Interesting. Perhaps this is the future - at least for sony. Playstation as a subscriptions service rather than a hardware brand?. Interesting and in line with some of the noises coming out of Sony in recent months. Obviously only viable in certain territories due to broadband speeds and not realistic as a worldwide distribution network but in a number of years who knows.....Perhaps we'll see some generic hardware/protocol and we'd all just subscribe to the Nintendo/Xbox/Playstation/Apple channels as our preference takes us. For now though, it's Steam for me.
New Gaikai site teases Uncharted, Killzone, Metal Gear Solid
Updated website for Sony-owned streaming company hints at support for new first- and third-party franchises.
Since Sony completed its $380 million acquisition of Gaikai in July, little has been heard of the cloud-gaming company. Now, that has changed.
Gaikai has launched a redesigned website that teases support for a range of franchises like God of War, Uncharted, Killzone, Metal Gear Solid, Mass Effect, and LittleBigPlanet
Representatives from Sony and Gaikai were not immediately available for comment.
Established in 2008 in Aliso Viejo, California, by David Perry, Gaikai enables game streaming to a variety of devices via the Internet. As part of its acquisition announcement, Sony said combining Gaikai's technology with Sony's game platform will provide users an "unparalleled cloud entertainment experience."
