. depression?... i have the game but all my friends say they cant afford it and will get it for christmas. So if this is a larger trend i expect sales to be more spread across the christmas period as people add it to their christmas lists.
New Developer. They may have a tiny bit of Bungie employees, and they may be using Halo Assets and the Halo Engine, but they still have a reputation to build with consumers.
Well UK gamers no offense... but that top 10 list sucks overall... Halo 4 is engaging and extremely competitive as long as you know what your doing. There is a difference between pro caliber gamers and casual... COD fits the latter of the two. Im addicted to this game level 47 already. Looking for GOOD players add my gamertag if interested MadillMinded.
@madillminded Its ranked 1 what more do you want? And how does the list suck? If thats what people want to play then good for them.
Reach is the better game sorry.. At the end of reach i felt BadAss and heroic even though i knew i wasn't going to make it, also reach multiplayer is more balance in my eyes, in halo 4 "Latency" plays a big part and the hit box is a bit off at times.. Add to that this story is kicking off a new trilogy so i start out a bit weak (as expected), and in all its a great game but REACH was a better overall experience for me..
It is a good game so far. The multiplayer is a bit chaotic and cheap at times. I fail at the Battle Rifle but own better with the DMR.
For me, I say the game is slightly tied with Reach. It has some better elements of gameplay, but missing some other elements Reach had.
My "Halo 4 Rocks!" message filled Facebook page would beg to differ, as would my Xbox Live friends "activity" list. I'm confident that Halo 4 will outsell previous titles without much trouble.
@Landsharkk I've only seen about 5 out of 80 friends on Xbox Live playing Halo 4...then there's a lot of Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3...and then some great taste in older games.
Indeed, i mean they're going for EA games as a preference so it must mean that. I can't wait to get the new Fifa, oh what a game it shall..be...
Tis a good game.
My only gripe is that there is no Fire fight. While I do agree Spartan Ops is supposed to be what replaced it, it felt more like Halos attempt at CoDs Spec Ops than anything else. All I ask is a return to classic firefight... AND ONE VERY BIG ISSUE BEING that the enemy variety in this game was HORRIBLE. ONLY. 7. ENEMIES. TOTAL.
@dxBIGBOSSxb more than just 1 enemy in cod.
True, but I expected better from Halo.
Hell, Reach with JUST THE COVENANT as your enemy had Grunts, Elites, Brutes, Jackals, Skirmishers, Hunters, Those flying bug thingies, and all of which had distinctive ranks that split each races versatility higher, making low ranking and higher ranking enemies so different from each other, they might as well have been completely different enemies... also more vehicle variety.
In Halo 4, they all look and fight the same, with the only significant variation in the Promethean ranks... barely.
@dxBIGBOSSxb from a gameplay stand point i agree with u but from a story stand point i don't, it wouldn't have made any sense to have these species in the game maybe in halo 5 they will explain why this is. and i don't know if u have attempted legendary solo yet but the prometheans on there own are may more of a challenge than what any elite has giving me on any other halo game, i do think they could have added an extra enemy or 2 but i'm happy what iv'e played of the game cant wait to see what happens next.
@jayjay444I know the lore quite well thank you, but as far as versatility goes with the covenant, I DON'T CARE. There is no excuse OUTSIDE of the lore why they couldn't use the other races OR make more Prometheans. I expected a hell of a lot more from the "most expensive game ever made by Microsoft". As for the "symbol on the armor", so what? I didn't deny there are officer ranks, just that they all act the EXACT SAME and are visually indifferent from each other outside of Groovy head gear. The elite ranks in Reach had Jet packed Rangers, gun toating Generals, sword weilding Zealots, heavy handed Ultras (My favs :P), and aggresive Seargents. All as one race with destinctive weapons, abilities, tactics, and strengths.
All I get in Halo 4 is, Elite 1, 2, 3, and 4. Difference? A silly helmet, and more over shields. I can only think of one that is unique and that's the cloaked one... but it's just Elite 2 with cloak!
@dxBIGBOSSxb on halo 4 it's a different faction of covenant, alot of the different species are not in that faction, and a little detail u might have not noticed, if u look at a dead elite and u see a symbol on his armour, u can see that it's a different symbol than the covenant that was in previous halo game's. And also the civil war has still split most of the covenant so u were never going to fight the same amount of enemy that were in reach, and don't forget reach was a prequel to halo 1.
You'd think with the huge installed base of 70 million consoles as opposed to like 55 million when Reach launched or like 15 million when Halo 3 launched, that Halo 4 would easily surpass those numbers. Perhaps COD launching a mere week later has something to do with it?
Possibly. Although i'm a convert. I was almost a COD player, but then it just stayed the same...and more of the same...and more of the same. Even the campaigns became boring and predictable.
I just lost interest after MW2, and Infinity Ward disappeared. However 343's takeover of the franchise has been both smooth and excellent.
