I think that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 should win the best classic game award. And Hexic 2 should win the best original game. That would be awesome.
Console maker polling Xbox Live users to elect the best downloadable 360 games of 2007; winners announced during GDC 08.
As award season continues to ramble on, a handful of top games have dominated the short lists, including Super Mario Galaxy, BioShock, and Call of Duty 4, among others. With the big-budget, high-profile games hogging the limelight, Microsoft will be calling out the best downloadable Xbox Live games this year with its inaugural Xbox Live Arcade Awards - 2007, to be awarded at the Game Developers Conference 2008 in February.
Though the finalists were selected by a panel of game-industry journalists, Microsoft is polling Xbox Live users to select the winners. Voting is currently open through Microsoft's Web site, and users will be able to cast their lots in each of the six categories until Wednesday, January 30.
Although each category is open to write-ins, top nominees include the Microsoft-sponsored student project Aegis Wing, classic board-game remakes Catan and Carcassonne from Big Huge Games and Sierra Online, respectively, as well as Backbone's Bomberman Live and Namco Bandai's Pac-Man Championship Edition. Microsoft will also be doling out awards in four additional categories: best-selling game, most played game, highest-rated game, and staff choice.

im-a-roustabout, way to call the entirety of XBL customers stupid. The older classic arcade games cost $5. There are a lot of orignally made titles on XBL that haven't been seen on other platforms.
cocomacoco, it's the same exact situation with me. I have 15 arcade titles, I bought 12 of them. ALL of them turn into trials when I'm not online. Also, when I get on GH3 or Rockband my downloaded songs AREN'T EVEN THERE, that is when I'm offline! There is def. something strange going on that needs an update. If someone knows how to fix this problem message me.
everytime when i'm offline my games go to trial, and that's really anoyying, i paid for Uno, carcassone, undertow, and then what a get offline, a trial, suit them should i!!!!!!
Hey , I know UNO wasn't really that original but c'mon, it translated really well to the console. I was actually impressed with UNO and it was funner than I thought it would be. I think its better then a few of those on that list.
Instead of messing around with stupid awards that no-one could really care less about why not fix the stupid DRM issue that makes all my arcade games when I am offline go to trial. 2 SEGA game always keep asking to be unlocked and sometimes IPS's don't always have perfect servers so they need to be turned off to be fixed thus why I would be offline. Awards yeah I'll them an award with a shiny boot where the sun don't shine.
You can write-in whatever game didn't make the list when voting ppl. I myself I had to put Worms in a number of times.
kriptonzz, Hexic 2 is an original game because... it hasn't been ported from anywhere, I guess. It's a brand new game made exclusively for Live Arcade. It's the original version of Hexic 2.
How is Hexic 2 under best original game if it's a sequel and plays like Hexic? Explain me that Microsoft.
The award should go to MS for charging such a premium for old @$$ games, and yet still getting such a high content download from customers. Hats off to you MS for charging 10 dollars for cheaply made video games! You guys realize there is a paticular website I can think of right now that lets you download emulators and you can play any of these games for FREE? right? Oh well.
mergedsalem23, there are options in each category for you to fill in your choice (select other, then type it in).
Something isnt right why is some of the best titles missing from this list street of rage, and metal of slug 3?
This might have been more interesting if they didn't have such a weird list of games. I mean, I like Golden Axe and Double Dragon a lot; but they don't compare to Streets of Rage 2. That's one of the highly praised beat em' ups and it is for a fact better than the previous two; certainly when you consider how old those games are in comparison when the genre just started.
i dont play arcades that much but i loved the fighters such as streets of rage , street fighter. im such a cheapo xD i never want to use my ms points and i only have 1450 now which i plan to save for halo or cod
Puzzle Quest and Catan were the two best for me. Catan is very addicting expecially if you have like a couple friends and you talk them into getting it.
sounds like a good idea. some of those games were awesome. i hope they start helping those devs who are making their own games. that laundry samurai game is one the best looking games i have seen so far for arcade
