Konami promises Pro Evolution Soccer will return to series' simulation roots on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, PC later this year.
Though Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 managed to boot FIFA 09 from the top spot of the UK charts when it was released in November, critics held it in less esteem than its Electronic Arts-developed competitor.
With Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, the publisher is seeking to best its rival on both fronts. The game will ship this autumn worldwide on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PC, and PSP.
Konami has focused its efforts on improving the core gameplay in the new Pro Evo, promising a return to the series' simulation roots. According to the publisher, key improvements to the AI mean that midfielders and defenders will work together, eliminating weak spots and the chance for soft goals.
Konami is also promising a number of other tweaks under the hood. The publisher touted a new power-gauge system, which will assess players' formations against their opposition's before and during a match, as well as a new penalty system that seeks to improve control and accuracy.
The overall look of the game is also being tweaked, with creator Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka aiming for better player likenesses, animation, and lighting systems. Konami also plans to improve Pro Evo's online component, and intends to release a number of items as downloadable content after the game's launch.
Last but not least, Konami has also secured an exclusive Europa League licence (formally known as the UEFA cup), having locked down the Champion's League rights last year. Argentinean Lionel Messi, who plays for Barcelona, will be adorning the game's box in Europe.
Hehe, PES still boosts PS2 and PS3 sales in Japan. They'll probably make PES games for the PS2 for another 5 years! :D
back to PES vs FIFA talk... i bought both PES and FIFA the 2009.what i could tell you: yes,PES is for men but FIFA is for freak. FIFA:outstanding graphic, outstandingly idiot AI,terrible control PES:some graphical flaws(you'll find GK's glove is awfully too big:),pixellated uniform even at highest graphic option, and else)and really could't stand againts FIFA's graphic, genius AI,terrific control, dude,i like this game i wonder how's next series will looks like?
I am a huge PES fan and the only thing that annoyed me on PES 2009 was the dam goalkeepers fumbling shots right into the path of a forward! VIVA LA PES!!!
letīs be honest this is a great game, but KONAMI needs to improve. They canīt give us the same game every year with team updates only. We need gameplay, more signature moves downloadable updates and content. And most of all better online performance, PES 2009 online platform was really bad, thatīs why ea sports had a better performance last year. I am a PES fan thats why i am realistic because i want KONAMI to be on top!
What is everyone on about!? PES 2009 was really good! PES 2008 was a bit dissappointing in terms of gameplay and presentation. Both got way better in PES 2009 though! I'm expecting a much much better online gameplay though as it is still unplayable! I hope that they also increase their overall licences of the teams s that they can become more like a real game though. FIFA is all about the presentation, manager mode, detailed graphics, etc. That is all amazing in FIFA, even the music is way better than in PES. In the end though, the core of the game is its gameplay, where PES, especially 2009, beats the gameplay of any FIFA that came out untill now ::PES 4 Life!::
It seems Konami and PES give good luck to the players that appear on the cover of the game box, not like the so called Madden curse; when CR7 appeared on the cover in 08, he had a great season, became MVP of th year and now Messi will probably become MVP this year, not to mention that both players won UCL respectively, PES RULES!!!.
PES always has the best gameplay out of both games... the only reason i have heard anyone who was into pes buy fifa09 was because of the online problems pes has.... hope this is rectified then i wont have to buy both :)
Yeah i had a lot of hardcore PES mates that had to admit that fifa 09 was the better football game, they REALLY didnt enjoy admitting it. its about time too, having the license means they should really be nailing it. the last pes really annoyed me, did anyone else get annoyed by the sound of the football when it was kicked? sounded like a bloody cannon!
ultim8gear - Seriously, where the hell did you learn to write? Dis and dat, onwardz and upwardz. LEARN TO WRITE PROPERLY you complete waste of space
The last couple of PES games have been crap. Many of my mates seem to have turned to FIFA now, including me, and it isnt right!! They should just re-release Pro Evo 5 lol, that was the best. Even keep the PS2 graphics lol, im not bothered. Gameplay is key!
