i wonder if Capcom realizes the first Lost Planet was only successful because of the lack of games early in the generation...
Lost Planet spin-off hitting PS3, 3DS

Capcom taps Monster Hunter producer to lead development on beginner-friendly shooter EX Troopers for Sony's console and Nintendo's portable.
Capcom will launch a Lost Planet spin-off title for the PlayStation 3 and 3DS called EX Troopers, according to the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (translated by Andriasang). Development on the game will be led by Monster Hunter series producer Shintaro Kojima.
According to the report, EX Troopers will take place in the same world as Lost Planet, but that will be the only main similarity to the series. EX Troopers will sport an anime visual style and will tell a "school-themed story," says the magazine.
More specifically, EX Troopers will recount a battle between snow pirates and the indigenous Akrid aliens on the planet EDN-3rd. Gamers will suit up as Bren Turner and will be introduced to female snow pirate TeeKee, who has the power to communicate with the Akrid.
Kojima explained that EX Troopers was designed with the intent to be a beginner's action shooter, but did not offer more details. The game is reportedly 60 percent complete and is due to ship later this year, ahead of 2013's Lost Planet 3. That game is a prequel to the original Lost Planet and is currently in development at Spark Unlimited.

Don't care much for either game really. LP2 was horrible. Only the first game was any good and it was exclusive on 360 for a long time. I'll wait and see how well these games are reviewed before even thinking about reaching for my wallet.
So, I, who am a fan of the series which started on the 360, still own the limited edition AND colony edition of the first game, won't be able to play it ?Let the middle fingers raise
Would had been great if it's on Vita as well. I mean c'mon Capcom give us cross play with this game.
Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions is an OK game....Lost Planet 2 does not thrilled me either. Botton line is I'm not excited about it.
@oldschoolvandal When it came out the first lost planet was a great game, also one of the first japanese shooters with online on the 360, also in the colony edition of the game there was an online mode were players could be the giant badass monsters and play against other human players. The 2nd one really sucks though, not the general idea, but they just killed and screwed up the gameplay so really bad.
I will stay away from this afetr playing Lost Planet 2. Untill this gets released and proves to be actually good, it will be crap. That's how bad Lost Planet 2 was, and I had big hopes for that game.

Haven't shooters become somewhat beginner-friendly already? I'm getting bored of linear, hand-holding gameplay. I want a trend towards higher degrees of difficulty, am I alone in this?
1 Like I think the reasoning behind the weird console choices are the sales in Japan for those systems. If I'm not mistaken, the PS3 is at the top as far as consoles go right now, and the 3DS is a really big seller there too. Other consoles like the Vita or Wii haven't been pulling that many big numbers lately, so I guess Capcom was going for the consoles that were popular in Japan while they're making this game.
That might actually be a good sign as far as the game's quality goes...
@Iridescent406 Honestly, given the choices, it could be a Japan only release. Lost Planet isn't important enough for Sony to try getting it exclusively, and releasing it in the West but ignoring the 360 means losing half your potential sales.

@Iridescent406 Also, Capcom has its own, cross-platform game engine, so its not like they couldn't do it on the 360 (or PC). It seems more like they don't want to. Could be wrong, of course. Makes me wonder how Japanese sales compared to Western sales...
dammit... why is the monster hunter series producer making a non-monster hunter game! come one man! i want my monster hunter on the PS3 dude. please... japan got the mh3 HD edition. why cant the rest of the world get one!

Weird combination but still glad that it's hitting the 3DS.
despite popular belief vita is not doing duper well in the west neither( 3ds was doing better on the west when it was doing "terrible" last year according to press if thats any indication). And it is just doing horribly in Japan ,end of story.
So PS3 as console is logical and for a portable choice, 3ds is also a no brainer.It might not come outside Japan which makes this even more obvious and both support properly 3d. Not hard to figure out.
1 Like Guys, when I saw Kojima's name in the article I thought, "Hey, this could be great!" But then I saw the words "In development at Spark Unlimited."
Needless to say, this is a no go for me. These are the same guys who brought us such excellent games like Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Legendary, and last and least, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.
o.o Beginner-style..? Uh... I assume it's going to be lacking more than just gore. Still keeping an eye on this one though.
i'm glad to see the 3DS get some titles (or at least considered titles) but i don't understand why they leave the Vita behind... must be the poor sales in Japan or something

Who knew there'd be a second Kojima out there? Very cool. The sound of this game has me intrigued. I'm eager to learn more.

5 Like Just give us a version of Monster Hunter on any format, even a new one and I will buy it to play the game on day one with the game, just like PSP and Wii. Just do it Capcom, you are letting us long term hunters down pretty bad by not announcing something for us.
1 Like @azumabob Monster Hunter Tri G is rumored to be coming this summer in europe so its possible it will be out before october this year in the states the rumors say.......but again theres no concrete word on it
I really hope they do bring MH Tri 3G to the west, I want to believe a new Monster Hunter will see western shores soon!