Halo never changes, it's been the same old shit since the first and the multiplayer hasn't changed since the second. The only good thing about the original was the A.I, they screwed that up with the flood and for some reason they keep wanting to face different enemy types that aren't fun to fight. I hate the level design in Halo games too, they're just so copy and paste, really really repetitive and lack any detail. Finally I hate the story, it's just so cliche and forgettable.
I don't get why it is liked.
@Tixylixx You don't get it because your wrong .. Halo 4 takes the game is so many great directions and its not the same game by far. Only part that's the same in multiplayer is killing and people like the challenge of playing against live thinking people FYI..
@Tixylixx To each his own. But I can tell you why I like it. I love to the story, I think that as far as shooters go Halo has the most complete story of any of them. It's more than just an excuse to shoot things. As far as Multiplayer, Halo is the ONLY shooters that I have played where out smarting your opponent is critical to success. Other modern console shooters just require the player to hold the trigger down until your opponent dies. In addition, most other shooters have a very large degree of trail an error. If you have the wrong weapon for an encounter, you die, there is no way to "fight" your way out of it. Not to say that other shooters are bad, this is just my opinion
@Tixylixx you are a fucking dumbass, Halo has evolved, changed, and developed more than any FPS franchise still going. More so that the COD fair, although i hate to compare them as they are completely different games.
@Tixylixx ok u have NEVER played a halo game, and u have most definitely not played halo 4. If u are saying halo 4 is like all the other halos then u are an idiot go play halo 4 and play halo 1, 2, and 3, and u will see how different from each other they really are. And to say they lack detail means your stupid, there's more small details in reach than there is in any other game on xbox, also the flood are boring? u enjoyed halo 1 and yet u don't remember fighting the flood init? and the reason why it's liked and loved by so many is because the story is the best story on a fps game not to mention the game has unique gameplay mechanics that are in no other shooter, most people buy it for the single player not the multiplayer, And one last thing the multiplayer isnt the same since halo 2, if u played halo 2 and then halo 3 u would notice somethings different, but u would notice a huge difference form halo 3 to reach. Also the detail on the multiplayer maps have more detail on them than any other online shooter FACT, next time u hate on halo make sure u know some facts first kid.
@jayjay444 Actually you're wrong about one thing dude: Most people buy Halo for the multiplayer, not the singleplayer. The multiplayer is what gives Halo its infinite amount of replayability whether in matchmaking or custom games or LAN. Im not saying that people don't like the Halo singleplayer. What I am saying is that MOST people just wanna team up with friends & kill people online cuz it's loads of infinite FUN.
@Tixylixx "Halo never changes"
Haven't played Halo 4, have you?
Huge Halo fan talking here, so Halo 4 left me with mixed feelings.
at first I hated it... I absolutely hated it. Then it grew on me... now I'm addicted to it like I was Reach, and Halo 3...
Actually i am in Mexico, and i can tell you that HAlo 4 did not make even to the top 5, Assasins Creed is in first place and i think FIFA is in second. It is probably because many are buying COD Black ops 2 instead of Halo.
It's also a Shame that Halo 4 is not welcome in Japan and none of the Japanese are not into FPS. But then again, Japan is not into Xbox 360 and I hope MS just forget about Japan when they release there next-gen Xbox.
@EasyComeEasyGo I agree and looking at the other side to it, it is very interesting how this region/ US supports Sony, Nintendo (in consoles) and defend them in forums but Japan rejects an American made product. Where is the line drawn to 'buy local'?
Probably because of black ops 2 being released just a week after halo 4s launch. Id imagine some people put halo 4 off so that they could buy COD. I bought halo but im gonna have to get cod now cause all my friends are playing that crap, dont wanna feel left out.
Hopefully sales will pick up more as word spreads. Really enjoying it so far. Black Ops 2 and AC3 are tough competitors (almost put off Halo 4 myself with AC3 coming out a week before), but I think the reaction to Black Ops 2 won't be much better than to MW3.
@Black_Hand_313 What's it to you if sales pick up more? They already have more than enough to make a sequel.
Thankfuly bungie made Halo big, so 343 can ride that Halo brand like Activision rides Diablo.... its just not the same at all. 343 might as well made their own game. "Halo 4" means its the 4th .. unless you count all the other crap which wasn't popular but then you slap MC into the game and everyone is going nuts(so its beyond sequel.. and from the sounds of it 343 plans to milk Halo).
@Master_Vexov @mr_azim @Black_Hand_313 halo 4 looks 2x better than reach and runs smooth as hell, and the changes they made are amazing, bungie wasnt willing to take much of a risk, 343 took a risk and it has paid of. It feels different but yet it keeps the core game mechanics, trust me halo 4 plays like no other halo maybe u should buy it before u dis it, i hate people that dont try a game but hate all over it when they dont even know what it's like it's annoying.
