Hideo Kojima unveils GDC job site for upcoming Metal Gear title; site displays Big Boss; Californian development studio on the horizon.
Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima today revealed the search is on to find new development talent for the next title in the popular franchise.
The site advertises for programming, art, game design, sound, and production roles, highlighting the next Metal Gear Solid is "targeted for high-end consoles and PC" and will use the FOX Engine.
The site advertises for positions in two locations: Japan, and California, US. Kojima Productions producer Ken-ichiro Imaizumi tweeted that the company is planning to open a studio in California, "If we can find the right people."
Another part of the site links to an image of Big Boss, but reveals no further information.
Kojima has alluded to the next series in the franchise in the past, and rumors pinned Kojima's next project as powered by the FOX Engine, which was publicly shown for the first time during Konami's Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference last year.
@sirkarl1 Well i'm in a disagreement with that. I think the old formula is good and I also believe Kojima still cares. You have your opinion, I have mine. Let's leave it at that. How's Scayzie?
@supertom221 yeah i dont mind miller being in it just wanted to see more familiar faces... and no ive played snce the days of the original nitendo, and im glad the old formula for games is gone because those games had little to no story... and like i said personally to me peace walker was a week entry for the series... and rising would have been awesome but now theyve changed it. it looks crap... all im saying is it shows that he doesnt care all that much for it anymore
@sirkarl1 Wow, there, hold your horses man. Your opinion, your entitled to it, I just wanted to shed some light on the matter. And I cared about Miller.... We never learned enough about him in MGS1, I thought it would be cool... So he added a chapter. WOOOOW. Big deal. And you'd want to play a level again, because it's a classic video game formula that i'm sure anyone who played games from AT LEAST PS1/N64 era is familiar with. True, he did say that, It is kinda stupid that he keeps maknig them regardless, but that's just his imminent artist craze. You get sick of making the same stuff, you try something else, find out you still love making what you did before, you do it again. Bad marketing, maybe, but efficient. Again, your opinion, you are entitled to it. Have fun.
@supertom221 because thats somethin as a fan i wanted to see or at least hear of... and thats different, raiden has no impact of the main series at that point, however the cloning does its mentioned from mgs1 onwards and even slightly referenced on the msx game... thats why i think it would have been cool to include it... and no because you had to repeat sections over and over to finish the story... which not only makes no sence to the story but it was boring why would i wanna play the same level over and over..? plus the more advanced mg makes no sence, and peace walker literally had no story... i said pretty much no returning characters, miller is the only one you see and lets face it no one cares about him, and yes i have finished the final chapter jack@ss, yay i spend ages building a mg that i then have to kill... great didnt see that coming lol becuase he continuously states he no longer wants to do them yet he keeps churning out games with no link to the main story other than the character, but more so because of rising wat a waste... dude i dont care if its multiplatform or not most of the games i play are.
@sirkarl1 .... That's a hell lot of hating there. Yes, he did skip the cloning. Don't see what's to see there, unless you want to witness the birth process. Yup. Never mentinoned before. Why would it be? It was created AFTER the other games. It wasn't in the planning then. Was there a reference of Raiden in MG1 when you met BigBoss? No. Because Raiden wasn't an idea then. Yup. Repeating sections. It's part of the game. Not the story. And it's fun, so I don't see your point unless you are really bad at it. Though I agree PeaceWalker looked more advanced than REX, he was just bigger. The fact is Rex has much more mobility and smaller in size, as it can also be mass produced, While PeaceWalker was an experiment based on an AI designed after The Boss. No returning characters? So what do you call Miller? A goat? No bad guy? What about Zadornov? And clearly you have not finished the final chapter. Again, why is he a sellout because of ONE portable game...? Or is it because it's no longer a PS3 exclusive?
@supertom221 sorry dude but kojima has lost my faith in the series, and im not hating on peace walker to me the game sucked period... instead of including some of the stuff that was happening inn the timeline around that time like pretty much the most important point, (cloning) they decided to just make some bull up about some event that has never bin mentioned int the entire series before... not to mention pretty much no returning charaqcters, no decent plot, pretty much no badguy, having to repeat sections of the game over and over just to see the actual Fing ending and also having metal gears way more advanced than even REX way back then... makes no sence and now the icing on the cake hes decided to completely ignore wat would have bin an awesome part of the timeline to see to make a terrible looking and complete bullsh!t entry to the series which makes little sence and looks dog poo... thats the reason why im losing faith in the guy cause hes now just a sellout purely after the money...
@sirkarl1 Can't believe you are saying that about Metal Gear, man.... Don't compare Kojima with the likes of EA and Activision dude. And Peace Walker was amazing, stop hating for no reason.
@supertom221 yeah but its another crap story about bigboss, snake eater was enough, that game was brilliant but peace walker was dog poo dude... the raiden original game look amazing this one looks pathetic, and im pretty sure its not cannon tommy... and hes totally milking it, why else would there still be more games and games that have pretty much nothin to do with the plot like peace walker, he keeps saying how he doesnt want to make em anymore yet keeps throwing more crap out...
I don't care. I'm not believing REvengeance is canon. I'm going to pretend it doesn't exist just like I did with devilmaycry 2.
