[UPDATE]: Square Enix dates Agent 47's latest assignment on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC; Sniper Challenge side game to launch May 15 for customers who preorder.
[UPDATE]: The North American arm of Square Enix today confirmed a November 20 release date for Hitman: Absolution on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The original story follows below.
Square Enix has announced the downloadable, stand-alone "experience" Hitman: Sniper Challenge as a preorder bonus for the upcoming Hitman: Absolution, the latest in IO Interactive's stealth action assassination series. Those who preorder Hitman: Absolution on the PC, Xbox 360, or PlayStation 3 from certain retailers will get access to the bonus sniping experience on May 15 on console and on August 1 on PC.
The publisher calls Hitman: Sniper Challenge a "standalone 'hit' in the Hitman universe…intended as separate content for fans to enjoy whilst waiting for Hitman: Absolution to be released." In the assassination mission, Agent 47 must dispatch a weapons company executive and his bodyguards.
Hitman: Sniper Challenge will let players unlock the Silenced Agency Kazo TRG for use in the main Hitman: Absolution game, as well as "a further 12 weapon techniques." The challenge will also feature online global, national, and friends leaderboards.
Players who have already preordered Hitman: Absolution can claim a code for Sniper Challenge if they placed their preorder with a participating retailer. The full list of participating retailers can be found on the official site, www.hitman.com. Those who cancel their preorders will still be able to play Sniper Challenge.
hitman absolution is the shit!i've been keeping close tabs on this game, following every trailer, news sounbite, what ever i can lay my hands on.it brings a whole new experience to the series.i will be shocked if this game doesn't sell a million copies!
i will be getting this. A lot of good stuff towards the end of the year. with this game, halo 4, assisians creed 3 and resident evil 6
What a bummer... I was hoping to see it around June this year.. Have to say I'm not as excited now as the year-end release window sees a barrage of high profile releases.
I'm jumping in before August 1 then. Hitman is one of the most compelling game concepts, ever. I planned to pre-order, any bonus to that is superfluous.
Don't care a lot about the challenging thing! Can't wait for this1, btw I'm somehow glad they didn't do it on multiplayer2 like god of war.
So many good games, so little time. I REALLY loved the first two Hitman games. If this one follows in their footsteps it'll definitely be a buy (if I can clear my existing gaming plate! :P).
I hope GAMESTOP is offering this ? yup , I have Hitman pre -ordered over a month ago , I like to get whatever any game has to offer within reason ...
hmm , I am already wondering about this sniper deal ?...
Liking how Square are leaving the PC fans in the cold for two and a half months, and also unceremoniously dropping three people who have been with the franchise since day 1. David Bateson. the voice of 47, the music maestro Jesper Kyd and the voice of 47's handler Diana Burnwood, done by Vivienne McKee.
Also some of the plot points that have been confirmed for the game are a bit stupid. One of the early missions has you killing Diana! http://www.siliconera.com/2012/01/18/hitman-absolution-isnt-a-reboot-but-not-part-of-the-series-timeline-either/
I mean come on, Square, if you're going to try to milk a franchise you've bought, at least stay true to the f***ing previous games, man.
I don't think I ever gave a crap about the story in those games, but I have to admit that's pretty stupid. I'm hoping the gameplay will be somewhat similar to Blood Money at least.
This is actually the first Hitman game I'm really looking forward to play. The other games were take-it or leave-it, imo. This game seems to exude a much higher level of quality compared to all the other games in the series. And that's a pretty good pre-order bonus, something to play, to tide you over till the game launches. I hope other companies follow in these footsteps.
Ok, cool a pre-order bones but what happened to good old demos. I know this is not part of the full game but if they can get player interested in hitman it will work better for them in the long run. I'm going to buy the game but I don't think this justifies paying full pre-order price. I'll just wait till there's a offer on steam.
Absolution is just looking amazing. Though I most likely won't be getting it when it first comes out since AC3 comes out around the same time.
Hitman Absolution looks great! Don't know if I'll get it day 1 though. Too much goodness coming out this fall.
Can't wait for this to come out. I can't afford the pre-order yet thanks to Diablo 3, but luckily I've still got plenty of time to get in on the pre-order.
you will probably be able to buy the sniper challenge thing as DLC when released...
only really interested in the main game anyway.
Meh all I want is a release date for this game and for retailers in my country to inform me if they are getting the Professional edition or not. That is all
Consoles are killing gaming industry because they are limited. PC should be the only gaming platform! beside smartphones
@TheL33T what are you on about....obviously you only play on pc and phones
@TheL33T i would'nt say consoles are killing the gaming industry since its only because of console gaming that we have all these good games ( im not talking about himan as i know that started on pc) and you cant talk about console being limited and then go on to say smartphones should be around! also pc are limited as well just because they are more powerful then console does not change the fact that its fun, and easy to play console games as well as the fact that there is more game choice!
my PC does not want to load the hitman page, any chance someone could upload the participating retailer on here?
for a franchise born on PC, this is quite a disappointment; a couple of weeks would have been fine, but 3 months later than the console version is really a major letdown.
Probably a typical sniper game akin to one of those online flash games. Not really that appealing. Wonder what "12 weapons *techniques* " means though. If it said enhancements, I'd be thinking scopes etc., but techniques? That sounds interesting. Maybe they actually meant enhancements though :P

@R-ZZZ we have been betrayed once more......
@DITHRICH I know right......It's total bulls***,every game is being pushed back for months untill the PC version is out.Probably 2 years after the game is on PC the new one will come out!!!!! f-ing bulls***. I will get this on ps3,but I'm also a Huge PC gamer and it's outrageous, and worse,we have to get used to it!...
"Those who cancel their pre-orders will still be able to play Sniper Challenge."
