Kojima: Snake's grey hair 'due to lighting effect'

Following fan reaction to Snake's grey hair in the Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes PAX demo, director Hideo Kojima clarifies it is due to a lighting effect.
Konami's Metal Gear franchise is firing on all cylinders at the moment. Developer Platinum Games' Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance isn't due out until February 2013, but that didn't stop publisher Konami announcing another game in the series, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, at PAX last week.
As part of the announcement, it was confirmed that Naked Snake would be returning as the game's protagonist. The fan reaction, at least on Twitter, was that Snake's grey hair made him look rather old. On his English Twitter feed, director Hideo Kojima responded: "Saw many tweet about Snake in grey hair after taking off the goggle. This is due to the rim-lighting.” He also posted an image of Snake with a darker-looking beard than the one featured in the video.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is a more open-world take on the series' trademark stealth-action. The game is set for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, though no release date has been confirmed at this stage.

1 Like I still for the life of me, can't figure out how fans confused, who was obviously Big Boss in the trailer, with Solid Snake.
1 Like @mr_england Bad Japanese to English translations are what give us great names like "Donkey Kong" and great quotations like "All your base..." I don't speak Japanese, but I'm sure those game titles sound awesome in their native language.
@theKSMM @mr_england about Revengeance , I believe it was explained when Rising was rebooted by Platnium that , it is re- vengeance done by kojima production on the thier failed project metal Gear Solid : Rising
Looking at the picture, it's not just the hair, he's looking somewhat... Wrinkly there. Eh, all in due time.
also that was demo on pc with far better specs then then 360-ps3 there is no way either those 2 system will be able to pull off what we seen in that trailer
@tsunami2311 That was like 30 or 40 some odd years after Snake Eater. He was bound to get some grays in eventually.
If you played Peace Walker, you'd notice this game is a sequel to that, maybe?
Kojima's messing with us....I have a feeling, he loves to toy with his fans. I bet there is more to meet the eye on this "Snake".

@Hellhound30x @SolidTy It has to be given that Paz and Chico (I think that was his name) are the prime objectives of that mission.
1 Like After watching the gameplay trailer thingy on gametrailers, I was blown away by the visuals and effects. Next gen consoles can bugger off if current gen are capable of this.
I can't wait to see more of this game Metal Gear Solid 4 was phenomenal and this looks as though it will follow suit I just hope Kojima son doesn't have to making any limiting adjustments because of the game being multiplatform
Also: This was an issue that needed clarification? Really? The fact that an old-looking mans grey hair was only grey because of lighting. SMH
2 Like @brain20035 Yeah, thats great and all, but how many disc's will it be on? MGS 4 was almost 50 gbs on a dual layered blu ray disc...

Uhhh isn't he supposed to be old though? Even in the trailer, the guy who snake is communicating with says "age hasn't slowed you down a bit eh Snake?" or something along the lines of that if I remember.
@Vickman178 I think it was also supposed to knock at how long it's been since Big Boss was on a solid console (not including the HD remake)

Even without the grey hair he looks pretty old... Having not played the games though I just assumed he was old in the last game anyway.
Big Boss (this Snake) was 39 in Peace Walker, and will probably be about 41 or 42 in Ground Zeroes. Bit early to be going grey, even with the stress of fighting off nuclear-equipped walking battle tanks. Solid Snake was already 37 or so by the end of MGS2, with accelerated aging on top of that, and wasn't slightly grey.
I'm very glad the rumors weren't true, that this game would be Metal Gear Solid 5. While I do think they're starting to drag out the franchise, the game looks fantastic. Might be a day 1 purchase once I hear more information.
5 Like @Legendaryscmt No offence but with a story like Metal Gear Solid with everything that's involved with it it's extremely difficult if not impossible to drag out the story or franchise considering there's so much left to be told.
