Overlord to raise hell on PS3s this summer

PS3 owners should be happy - this game was loads of fun last year.

@ Sammojo Tread lightly sir for you walk the path of ignorance. No game can or should be judged by a demo. I didn't care much for the demo either, but loved the game and highly recommend it. I've purchased the expansion, but have yet to play it. Too busy playing Lost Odyssey ( IMO best traditional RPG ever and I've been playing RPG's since Dragon Warrior for the NES that came with my Nintendo Power subscription) and Call of Duty 4 on Live.

I used to think that getting a game later than the competition was bad. but almost every time we do we get it with extra content that Xbox fans had to shell out extra for. I like this trend and I'm willing to wait for games to come out with all of their content in one disc instead of piece mealed out to me for various points equaling up to about 5.99 a shot.

This game was pretty poor i thought, played the demo and was really disappointed. I can't see why they are porting it. I just really hope it doesn't end up like Lost Planet did, getting worse the more times they ported it...

I LOVED this game on the 360. BEST GAME OF THE YEAR when it came out.

I really try to avoid making comments that sound "partisan" in this console war, but honestly...some of you X360 fanboys are borderline retarded. Do you think Sony is sitting around waiting to get 360 retread? Hell no. All of these old 360 games coming to the PS3 with new content has more to do with Microsoft's business ethic than it does with Sony's laziness. If Microsoft is willing to throw tens of millions at a company to get access to a PS3 exclusive (DMC4), then it's obvious that Microsoft is willing to throw money around to make games 360 exclusives...even if it's just for a few months.

Wasn't a particularly bad game on 360/PC. Would be cool to see it on PS3 with a lot more content.

I would hardly call Overlord, with a 76% average rating from 46 different review outlets a "horrible" game. People overuse 'horrible' these days as much as 'fail' and 'for the win.' Let's not perpetuate cliches. If dozens of reviewers formed a 76% average for the 360 game and the PS3 version is shipping with improved graphics and sound, a new mini-map, bugs removed, and all the 360 expansion content...gee, it might be an 80% range game. Oh noes, is 80% good enough to not be "horrible" or "average scraps"? Jaded doesn't work when it isn't justified.

Why does everybody on here hate Overlord? It's one of my favorite 360 games, and I've been playing almost nothing else for the past week (especially since Raising Hell was only just released)! The only thing that concerns me about this announcement is the statement that the PS3 version will have an on-screen mini-map. Lack of map was the single biggest problem with the game in all of the reviews I read, so I hope they release it as a downloadable update for the 360 version.

Loucetios mentioned "this is codemasters, not sony" I know. What does Sony have to do with this being ported? The way people are complaining you'd think Sony was pulling resources off their other projects to port this over. This has nothing to do with Sony. Rasterror said "Now the PS3 is dying to get the 360's average scraps." Riiiiiight. With over 135 games out now, 90+rated 70% and above (metacritic) PS3 owners certainly won't be falling over themselves to get their hands on Overlord. Codemasters might make an extra buck seventy five though.

One thing Codemasters has that is a boon to PS3 people is one helluva finely optimized version of their 'Ego' in-house engine. The one that powered DiRT, also in upcoming GRID and Op Flashpoint 2. Like a few other UK devs, they really milk the Cell with that engine. This point is utterly meaningless when it comes to the Overlord engine, but one would hope that CM's engineers have lent a hand for the port.

Who the hell gonna buy this BS for their ps3. I know i ain't, the summer will be especially for mgs4 and haze.

Why are ppl talknig to sony of this thread? this is codemasters, not sony, and sony is giving me too many games on my psp, patapon, GoW and Crisiscore all in basically the same month? ouch, and in 2 months Haze, and MGS4 for my ps3? whoo

First time hearing about this game, its not like they're porting Gears to the PS3 that would get me interested.

Hey look another 360 port.... Focus Sony... focus. Here is a thought ... work on bringing out titles JUST for your system. That's what will make people buy it....exclusives ... not poop games from another system.

Yeah Overlord was okay. Im kinda dissapointed in the tower building. When I heard about that I thought I was going to reconstruct a runi into a tower of serious doom, but it turns out all Iwas adding were a couple of spikes, a flag, and a brazier, LAME. The minionns are reaaally stupid too, I hate haveing to micromanage with nothing but a simple thumbstick. Sure the game made me laugh, and It had its moments of pillaging and wanton destruction, but its not enough to be worth the next gen price.

Wow! Now the PS3 is dying to get the 360's average scraps. Next they're gonna port Dead Rising by next year. I guess Sony's future is in the 60's past catalog.

This game was horrible. Just concentrate on some NEW games, hell how about getting "Home" up and running? How about those accomplishments in place to make each PS3 game just a little bit more fun?

Why port THIS GAME? The reviews for it were so-so at best. I never played it so I can't really make a statement on whether it is good or not. I would love to see BioShock brought over to the PS3. I know that the fanbots are going to rake me over the coals for that statement but that game was fantastic and should be played by all. I own both a 360 and a PS3 and think that each system has unique features. I always have to state that in my posts just so that there isn't some tool trying to say that I am bias or something.

Fantastic. Another 360 game ported over to the PS3 so the 360 fanboys can yell "See how much better the 360 is! Look at those framerates compared to the PS3!" before stopping and bowing towards the direction of Redmont. It's nice that developers are taking notice of a rapidly growing user base, but I'd be surprised if this port is as good as the original 360 version.

--henry4th -- lol...since when was Overlord labled as a 360 exclusive? And the fact is 18-months is one hell of a long time to port a title.

Demo on 360 didn't excite me....not sure a few extra goodies can entice me to get it on PS3.

It's more like xbox360 lost another exclusive title. But no one cares about this game.

@gameboy you'll never be a businessman when you say things like that. companys port games and refrain from exclusives not because they didn't make enough money but because they want to increase their revenue as much as possible. why do you think GTA 4 is going on the 360 as well as the ps3? so that rockstar can increase it's revenue and sell as many copies as possible. can fanboys please leave.

Funny comment about the 7.1 surround sound.... The PS3 can send a 5.1 or 6.1 Dolby Digital or DTS signal to your receiver. Your receiver, when sending one of these signals, will use your back surround speakers as if they were another set of "regular" surrounds. Your receiver cannot understand nor decode any 7.1 discrete audio signal, encoded or not (which is what PCM is, not encoded). Doing so REQUIRES an HDMI connection. The PS3 can output a 5.1 signal Easily. Games like Call of Duty 4 or probably every PS3 game. It sends an encoded Dolby Digital signal from the optical output, the very same type of signal that's used on the majority of DVDs. But for Blu-Ray discs, there's no way to get 7.1 discrete audio from the PS3 to your receiver.

Ports are only done when the publisher didnt make enough money the first time around.

Well it can't be a good port since it wasn't a good game. Even if they polish it up a little and add some stuff, the game is still over a year old and boring as church.

I was thinking about getting it for the 360, but there are better games, I wont get it for the ps3 either. I want R6V 2.

*YAWN* my worst nightmare is now coming true: After the PS3 was a year later coming out, companies are going to try and re-flog thier games on it as afterthought ports. We don't need them. The PS3 has fantastic games out, and even more fantastic games coming. We don't need ports of lackluster 360 games. (and yes I've played "overlord"....its bites)
