More Dragon's Dogma content teased

Game director Hideaki Itsuno says "it would be best if you held on to the game for a bit," hints at full sequel.

More content for Capcom's action role-playing game Dragon's Dogma appears to be in the development pipeline. Game director Hideaki Itsuno told 4Gamer (translated by Andriasang), that Capcom isn't yet finished adding to the game, which was released to a warm critical reception in May.

"I'm sure many have already cleared the game, but for Dragon's Dogma, we're continuing to prepare new play elements," he said. "It would be best if you held on to the game for a bit."

There is already a host of downloadable content available for Dragon's Dogma. Currently available add-ons include seven $1 "From a Different Sky" quests, as well as weapon, armor, and other character customization packs, selling for $2-$3 each.

Itsuno also spoke about the game's commercial success, calling Japanese reaction to Dragon's Dogma "better than expected." Last month, Capcom announced the game had shipped 1 million copies and said it plans to spin the fiction into a franchise, a point Itsuno also spoke to.

The developer teased a potential sequel, saying he would be happy to build "the next title," and will do so with enough fan support. For more on Dragon's Dogma, check out GameSpot's review.

well I have been playing this game for a few hours by now(like level 15+) and I got to say it is a really good game ,better than I expected, though they launched it a bit expensive in my country and it doesn't fare like witcher or skyrim but it introduces new and pleasant elements on it s own right. nothing worthwhile is coming out right now and this is definitely the best "new " game, so I guess I am going to have a blast with this one. shall I say even better than dragon age 2?

the online system is a nice spin, with trading the pawns and online saves and facebook integration , even the title music is very nice though I did not think it was in the right place at first.

now what do I want from this................only ne thing....ONLINE CO-OP!!

some1 please take over my party members 4 real!

I'd be disapointed if there wasn't any TES sized DLC for this game. When you look at the map, it's a huge island and the explorable area is a one eight area crammed into the south east coast!

just played the demo besides a few technical issues the game is awesome. if improved upon this game could be the nu standard for rpgs to beat.

DD isn't a perfect game, but I absolutely love it. Here's hoping Capcom will take into consideration all the fan feedbacks for the future sequel... minus the DLCs, of course.

Loved this game , played it for more than 200 hours.

But then again... i think Capcom will ruin "Dragon's Dogma 2" trying to improve it , just like bioware did with Dragon Age 2.

I'm really enjoying Dragons Dogma at the momment but i will admit that all the DLC and the DLC related in game messages piss me off. It still seems so tacky to remove items from a game just to sell it on later. I will wait and see if Dragons Dogma 2 hits the shelves completed before buying it i think.  That said; Dragons Dogma is amazing and there is deffinately scope for a strong franchise.

@gizzy82 I agree. The 1$ DLC quests are an obvious attempt to get as much money as possible - I mean really, a dollar..

gizzy82

@Noformation Can't quite tell if you're being sarcastic or not lol. On xbl the minimum amount of points you can buy is 500 i think which costs 6 euro where i am so regardless of what you spend the points on you have already paid your money. If you were being sarcastic then just do the math, $7(current euro to dollar conversion) from say 50% of the people who own the game adds up to quite alot. Perhaps i am over reacting but the nature of DLC currently annoys me. I am all for spending money on good quality new content for my game but i can't abide microtransactions for content that was cut from the game which is what i think we are seeing in the case of DD and many other games.

I hope they add more boss fights because let's face it, the best thing about this game is the combat and it sucks that only few quests have you fight giant bosses...

Also better DLC items wouldn't hurt, the current ones are a waste of money.

I've been pretty disappointed with the DLC so far.  Why would I want 100 "find tiny item on the roof" quests?  I had fun with the combat and I liked the world exploration, especially all the hidden treasure and huge monsters.

The inventory and menu system are extremely clunky, and I found I was spending a Skyrim-like amount of time managing it.  If they clean this up and improve the boring story and cutscenes, I'd be interested in a sequel.

and I just traded this in.... lol, I'll just rebuy it when all the good DLC releases, or just wait for Dragon's Dogma 2

If you were talking about any other Capcom game then you would get people to agree with you Gelugon_baat. But you wont find fans of this particular Capcom game back you up here much. This game gives more even without DLC than most other current gen games in regards to scope and gameplay. Credit where credit is due.

This game was made with oldschool sensibilities. You know before huge publishing houses milking series and back when a game designing company poured thier hearts and souls into a project (like the pre Square-Enix Final Fantasy games - FF1 - FF9) You can tell this game was made by people with this mindset.

@skindizer i agree. My opinion is, i enjoy DLC when they add to my alreadyt owned game. i don't care if i have t opay for them, "although some dlc for certain games i think is a lil over-priced." but this is how i see it ... Used to be u had a game an that was all there is to it. now adays its like a tv series. u can either just have season 1 (the intial game) an call it good. Or you can keep hoping they don't give up an cancel the show, an if they keep producing more episodes, you can choose to keep collecting, seeing the simple start grow into something vast. I grew up playing Commadore 64, an table Tennis, trust me pay a bunch of money for table tennis ... a game with 2 sliding bars an 1 awkward "ball" that u bounce back an forth.... over, an over, .. an over ... so im glad to have a game that keeps coming out with new stuff. (street fighter x tekken ..? eh, a lil aggrivated with, but mainly just think they need to lower the price of their dlc'd. the character unlock on the 31st should be only 800 "$10" imo. we'll see.

