Halo team seeking devs with MMO experience

Job ads for software engineers at 343 Industries seek staffers with MMO know-how to build technology services for Master Chief saga.
Microsoft has put out a call for staffers with massively multiplayer online game development experience to join 343 Industries to work on future Halo projects. Two job listings at 343 Industries were posted yesterday, both for software development engineers who will work on "building the next generation of backend services to power Halo 4 and our new game saga."
These job listings follow additional requisitions posted last week that indicated 343 Industries was staffing up for mystery "incubation projects." A Microsoft representative declined to comment.
If Microsoft is building a Halo MMO, it will not be the first time the company has done so. The Microsoft-owned (and now defunct) Ensemble Studios spent three years on a Halo MMORPG codenamed Titan that reportedly held a $90 million budget before it was canceled in 2007.
Microsoft shipped Halo 4 earlier this month to a warm critical reception and day-one sales of $220 million. Halo 5 and Halo 6 have been confirmed as part of the Reclaimer Trilogy, though platforms for these games have not been revealed.
Job listings from July suggest 343 Industries is at work on a Halo game for a next-generation platform. Microsoft will reportedly have its next Xbox on store shelves during the back half of 2013.

There's only one epic-proportioned game that I truly want in life and that's an open-world 1st person Pokemon game. If the U had that i'd be buying it day one.
Halo MMO though.. hmm.. don't quite see how it'd word all that well personally.
PC exclusive - MMOFPS would be great... think Planetside 2, but Halo Universe - I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
7 Like Halo 4 was a great game, but they shouldn't milk the series. Besides, MMO's are running out of steam. They should try something different. Maybe a Dead Space style survival horror against the flood, or a 3rd person shooter. Heck, try a Halo version of the Star Wars Battlefront series, that could work. But MMO spin-offs don't usually go well. Just look at TOR. I bet the Elder Scrolls MMO will fall short too.

1 Like Nope, not unless some major deal happens between Microsoft and Nintendo. I doubt Nintendo would sell its soul to Microsoft, so Halo will probably always stay exclusively on the Xbox.
The MMO genre has become quite stale and the mechanics in this type of games are archaic at best, I always find it sad and a waste when a group of talented developers and artists create this magnificent worlds and then paste the same old mechanics in there. Haven't played Guild wars 2 but Heard they are trying new stuff.

Halo is fun due to the combat mechanics and unique Halo "feel."
I'm a fan of Halo's extended universe, but I don't believe the standard MMORPG button mashing affair would translate well to Halo. It would be an awfully boring experience that would hemorrhage early adopters, much like TOR.
Perhaps this new trilogy will open up the avenue of a Planetside 2 MMOFPS. The factions Covenant, Forerunner, and Humans, with different classes (Spartan IV's/Elites/Promethean Knights the equivalent of a MAX) and a large scale battlefield.
If they could keep similar mechanics to Halo, while translating the game from arena style to battlefield style gameplay, it might be able to work.
Even if it is a "me too" type of game, the Halo branding and gameplay could carry the game.
Having said that, subscription MMOs are already dying so I just don't see the allure of doing an MMO. 343 would probably generate more cash pumping out Halo sequels than they would with a MMO.
p.s: IF YOU WILL, PLEASE PORT HALO 4 INTO PC VERSION, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THAT MMO THINGE.
the future of gaming, were every game charges you monthly. meaning every gamer can only have 1 game to sustain his life income.
2 Like @DrizztDark @Max_160 you have no logic behind your reason. i already have a job, and go to college, and guess what, i still don't have enough to buy games, barely to feed myself. plus, even if a person did have an amazing 100k per year job, imagine he had 10-20 games, and each game he or she payed 15-20 bucks a month. unless you don't have kids, live by yourself, and don't take care of your parents, sure it will work, but it is the most stupidest idea. you want all your hard work money to go to pay for games monthly, which you could play online only, which means you don't actually own them. gaming has evolved to a point where we pay to own a game for a certain time. almost all games require internet, now with new mmo generation they will require to pay monthly, which is a giant scam. what happened to old gaming, where we buy a disc and own it, internet or no internet, it's my property.

@Kunakai bro I had planet side one and it fuckin sucked. So I wouldn't get too high of hopes for it... Kinda weird. I noticed most people that hate on games like halo and cod which actually rock the gaming world tend too always praise shity games
@DrizztDark @Kunakai Try Planetside 2, it's just an MMO version of halo / Battlefield (which are very similar when it comes down to the basic mechanics i.e. vehicles n such).

Ever since its launch, I was the fan of 343i, I was there during their pre-beta forum days. And Halo 4 is the best Halo I played in years, but for the love of god, don't do MMO. I just quit from 8 years of RuneScape, and I am so bored of MMO in general. Please make Halo Wars 2 or other Halo titles, but not a MMO.
@Grimkillah if they do it right it could be awesome but the with most deff have too change the mom structure as we know it... Can't be having the same traditional tank,dps,healer which has been the case since every mmo before gw2

@Evilbunz @GamerMani you don't know if it's gonna be FPS lol, blizzard won't do FPS because it's not their style, I assume Titan project is "Wow 2" with Reforged next gen graphics, gameplay, engine etc. Or starcraft MMO "like ghost game must been" and 10% that it's new IP .

Think that's bad try playing FPS using a mouse and keyboard. Being able to only move in 4 directions (WASD) is hilarious.
@I_ArCh0n_I @Tripwolf you must not play PCgames much cause that's what the mouse is used for and is far more accurate and faster then a controller If disagree with me every person that plays pc games will laugh at you.... Just take it
@I_ArCh0n_I @Tripwolf no doubt bro. I said that a a few comments down There is only stop and go which is just about the only down fall. im a console player too and beast halo or cod. For me keyboard mouse combo far more by far faster with pin point accuracy.

I play PC and console, console allows much more freedom bur is more difficult to master.
With keyboard you are using digital movement, with only 4-8 directions of movement and only at 2 speeds (stop and go). With controller you can move at an infinite number of speeds and an infinite number of directions (as per the rules of analog). And those are facts not opinions.
2 Like @I_ArCh0n_I @Tripwolf from what i know most fps on computer that use keyboard and mouse you can move in 8 direction with combination of keys (WSAD and A+W W+D A+S S+D)
@TheSkyrimStatue @bonzo88zjm @I_ArCh0n_I @Tripwolf In games where it matters, you would have some button for "slow walk", otherwise, full walk speed + sprint is perfectly fine. After playing fps games on pc for the past few years, it's really hard for me to go back to a controller (possible, but not an easy transition).

1 Like @bonzo88zjm @I_ArCh0n_I @Tripwolf Just wondering, how is movement speed controlled on PC? Because on console you can push the stick forward a little bit to go slower but I assume on PC you're either pressing a button to go full speed or you're not pressing it at all.
