Free add-on for sci-fi shooter launches next week with new maps, weapons, unlockable characters, and more.
While Mass Effect 3 fans need to wait a while longer for new endgame downloadable content, BioWare is offering a free multiplayer add-on to keep them busy in the meantime. The publisher today announced that the Mass Effect 3: Rebellion DLC will be available beginning May 29 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
The pack includes a variety of content centered on Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode. Rebellion boasts two new maps, six unlockable characters, an added in-mission objective, an extra gear slot, and three additional weapons. The pack's existence and contents were first leaked last week by Sony's Hong Kong website.
Rebellion isn't the only Mass Effect DLC on the way. BioWare is also prepping the Mass Effect Extended Cut for release this summer. The add-on for the sci-fi role-playing game will expand on the original's controversial ending with "cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes."
been waiting all night for this one very excited about ex cerberus characters and add on ... thanks bioware... ps love original ending ...
Silly people in the comments. The multiplayer's ending is that stat screen that shows you how much money, Galactic Readiness and experience you get. I don't know where a Starchild or a Crucible factor into it at all.
To all of the "ending ruined the series" people:
It's about the journey, the ride, not the ending. The last fifteen minutes doesn't change the hours of fun you experienced while playing through the series. The ending doesn't affect how you played it, how the decisions affected the player. Whether you chose Red (the correct choice), Green, or Blue didn't change if you shot Wrex, if you lost Jack on the suicide mission, if the Geth were chosen over the Quarians.
Mass Effect was a rollercoaster, the dips and turns shaping our experience. We love that part of the ride...the thing is, no one likes the brakes. No matter what ending was provided there would be dissatisfied players. You simply don't want the ride to end sometimes.
Why is Bioware holding this press conference kissing the gamer's butts over and over? Then they use skewed data to talk about how big the game is. Well guess what Bioware, if you make the game bigger you need more people and/or better tech.
It's one giant apology and on top of that a marketing campaign in there.
Then they asked which was people's favorite game in the series and most people raised their hand for ME2. I almost threw up.
ME2 is essentially Sci-Fi CoD. ME3 at least went back a bit to its roots.
I'm glad they're so many gamers now, but sadly it has destroyed many of my favorite games. I don't even know what to look foreward to anymore, with Blizzard disappointing with D3 and SC2. Rockstar with a overpriced and dated Max Payne 3. :(
This sounds about right. Free crap for mediocre multiplayer.
I'm so over Bioware that when the ending DLC comes out I'm just going to watch it on Youtube.
Watch this and you will know http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caAqFFhBn2U
whining about A GAME THAT MOST OF U COMPLAINERS ARENT SMART ENOUGH TO PROGRAM YOUR REMOTES. DONT LIKE IT GO Back to barney you little whiners. Thanks bioware, ignore the whiny bitches
Why all the multiplayer DLC? Where's the singleplayer DLC? Bioware doesn't want to build the setpieces for an sp mission or write the dialouge because they're lazy.
I discovered the Mass Effect Universe in (18/march/2012) before that I only knew little, and I was hearing a lot about Mass Effect 3 at so I started watching a lot of trailers, and suddenly I realized that this new game is some thing I must see and play, so I downloaded Mass Effect 1, and after I played it and finished it, I was not the same afterwards, because this type of game is different, I have never played such a game in my life, and I'm a gamer, but after I finished Mass Effect 1 I just couldn't let go anymore of it, it's like the game just bewitched me, it's magic and power is overwhelming, so after Mass Effect 1 I downloaded Mass Effect 2 and then Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect 1,2, and 3 are the only games in my life that made me eyes teardrop, hell the Mass Effect Series are not just a game it's another life, and every choice that you made through Mass Effect 1 affect Mass Effect 2, and what you choose in Mass Effect 1 and 2 will affect Mas Effect 3, in Mass Effect you are living the life of Commander Shepard, it's not just an action game that you only have a mission that you must accomplish by killing the bad guys damn it, it a whole damn life, what other people experienced in 5 to 6 years of the Mass Effect Universe, I only experienced that in 2.5 month, every thing in Mass Effect is perfect and beautiful, but the ending in Mass Effect 3 was the unholy evil ending and unfair ending that made me sick and mad in all my gaming life time, I don't care about any new free multiplayer DLC, hell I need a Real True ENDING that will give me the real satisfactions that I want, I don't need a 100 free multiplayer DLC, I just want a real ending not some bullshit star child saying gay bullshit, so I just hope Bioware will just give Us a Real Ending with the extended cut rather then this bullshit ending, and I just want to know, why is the Free Extended Cut DLC will stay free until 2014? will there be a Mass Effect 4? or what? What are they Hiding from us??????
@gameremag-ana Agree. We don't want happy ending, we want ending that don't have massive plot holes. In this choice driven game it would have been great if we have an ending in which if we didn't make correct choices would result in reapers winning and cycle continuing.
Just get over it ! , it just a game and in 6 months time you'll be playing something else.I didn't think the star child was saying gay bullshit, maybe you could expand on that ?
@Growgor why don't you get over your fanboyism and realize that not everyone liked the ending. gameremag-anna was just giving his opinion and you just stomped on it. It's just a game but I sure in 6 months time you'll find something else to be obsessed with.