@Banefire76 The other thing regarding DLC - at least in my opinion - is that if a developer really puts a lot into a game such as with Dragon's Dogma (I completely agree with you that it delivers an awesome, complete story) then DLC is just an added bonus and also a way to further support your appreciation of the game and the developer. I actually don't mind that some DLC might not be that interesting (not so in the case of Dragon's Dogma) but I'm quite happy to get it anyway because i want to support the game and hopefully see a sequel. I think the Different Sky quests are an enjoyable diversion anyway lol... but in any case there's always a bit of moaning from someone or other. Just think only a few years ago, there wasn't any DLC, Patches, or ways to improve or diversify your gaming experience so let us all be thankful hehe ;)

Banefire76

 @Gelugon_baat

The thing with this game is that none of the DLC is needed to finish the story. The main game already delivers that. An excellent example of that kind of DLC abuse is the Prothean in Mass Effect 3. His content should have come with with game because without it you miss out on alot of the story. But with Dragon's Dogma you are already given a 100% complete story and you just want more anyway because its just that good.

Sorry, but i know where you are coming from, and it would be so easy to bag this game because Capcom have screwed us with most of thier other games regarding DLC, but not with this game.

The first game was definitely fun but with some big problems, but I'm more than willing to buy another one. I was really quite impressed by how different the game felt and I'll gladly back a new IP. I can't say how much I've become bored of sequels.

skindizer

When it comes to gaming, I think there is a tendency toward too much criticism in this day and age, and that is in part due to the fact that people's expectations are way higher than they used to be. The bar has been set pretty high by some outstanding games over the years - especially this generation -  which of course is a good thing, but it also means that there are lots of complaints!

Introducing a new IP, such as Dragon's Dogma into the gaming world is often a hit or miss endeavour and it can often mean that much time and effort by the game developers amounts to a lukewarm reception by the gaming community. I for one think that Dragon's Dogma is without a doubt thebest RPG I've played this generation, and perhaps even my favourite game of this generation. Hideaki and the rest of the development team clearly put a hell of a lot into Dragon's Dogma and as far I'm concerned, it really shows. The only issue here is really the capability of the hardware - the Xbox being that it is nearing the end of its lifecycle, is starting to show that it is struggling to keep up with ever-advancing software capabilities, and so issues such as draw distance, frame rate dip and screen tear are quite common. A next generation iteration of Dragon's Dogma would I'm sure be even more amazing than the current Dragon's Dogma but despite any hardware shortcomings, I'm certainly not at all disappointed in what I'm playing! And if it means supporting the developers of a game I'm stoked on, I really don't mind paying for DLC.

Uh...have you played other RPG's?  Mass Effect, Dark Souls, Dragon Age are all miles ahead of Dragon's Dogma.  Yeah the combat is fun, but there are some serious design flaws (the cutscenes, clunky inventory, backtracking repeatedly to get where you're going, etc.)

skindizer
skindizer

@kathulos  Sure I've played other RPGs including Skyrim, Dark Souls (which I thought was amazing!) and all three Mass Effects... but I still find Dragon's Dogma to be my favourite because it's just the kind of action RPG I like. Nothing wrong with that :)

@kathulos I'd say it had more than just combat going for it. It's one of the few RPGs I've played that gave me a real sense of adventure (Wandering through a haunted forest with only a few feet of lantern light to see by, long treks with no fast travel easy outs for example). The backtracking could get irritating I'll admit, and the story was garbage, but I'd still say it was one of the most exciting RPGs this gen.

Banefire76
Banefire76

 @kathulos  @skindizer

Um you can only really call ME1 an RPG, Dark souls was indeed excellent but just how many NPC's were in it? And Dragon Age 1 was pretty good but was not very open world like Dragons Dogma and Dragon Age 2 was crap.

What Dragons Dogma showed us was an excellent starting point and as long as it doesnt go the way of the Bioware series and sellout RPG elements for hollywood action titles than Dragons Dogma 2 will obliterate them in regards to RPG goodness.

kathulos
kathulos

@Banefire76 You seem to have a very specific idea of what an RPG is.  If by "sellout Hollywood action" you mean "amazing story and cutscenes", then no, you don't have to worry about Dragon's Dogma "selling out".

i almost hope they wait till next gen or release a pc version as the graphic where one of the things holding this game back, especially the draw distance. It is amazing and tons of fun but needed a bit more polish (fast travel system or at least a spell to make the character faster) cause my goodness walking to and from bluemoon tower 4 times is enough to make a person crazy

A beautiful game that has great moments.

Finally...looks like Capcom is finally on the right track like back in the day. DLC so far is a little suspect but any full blown expansion or sequel would be great. Surprisingly addicting game and the best rpg I've played this gen.

I have been planning on getting this game. I just keep hearing and reading nothing but pretty high praise for it, so it will be the next game I purchase as soon as my backlog is gone, which is pretty soon. It almost seems like Borderlands from was it two years ago? as the sleeper hit that will hopefully become a nice franchise.

Would but the sequel, but I hope this DLC practice would just go away. THese minor DLC's should just be a PATCH and we as consumers shouldn't need to pay up for these "additional" contents. Unethical business practice IMO.

After finishing this game you "want" to buy more content. Its because the full game already gives you so very much that you dont mind spending more on excellent. I know that Capcom has been guilty of DLC abuse, but with this game you find you are much more forgiving.

With that said i havn't found the small amount of DLC that i have downloaded to add much more to the game so i stopped after buying 2 of the $1 DLC's but seriously Capcom has outdone themselves (and MANY other companies) with this game. Sure its not perfect, but what it did right was stupendous and if Capcom listens to fan feedback and improves upon those areas that didnt work, then we will see a real gem indeed!
