Microsoft's $99 Xbox 360 hits Best Buy, GameStop

The same people who abuse credit cards will buy this.  Probably on their credit cards.

Someone would have to be incredibly unintelligent to purchase this... so most likely it'll sell pretty well. 

Um.... one year is 60 bucks, or 50 if you can catch it on sale.... this sounds like a big old scam.

Well, some people cannot pay $420 up front so they would gladly pay $99, then $15 and end up paying an extra $40 in the end. It is like a 2 year loan where Microsoft is making 11.5% interest. So what, buy what suits your fancy and economic situation.

It was too good to be true.

I love how people scream "This is a Scam".  How many of you have a Cell Phone that you got for $99 or more with a 2 year contract?  Add up how much YOU pay per month to your Cell Phone Provider and tell me your phone was worth that much!  iPhone=$199, Service=$60/month, Total=$1639.  And yes, I do have a Cell Phone on a 2-year commitment and that is why I say it is not a bad deal.

It seems to be a good deal, overall. I just hope that there are more concessions to similar deals that I am sure will be offered for future consoles.

I don't see it as a good deal no matter how you add it up. You end up paying more money in the long run.

Save up and purchase the console new, it's worth it for warranty alone. 

Microsoft hopefully will have a similar offer when Xbox 720 debuts in 2013. Then the 2 year Xbox live contract for a reduced up front fee for Xbox 3. Which is going to cost $500.00 which MS can get away with. And in a difficult economy such a offer would help the Xbox 720 install base.

I just hope that Microsoft is not using the $99.99 Xbox 360 subscription as a experiment test run. Since 2005 MS has sold 67 Million consoles, So other than people who are very,very late to Xbox 360. I cannot see the $99.99 subscription deal really taking off. Since most people who want Xbox 360 by now have one.

If they use this idea in 2013 with Durango/Pulse/720 and with Smartglass MS surface tablet. That would be a great. I would sign on even though contracts are not the greatest.

Umm...just buy a PS3 and play online for free.

I'm buying a PS3 only because I don't do business with scammers.

i am a PC gamer not console, well XBOX ain't got that much exclusive titles like PS3 got, if it was PS3 i would have buy it in blink of an eye but i don't want 360, but for people who want console game & can't afford payin too much its best thing to go for , but for me. i can spend more, but don't want a 360  

Microsoft still sells a 4gb console? Seriously? This reminds of the days when hard drives didn't come standard with the 360 and you had to get memory units.

It's 2012 Microsoft, 60gb should be a minimum for console gaming.

Have fun suckers. When the next generation comes out, you'll still be stuck with that 360.

Why are people freaking out? Its like rent to own in a sense, not in others. I don't see why its a big deal.

I wish stores would refuse to sell this blatant ripoff. Any gamer that would know about this wouldn't even waste money on this.

I may do it. I don't really need the big hard drive since I'm unlikely to be playing much more than 360 exclusives like Gears and I'd get a Live account anyway. There are too many things going on in my life to drop $300 or even $200 on a console, but $100 and the Live subscription is something that might actually work for me. Plus, with Gamestop I could trade older games towards the cost of the system and spend next to nothing up front. 

When do you sign the contract?

What's stopping somebody from paying $99 in cash and walking away with the system?

Just curious but how is MS making consumers pay for this XBL service? Are they billing you monthly or is it up front?

I still don't see how some people can think this is a good deal? Just because some people can't afford the initial cost of the system up front doesn't make it a good.

Get a credit card, even if your just starting out most first time credit cards have enough of a limit to buy the system and an XBL subscription. Monthly payments would most likely be cheaper than getting this deal as well. And before anyone goes and says people with bad credit would benefit from this kind of deal, first off if you have bad credit how can you even afford a 360 in the first place, and even if you have bad credit why would MS even approve you for this offer if they have to run a credit check?

You can get the same thing for 180 dollars on eBay. That's 80 dollars more...just save money. 

If you enjoy monthly payments on old tech go for it.

I smell a bad deal. Don't let the $99 up-front trick you. The mandatory Xbox Live subscription is what's going to eat your wallet.

It's like a bad phone plan that you can't get out of.

What they didn't mention was that you'll have to buy yourself a new 360 in a month when you run out of drive space.

Microsoft... we do NOT have the word SUCKER stamped on our foreheads. It is not a deal and if anyone believes it is you need to stop and think. How are they going to lock you into a 2 year overpriced XBL with this machine. What happens if the 720 comes out next year? WHOOPS. Now you are in a fix for real.

So does this mean the next Xbox console won't be released for at least another two years?  Because this would seem like a strange offer if the replacement for the 360 came out in the middle of a bunch of people's contracts for it, at least for the people that signed up for contracts when it was first offered.

Just hurry up and lower the price of the 250GB 360 Slim to $199. That's all anyone cares about anyways. Who cares about the 4GB XBox 360? They should just sell it for $129 and call it a day.

im reading some posts, how the hell is it not good for gamers. 15 dollars a month is nothing for some1 that has a job. its true that u can pay 420 upfront to get it but 460 plan for 2 year will feel cheaper for people that has jobs.