@Growgor @x7c8r9 The author of THAY book didn't promise diverse endings that would greatly vary depending on your decisions. ME3 did, so it's not about happy vs sad, it's about having one single ending for all players regardless of your choice (and yes, there is really one one path in the end....oh but you can change the color of the pulse!)
There is a book with a sad ending where the major character makes a unselfish sacrifice and dies for others its called the BIBLE, maybe you could have a whine about getting the sad ending changed.Since you come across a bit thick , I explain a little better. Can you see the similairity between the the 2 stories, if you chose the synergy ending where Shepard makes a unselfish sacrifice to save the galaxy. ( I'l have to concluded our conversation, you come across as stupid whining do-gooder) PS....... I'm not a regilious person.
@Growgor I already enjoy reading well written stories you should try it so you'll understand why people don't like the ending.
Maybe you should just read fairy tales and give up the games. Regardless of the 3 game saga, the ending in the great scheme of things ,just still means zip.
@GrowgorBut it was a ending to a huge three game saga so it's way more important then the half-ass ending we got and a happy ending is never "cliche".
I,m not the obsessed fanboy . I didn't write a essay on why I liked or hated the ending. It maybe dissappointing that gameremag-ana didn't get the cliche happy ending he excepted but its not the end of the world. If you like I can give it real trashing.? ( I didn't like the gay stuff either but I,m not b*tch and whining over it).I,m sure there are more important things in life to worry about than a ending for a game.
It took me forever to actually unlock the DLC characters last time. It was ridiculous. C'mon.....C'mon!
If it wasn't free I'd still buy it. Only game I would do it for since it's the only game I play and Alan Wakes American Nightmare.
Can we maybe get some single-player DLC? I know multiplayer took off, but something like Shadow Broker's great story/gameplay would be nice.
Trying to buy back some fan loyality with free maps ? Good going , hope you throw in some credits so i can get some better weapons than 1 & 2 grade I,ve now got.
That's a ridiculously clever name considering the outcry with the game's ending. Genius!
I must be the only gamer that liked the ending , but then, I'm just a crazy old guy
Only question I have is their definition of "free." Yes it may be free to download, but once you do will the characters be locked and you have to spend 'credits' and/or MS points (or whatever is the equivalent for PC/PS3) to unlock them? That is the big question.
Most likely ....YES......They got to screw the money out of you some way.
@lwe316 As OurSin said, credits are earned via completion of Multiplayer missions and you can purchase random packs with said credits to unlock new equipment/characters/customization options etc. etc. These packs can, however be purchased with Microsoft Points on Xbox, Bioware points on PC and plain old cash on the PS3. The packs range from 1 - 3 dollars and I assume make a pretty hefty revenue, seeing as how many people would rather not wait and get the new characters/weapons/equipment by purchase with credits. But again, I must stress the fact that these packs are random, so purchasing them with real money makes as much sense as buying Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, except in this case, you can't trade the ones you don't want.
@MelancholyDitz That's what I figured. Down side of that is that on the last pack it took so long to unlock all the characters that it did get a tad monotonous after a while
@lwe316 I guess you never played the multiplayer? You do have to unlock them, but you unlock them by earning the the credits through finishing missions. But they are all random so your not guaranteed to ever get them all ( i never got the asari justicar from the last one lol). But you def don't have to pay for it (you can though)
I'm seeing too few comments regarding the content of the DLC itself unlike at message boards or other sites whenever something MP-related is posted.
Anyway. I want to know what the vorcha is capable of. They have an adaptive physiology, so I want to see how this works in-game. Curious about ex-Cerberus troops too. The previous pack gave us some of the most radically powerful classes for MP. My score actually jump up to the first place whenever I play the Krogan Battlemaster. And I've heard stories about how devastating the Batarians are with their blade armor. Not to mention how the geth are now new favourites.
Oh, the next event will have Banshees popping up more often. Even when you are not fighting reapers. Have fun.
Your doing great unlocking those top characters, with those crappy ramdom packs I,ve only managed to unlock 3 and 2 a real lousy.
@syafiqjabar Yeah, I'm certainly excited to try out these new classes. And the Batarians are some of the most devastating combatants on the battlefield. Their blade armor and their Enforcement Gauntlets coupled with their insane amount of health make them Über-Tanks. Still haven't gotten the Krogan Battlemaster though, but I'm really excited to give this Ex-Cerberus Vanguard a try :D
its them trying to buy us back with free stuff. plus its not totally free-remember only the maps are given to you. you must unlock the other stuff and they think we won't spend the time earning credits and just pay them money for it-DON'T do it, play matches and earn credits to pay for it. I am just mad they aren't doing anything for the single player-they have 6 new guns and 4 new maps give us some missions
@Max42 They are going to do single-player DLC, but they've said they're going to finish the Extended Cut first.
Wait wait wait....free DLC? From EA?!
Well, someone call me some emergency services, cuz I just about had a combination of a stroke, heart attack, and somehow contracted Ulcerative Colitis.
Kinda makes you wonder who's a$$ they're kissing...
@UnwantedSpam Well... They did have another free MP DLC about a month ago. Also, I think that the reason these DLCs are free is because EA is making a large amount of revenue from the Spectre packs in Multiplayer.Which people are too impatient to unlock with in-game currency.
@MelancholyDitz Oh, they did? I must've missed that. I just found it odd that EA is giving out free DLC, because they are notorious for their greed.
