L4D is one of those gaming buses I missed while it was hot...i regret it now. I finally picked up a copy...I had one friend that still had it, but it was no fun because I was the only one enjoying a new experience.
Left 4 Dead series sales hit 12 million

Valve writer confirms zombie shooter series sales across first and second installment; Left 4 Dead 3 possible for "sometime down the road."
The Left 4 Dead series has infected more than 12 million gamers, according to Valve writer Chet Faliszek, and a third installment may be on the way. Speaking to VG247, Faliszek elaborated on Valve's marketing strategy, saying with the rise of the Internet, the rules have changed.
"Telling people a game is great will sell one extra copy. Letting people play the game--Left 4 Dead is a good example--is much better," he said. "All of our pre-release stuff is designed to just let people play it."
"We just let the game speak for itself because the Internet has made this thing where you can’t pull the wool over people’s eyes any more," Faliszek added. "They’re going to know you’re hyping."
In a separate interview with Eurogamer, Faliszek said Left 4 Dead 3 is possible, but is not planned until "sometime down the road." He further tempered that comment by adding he feels that way about every Valve game, meaning it's "not a promise of when or where."
The original Left 4 Dead launched in 2008, with a sequel spawning just a year later. A Linux version of Left 4 Dead 2 is in the works, but it does not yet have a release date.

At least we have mods like DayZ and games like ZombieU (which should go multi because I am not getting a Wii U) which simulate a real zombie out brake survival.
L4D 3 will never happen at least not in out life time or our kids life time or our kids's kids lol. Lets just continue to play L4D 1 and 2 and call it a day.
@HonorOfGod we'll probably see a L4D3 with the next gen, Valve is developing the new engine and HL3 will probably be the tech demo, just like HL2 was the tech demo for Source. It takes time...

The funny thing is, HL3 will probably come out on the consoles 1st...while the PC gamers have to wait. That would truly be poetic justice for the PC elitists ;p

1 Like Good games. You have to bear in mind though that both of them have been on steamsales multiple times for like under $5.
Its a great series. I find though that the tight 70 degree or so viewing angle makes me sick when I spin to look around etc, made worse when things run past quickly and I try to follow by turning my character. Still I try not to puke.
I would assume that's just to enhance the claustrophobic horror feel of the games? I never noticed the viewing angle before.
It'll be cool if Valve can make a 4-player offline split screen L4D on PS3 and 360, I haven't played 4-player offline split screen for a while, recently with Minecraft on 360. Geez, my friends are complaining about accidently falling down on a sky island.
not big fan of Valve games,, (Half-life is exception.)
I like Valve just for the Steam platform and upcoming Big Picture mode.
@Ladiesman17 You should check the Portal series out. It's a lot like Half Life , except funnier and more focus on puzzles.
@senor305 I got L4D 1 & 2 for about that price in a bundle. I'd have rather set fire to the money now I know what the games are like.
I never liked the left 4 dead games they gave me motion sickness and the graphics are kind of bad :( I know graphics dont make a game good but I like my games to look good and to not give me motion sickness
1 Like @killlo l4d graphics are awesome. i have not had motion sickness since the 32 bit era. no actually blue stinger on dreamcast was the last time i got that.

@LonelyHippie27 They didn't just "make" 12 million, assuming you mean $12 million buy your prices comments. They sold 12 million copies. They wouldn't be selling a lot of copies today if they didn't have sales for as low as $5 like Toysoldier34 mentioned.

Valve, bossing everyone else, as usual. When you spend your time listening to fans we won't even mind the long years of delay for your most anticipated titles. Because we know it's gonna be worth it.

Falizek is like: we're not planning to make a new Left 4 Dead right now (cause we need to finish Half Life 3!).
No surprise there! Best Zombie FPS of all time! And if you really want to see it shine, play it on a Super PC in 3D and be amazed at the graphics.
I still think it's incredibly shady to sell both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 at the same price point(PC of course, I have no idea about consoles) when Left 4 Dead 2 literally has EVERYTHING that the first game has, and more.
@jinzo9988 The prices for the 360 version is like a yoyo with the price for one and two for a month L4D 14.99 used and 19.99 new and the same for L4D 2 and that one sometimes goes new or used 29.99.
cool it actually did good on the xbox about 6mill
but since steam sells it for about 5.00 bucks sometimes it should be bought by every person who ever lived cause its amazing
I think the sequel came out WAY too soon. I love the first L4D and was quite confused onto why they would release a sequel just 1 year after the first game. There wasn't that much difference between the two. You get 4 new cast members, guns, and enemies. Overall I felt the 2nd game could have been a DLC since there wasn't much of an improvement.

Though that begs the question of what a true sequel would need to not feel like "a DLC"(what my generation used to call expansion packs) and to feel like a sequel. Adding a whole new series of campaigns in new locales(including shifting to daytime for most of them, contrasting L4D's nighttime settings), a new cast plus new weapons, a new weapon mechanic(melee weapons), and of course new Special Infected types. To beat that you'd have to basically reinvent the wheel and radically design what the definition of "Left 4 Dead" is.
So I do wonder what you'd need to make a true L4D sequel since L4D2's many changes only felt like "a DLC".