@sirkarl1 it is canon, Kojima's writers said so and he approved as well. He isn't milking at all. He is just experimenting. On our expense, yes, but we don't own his IP, only copies. He can do whatever the f*** he likes with MGS. Kojima won'y betray his fans so easily, this article is proof to that. If he was milking us, you'd expect a half made game completed by half-made DLCs.
@supertom221 u sure its cannon im pretty sure its not dude... would make no sence why would raiden be a cyborg again when he just got his body back...? but yeah personally i dont think they could make the game on the trailer good, especially being made by the people who made vanquish... the 2010 trailer where it was set between 2 and 4 looked amazing and made sence... its really starting to show that kojima just doesnt give a crap about the series now and hes just milking the cash cow
Solid Snake MUST kill Big Boss in this one! At least I hope we see that part of the story soon enough.
This is going to be amazing. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard to work on the soundtrack for this game, and it'd be cool to see more Naked Snake CQC, reminiscent of the final battle cut-scene in MGS4. Like in The Dark Knight, I'm really interested in Batman's Keysi fighting style, it'd be nice to have more CQC. Random requests, I know, but still.
Hopefully this is a ploy by Kojima and in actual fact the game is already done and will be out next week... I can only hope!!!!
@sirkarl1 STOP. Calling me that. Actually it is set in the timeline. It's after MGS4. Yeah, I know, major buttf*** for MGS fans everywhere. It might turn out to be good, what we saw was just the alpha version. it still has to go through Beta and major patching before it's anywhere close to going gold.
@supertom221 yep and its not set in the timeline is it..? which is crap, definately not getting that pile of crap, its annoying the old version looked so much better... and yeah long time no see dude, hows old tommy tank these days...?
@heroesfan261: No Peace Walker is set 4 years after Portable Ops so its probably set after the idea of creating Outer heaven or already created and not the OH from PW
@Marscaleb well at least it was a good port to many times do u hear about Console games ported to PC sucking at least it was good
@NeutralFan I don't know ppl have told me the original Metal Gear was on the PC but I don't know about Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance although I do know it was on the original Xbox as that is the console I had it for.
@Marky360 Wasn't MGS2 Substance released on PC as well as XBox and PS2? Could be wrong, but I'm sure that rings a bell.
@Marky360 Well they did that much, yes. It was amusing actually, if you call Campbell he tells you to plug the controller into port 2, but the text says to use the keyboard instead of a joystick. Kinda amusing actually. But that being said, if you were playing with the keyboard the whole game, then you aren't changing anything. You go into the battle without knowing anything is different. I can't remember but I think they cut out the "Hideo" as well. Other than that a fantastic port! Way better than than "Twin Snakes" garbage.
@Marscaleb Well I guess thats to be expected with the psycho Mantis scene but u think they would have changed that part to utilise mouse and Keyboard but at least it good to kno PC was able to handle the rest of the game just fine though.
I would love to be a part of the creative writing team. I love the wild storylines in this series. MGS rocks my socks off.
Ah man, I looked at the positions and I so want to apply! But to apply I have to do that at GDC, and I can't afford to drive out to California AND pay an entrance fee. Not to mention my level-design portfolio is still too poor. Dang it it is so not fair; I don't have the time to build anything that shows off my skill because I'm an adult and have responsibilities, and the stuff I built when I was a student is out of date (and the good stuff was lost over time anyway.) I so wish I could build levels for an MGS game; the gameplay is just so boss and level design is actually important in that series because you have options!! sigh...
@Marky360 The first MGS on PC was very good as far as ports go, but it naturally suffers in the Mantis scene since the PC doesn't have a memory card, controller rumble, or second player port. MGS2 on the PC had some issues with a few graphics cards, but otherwise ran just like the console.
@heroesfan261 hey thanx for the heads up dude I never knew there was a PC version of any Metal Gear. Do u know if it was a good port or did suffer from problems in the transfer from console to PC.
@marky360 The original Metal Gear Solid was also ported to pc but the fact that Kojima himself is developing an MGS game tailored to both consoles and high-end pc's makes me jump for joy. Although I do kind of feel they are milking MGS a bit too much.
I like Big Boss, don't get me wrong. But I really want to know what happened after MGS4. Not before. I want the real MGS5. But who am I kidding? I am going to get this game and love it.
Honestly this has got to be the best news I've heard all day I absolutely love Metal Gear Solid 4 it may be one of the best games this gen so another Metal Gear I'm all for it. On a side note I'm surprised the article also mentions PC as a platform I don't think Metal Gear as ever made an appearance on PC at least not to my knowledge.
Well I can't wait to see what this fox engine will give to the MGS series. I hope for the best. After all Kojima won't ruin his best series.
Well, we know Big Boss fought in the Mozambican Civil War in the 80s, where he once again found Gray Fox... after that, there's very little information about what he did before taking command of FOXHOUND in the early 90s. And that's pretty much the only gap left in his story (minus his early years with The Boss), so that's the only lead I got.
@garysingh34 That's what made it so genius. haha Snake was a total bad-ass in MGS 1 and 2, then gets it all stripped away from him in one game.
Since Kojima productions now have an proper engine to work on i'm assuming this won't take another 5 years to develop, hopefully.
