Oh...im sorry guys i love playing online, but one VERY PROMINENT problem....LAG....OMFG...this lag is the bane of my existence. It turns a ten hit combo into an automatic loss right before my eyes....Bandai Namco please fix this.
Online support and single-player modes being added to Namco Bandai's download-only PS3 brawler.
Sony's experiment in digital distribution last March was a bittersweet package for Tekken fans. Though GameSpot's reviewer called the download-only Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection "practically arcade-perfect," it lacked online play, which disappointed many fans of competition-oriented fighting series.
However, all may soon be forgiven, as Sony today has announced a major update is in store for Namco Bandai's brawler. Headlining the update will be the addition of a feature-heavy online mode. Fighters can participate in ranked and nonranked matches, with matchmaking options including an opti match, quick match, custom match, and friend match.
Further fueling the competition, players can view their opponents' stats and voice-chat with one another while observing others' fisticuffs. The online mode will also include a news ticker, which will be regularly updated with the weekly, monthly, and overall rank leaders.
Also included in the update will be two new single-player modes. Practice mode affords you a virtual dojo, where you can practice your moves. Survival mode tasks you with defeating as many opponents as possible with a limited health bar.
A release date has not yet been revealed. However, when it is released, the update will come included in full-version downloads, with an update pack for those who already have the game also available through Sony's online PlayStation Store. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is rated T for Teen. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
I love this game, playing online is so incredibly fun. I just hope they will keep the online play for Tekken 6. Well worth 10 bucks.
August 30th is the release date. Look forward to some real competition online. Thank Goodness for this release. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24003.html
Ha I've played mk2 online and trust me those who have slower connections than i do make the experience not worth experiencing. I have a bad feeling as this involves more than jump kicks and sweeps that it will mess up gameplay. Tekken requires precise timing and lag kills that in a heartbeat.
Lol I remember argueing about this on the Gamefaqs boards when DR for the ps3 came out. I can't believe bamco actually did something right. All I hope is it doesn't lag too much or at all online, so I could use it as an alternative from going to the arcades and spending a few quarters.
Why is everyone dissing Sony about this update isn't it Bandai Namco's choice not to add the online when it was first released? The only I really want out of Tekken 5 DR for PS3 is Team Battle, that is by far my favorite mode for playing with others, but it doesn't look like it's in the update either. All I know is I would rather have Team Battle then Survival, but being a Tekken fan and wanting a fighting game to play online I will be picking this up when it comes out.
Hold UP!! What about the PS2 and PSP version? both of the old systems are capable of online play for years now!!! Well I'm not buying a 600 dollar system for a game that I already own just because it finally goes online after all these years!! They are a struggling Franchise because of the 360's online power and I'm not throwing them a rope!!! To little To Late!! Sony u suck!!
Huh? It's been like that for months here (Japan)... come on Sony! There couldn't of been THAT much translation needed! Stop it with the slacking!
Finally a chance to get battered by someone that isn't related to me! i've been dreaming of this day since tekken 2!
tekken is kind of boring now, the series dont interest me anymore, it used to be a very cool, interesting game though
I've only played Tekken DR once or twice since I downloaded it. Once this update is released I'll be playing it loads more.
Nice job Namco. It is about time that playstation owners were able to get online with their fighting games.
this only makes it an even better value for money! I mean, look how cheap that game is on Sony Marketplace and how much you will get! :D
Good news indeed for the Tekken franchise but I imagine there's going to be a lot of abuse with the grappling due to inescapable moments of lag.
This is gona be so AWESOME! everyone will just be pushing the high hit button over and over to get wins.. OH COME ONE ," sony is learning" see sony can do good things" any dumb ass can figure out they should make EVERY game online if its good enought o be online.
There wont be any professional tournaments online so the professionals dont have to fear of losing money because of lag. I dont know why people think that just because Tekken is played professionally that its incapable of being good online. Frames only matter at high levels of play, not being able to justframe an attack because of your ping isnt going to ruin the game for casual play. Online mode will be a massive improvement over single player mode since the AI is just horrible, with or without lag. Online Tekken with a little lag will still take a great deal of skill, youd have to have horrible lag for a noob to beat a veteran player. Adapting your game to deal with different handicaps will only make you a better player in the end anyways.
I'm so happy... I could cry. NO ONE can handle my Christie... and I'll finally be able to prove it online.
