I could swear that before the release of Batman AA Hamil said he was done playing the Joker. Guess the success of AA changed his mind.
Voice actors bring the Joker, Batman to life in Sony Online Entertainment's upcoming superhero MMORPG; additional voice actors include Adam Baldwin, Gina Torres, James Marsters, and Michelle Forbes.
Despite laying off 4 percent of its staff recently, Sony Online Entertainment has kicked off the beta registration for its upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game, DC Universe Online. In addition to providing gamers with an avenue to an exclusive first look into the game, the publisher today announced a star-studded cast of voice actors for the MMORPG, which includes Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, who will bring two of the game's most prominent characters to life.
Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Batman: Arkham Asylum) will bring the voice of Batman to life in the upcoming PC and PlayStation 3 title, and Mark Hamill (Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: The Animated Series) will enunciate the Joker's shrill laugh.
The rest of the voice cast is fairly prominent as well. Adam Baldwin (Dutch from Halo 3: ODST, Firefly) will voice Superman; former Firefly star Gina Torres will voice Wonder Woman; James Marsters of Smallville, Buffy, and Torchwood will bring life to Lex Luthor; and Michelle Forbes (Dr. Mossman in Half-Life 2) will create Wonder Woman's adversary, Circe.
Set within the DC Comics world, DC Universe Online will let players create a superhero or villain and fight alongside or against iconic comic book characters, such as the Joker, Batman, Superman, and others.
DC Universe Online is currently scheduled for release on November 2 for the PS3 and PC. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's most recent preview.
AARGH! Just when you think you've finally got Firefly out of your system someone reminds you of it again! Curse TV executives unto the very flaming pit of Tartarus itself for its cancellation! In other news- good voice cast :)
Kevin Conroy is the one true Batman voice. Mark Hamill is Joker. Even when he voiced Fire Lord Ozai in the Avatar cartoon, I couldn't get Joker out of my head. He might as well do the role of Joker until he can't talk anymore.
Awesome news!!! I've been watching this game for a while now and at first I wasn't sure about it but it continues to look better and better everytime I see something new on it. On top of it all they got the best voice actors out there. Oh yeah, I'm pumped!!!
@Sparticus1013 You're not dreaming that up, Sparticus. Most likely the payday for this one was too good to pass it up. I mean, if they're willing to say triple your usual fee.. Well, you'd be crazy not to do it. Do find it a bit a pity, that they couldn't get the rest of the JLA animated crew together to do the rest of the VA work. So either Tim Daly or George Newbern for the Big Boyscout, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Clancy Brown as Lex, although Michael Rosenbaum could work too. And just have Rachel York do Circe again. And one could always have David Boreanaz do Hal Jordan again, he did it for JL: The New Frontier as well, and except for a few spots, nailed that home pretty convincingly (being in the presence of folks who are considered the definitive voice of their characters might help raise him to the next level). Or if they're going with John Stewart than Phil LaMarr would work too.
Nice!!!!, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are the best Batman and Joker imo.... sure I watched Batman the Animated series as a kid and own all the dvd's now as a adult but they are my favourites so I might even be tempted to check this out.
I can't picture anyone else doing voice overs for Batman or Joker. I watched Batman: under the red hood and the guy who played Joker there was almost painful to listen to.
They left out Adam Baldwin's most important credit! He's in Chuck, being awesome! Game's gonna be great.
Why change the voice actors when Conroy and Hamil have proven to be so darn good? That Batman cartoon? Excellent. I loved watching it. Arkham Asylum? Just shy of a masterpiece, but easily a classic. Why would you mess with that? Still gonna get owned by WoW though. Seriously, it's just another MMORPG.
"Interestingly enough, his brother William also voiced Batman in Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Maybe the Baldwin family is a bunch of comic book nerds like the rest of us..." Adam Baldwin not part of the Baldwins brother gang.
I liked Adams voice as Superman in Superman:Doomsday but why couldnt they get Tim Daly for Superman?
Wait, didn't Hamill say a couple months back that Arkham 2 would be his last Joker role? Or am I hallucinating and making up video game articles in my head again?
Interestingly enough, his brother William also voiced Batman in Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Maybe the Baldwin family is a bunch of comic book nerds like the rest of us...
Im not a DC Comics fan but im a huge Batman fan & point blank period Conroy & Hamill r Batman & Joker!!! Any1 else is straight up BS!!!
If there is any Joker that stand taller than Heath Ledger's, it is Hamill's. He made Batman:AA worth playing again and again.
its so awesome that they are still getting Mark Hamill to do the voice of the joker, to me he will always be the voice behind the clown prince of crime
FINALLY! Thank goodness D.C. is doing a good job. Unlike that other comic book universe Marve.... er Champion's Online :-P You had me at Mark Hamill. His laugh ... wow.
I really hope they get more of the voice actors from the DCAU. I'm really hoping that they'd get Clancy Brown to play Lex Luthor and Michael Ironside to play Darkseid.
Good choice in sticking with Kevin Conroy and not that guy who did that god awful batman VO in the justice league game.
