Namco Bandai's gruesome fantasy action adventure pegged for midwinter release on Xbox 360, PS3.
Namco Bandai earned a strong critical response in October with Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, a third-person action adventure in which a crafty female dominated a thuggish male in a far-future dystopia to ensure her safety. The publisher will be revisiting that formula next year with Knights Contract, announcing today that the gore-heavy action adventure will arrive for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation on February 22.
Knights Contract sees players following the unlikely duo of the witch Gretchen and the immortal executioner Heinrich. Though Gretchen actually died at Heinrich's hands, she has been resurrected and now controls the scythe-wielding warrior. Together the pair struggles to save the world from a "black spell of death" and a supernatural army called the Harmonculous.
The duo fight in what Namco is calling "stylized and over-the-top action," with players controlling Heinrich and stringing together appendage-dismembering combos while the computer-controlled Gretchen uses her magic in a supporting role. Players will be able to coordinate the pair's attacks by issuing mid-melee commands to Gretchen, as well as executing finishing moves. While Heinrich is invincible, players will need to protect the vulnerable Gretchen if they want to make it far.

Bamco should just localize Tales games instead of waisting money on games like this and splatter house.
@MrSelf-Destruct - couldn't have put it better myself, though I'd also tell them to go look at Sony Santa Monica too :)
"stylized and over-the-top action" I don't think so. Not according to that gameplay video. You may need to consult with Platinum for a better understanding of that phrase.
Only thing i have to say to the other gamers wanting Namco to localize the other tales games is i highly doubt they will. I'm a fan of the games myself (Vesperia and Symphonia being my two favorites) since the Tales games are probably more popular in japan then they are in the US. (heck they even have Tales animated tv series in japan). But if they do release the other games here in the us i''d buy and play them. but i'm not gonna get my hopes up until Namco breaks down and decides to do so.
I sure do miss the days when Namco localized Tales games for North America instead of shoveling this garbage. Don't they understand we don't want their "Gears of war" type games like this and Quantum theory. Even Enslaved and Vanquish didn't sell well here. Just stop with WESTERNIZING games and localize the tales series because we don't need more short COD first person shooters or short Gears of war games.
Darkriders 1.5 indeed. 30 seconds into the video all you hear is "Can you handle this? ALRIGHT, that was the high point of the whole trailer ..xD.
Another 'hack & slash' that's similar to God of War. It's alright, but nothing special to me. I can do without it.
meh maybe i would have thouh about buying if it would have been from another compagny but since it's from Namco i don't feel like it.Once they bring back tales here i will think about buying more game from Namco.
Kinda looks like Darksiders 1.5 And I think Kashiwaba might be a little jaded with FPS's. What's the matter, don't have the motor skills to compete online with FPS's...aww or is it motion sickness pookie? lol, simple answer sport. Don't like FPS online multiplayer? DONT PLAY THEM. Stick to Monster Hunter or get in the fetal position with a handheld tiger.
Looks interesting if the game is really good I don't mind paying 60 bucks to get it I'd rather pay 60 bucks for a game with great single player rather than a stupid FPS game with online mode.
This game is KILLER! Looks great! Best boss fights since GoW, Bayonetta, Darksiders & Dante's Inferno. I'm going to get this!
This game is a big ? Mark. Video reminds me of GOW a little. Throw in a little magic and its another hack and slash game.
We all know this game is going to be mediocre, at best. IMO it's not even worth it. When will people understand that they're only enabling these developers to make shorter and shorter action games and selling them at full retail price when they're worth about half that?
this video doesn't really show off the game all that much, you think they'd try impressing potential customers with something cool to expect from the game
Single player adventure games like this should hit retail at a budget price. Usually they last you a couple of nights then gather dust because of the lack of replayability in a short story driven game.
Lol very similar to their last game. The laboring brute being controlled by the crafty female who can't fight?
I hate female dominance. Both male and female should be equaled! BTW, why didn't they localize ToV and ToG for PS3 outside Japan yet!?
If she stays with you it will be good. I hate when I am restricted to where I can go in a fight because the AI has to be protected. If they move with me it's fine, I don't want to have to move with her.
So your invincible but some women you have to protect will be your health bar? Thats uh.... interesting. I'd like to see how well that works when I see a review.
i doubt this game will even sell well... its coming out on same day as killzone 3 and bulletstorm.... thats the games that majority of gamers are waiting for..... most people wont even remember this game.......
I don't like Namco Bandai for one specific reason: they use the same formula over and over. If the game has a great story, I'll buy it. If it's all flash and no substance, I'll pass. Gameplay like that came out on last gen's consoles, it's nothing special.
I don't see anything "stylized and over-the-top" about this. But, this is being made by Game Republic, so it's at least worth keeping an eye on.
This actually looks like a cool game. However, there's no way I'm buying another game from Namco Bandai until they start localizing Tales games. Let's start with Graces F or Xillia please.
Namco's known for how they prioritizes games, one will become the major praised title's while the other just loses it.So no hope for this one!!
Okay. i'm willing to give namco the benefit of the doubt and try this game out. Though, I DETEST games where i have to protect another on screen character since the main character i'm controlling is immortal while gretchen can be killed meaning i'll have to stay near her while fighting off grotesque creatures to keep her from being slaughtered which isn't much fun lol.
protecting a character in a game is ok in moderation, re4 exploited it for sure though. but with that said i am really excited about this game, the story is gonna be fantastic.
@blogger cant agree more, that was one of the few drawbacks of RE4 as well looks standard but the story looks interesting at least
As interesting as this sounds, I'm waiting for developers to learn that protecting someone else for the entirety of a game is not entertaining.
Playing Xbox One games on somebody else's console will also require a check-in every hour. Full Story