2 all da haters out der.. first of all, FIFA used 2b gd and fun back in the days, before 2000.. ever since 2003 onwardz, itz been goin down lyk derz no 2moro. WTH?? Pro Evo has bn da real deal...the real simulator eversince.. only problemz i rememba is wen i first startd wz i used 2 complain a lot abt all da problems.. bt now i hardly complain nemor.. in PES2008 everytin was almos perfect apart from da fact dat u'd get a foul very quick just by SLIGHTLY touchin some1 or bumping in2 dem.. which was crap. in PES2009, it was all good, apart from da old school tap shoot u had to do, coz da shot power guage wd fill up real fast (datz coz dey used the same engine as PES 5 for PES2009).. in PES2008, da shooting power guage control was awesom. But PES2009 has the most realistic gameplay iv seen 4 its time in any soccer game since last playin FIFA 2003. Fifa.. wen u play it, u kno ur being messed with.. like ur wastin ur time.. apart from the commentary and the real feel of it all-- being licensed and all -- and all dose unlockables for the little kids to enjoy, doesn't have much else to offer. I mean have u seen how big the stadiums are relative to the players.. no stadium in the WORLD is dat big. The players look lyk ants. I mean i used to hate pro evo with passion right until PES 6.. bt wen PES2008 came, u realised things started to change.. and PES2009 was jus magnificent.. I mean now, wen u play PES2009, itz nt even strict nemore what with the fouls and offsides and bookings. But FIFA is..coz all FIFA ever does is follow PES.. with the pass/shoot delay.. wen u press da button, u gotta wait for YEARS for the guy to kick da ball.. they overdo everything they see in PES which they 'think' to be a plus in there gameplay specs..wth? And u cnt really see mch improvements btwn consecutive FIFA games, i mean itz hard coz each FIFA release has always been totally different to the previous release.. eg free kicks, shooting system, menu style etc etc. They always change in every new annual releas. Not much of an improvement, more of a change.. i mean cmmon, dey still havent settled down yet.. dey still dunno what is the best option in a certain aspect of the game.. wth? FIFA is totally confused.. PES is improvin and learnin from deir mistakes... and are gettin ever closer to perfectionism. They have a path that they follow in an orderly manner.. unlike FIFA.. all i can say is PES needs improvements in Licensing, and DEFINITELY online lag.. they shouldn't even make us wait for stupid patches to come out. And also make the shoot guage a slight notch better.. similar to PES2008. I rest my case..
playing 2009 sucked with all the slowwww gameplay feel..made me roll back to 2006,the much faster paced and more fun to play..guess in 2010 they will make it even more realistic by slowing down gameplay...which means it wont be that fun..but nyway i wish they add more rewardsss in the game..like new shirts or balls or ANYTHING..can't they learn from EA?
@PESwonderkid You know that Ronaldinhos not that good, right? Saying tat anyone can pull off a trick from ronaldinhos book really isnt impressive. And there arent really advanced tricks in FIFA. Maybe like a rainbow, but any 12 year old in america who plays soccer can do that.
Ah... don't be stupid, play this game on PC and change the OPTION FILE and you'll have every team players, shirts and names. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE GRAPHICS, I just want a real football game, like the older ones.
I am really dissapointed with PES, I remenber when it was WE 5 (2000) for PS1, I just couldn't stop playing, but since PES 4-5-6 the game quality were decreasing, and with 2008-2009 they just focuss to much in graphics, I can't handle the players, in high game difficult everytime I try to run with a player (with the ball) it's foul. It would be better if they returned to previous versions gameplay and with more IA and these graphics it will sure be a GREAT GAME, for now on it has a 7 no more, here in Argentina we know what is football, I've playing this game for more than 10 years, I wish this time they do it better.
although Fifa does have the better graphics and gameplay its made for 90 min matches whereas Pes it a 10 min game and a GAME!!! which = fun
Nice to see some fellow pes fans. While Fifa may look better and have the licenses. All you need to do for pes is get an option file (PS3) and the Premier League is back to fully licensed glory with the superior pes gameplay! PES Rules!
I hope it is true...i was PES fan for 8 years, but no more since 2008 and now as fifa fan. they are great...yes they need improvments but overall better the stupid PES animation... again, i wish they are back, serious this time not fooling anyone like the last two version. they are good at talking only...so let's see this time.
looks like Konami finally got the message that PES needed an overhaul.we'll see how EA responds to that
Darkblaster20 that is very funny what you said is exactly opposite of what I felt. Since years ago (back in 1996) I used to play FIFA 96, I own every FIFA game since 96 up until now and I very much enjoyed playing FIFA over Winning Eleven but since 2008 I found that Pro Evolution Soccer had a much much more fluid gameplay compared to FIFA. So since 2008, I have started to like PES more than FIFA. Its just that fact that FIFA feels much more rigid than PES, although the licensing in FIFA is way better (North London, West Midland Village anyone??
first time i played PES i said wow this is different from fifa, later that year i bought PES insted of FIFA and i thought it was a good decision until 2007, when i played fifa 08 i got shocked... it was for over a thousand much better that PES and now with FIFA 09 EA got the entire soccer sim market ruled!... PES have to work his freaking ass off to get back in the road cause fifa its way way wayyyyyy much better that pes, way a lot! The only thing that PES have to do left is to do a soccer sim game almost exactly the same as FIFA, with a little differences. They cant change the entire game as they did 5 years ago, they have been doing the same thing over and over again and we got tired to see that. Maybe if they do this, they will sell a couple of more copies that they "original" ideas to try to do a great game. Its a lame for sure.
why you expected a better pes 2009 on consoles...fifa 2009 was better in the consoles cause they wanted to be so to sale more products. PC is capable the same tha a ps3/xbox 360 does... anyway pes has the best ball physics ever.look at fifa's ball physics. Are you kidding this is magic soccer the ball goes up and down right and left so much that only a rocket can...
PES is the best... I played fifa for years just to compare it, I have to say I can not play fifa more than 10 minutes... PES really rocks...
"The Silver Arrow" is right. I just don't trust Konami anymore. PES games on next-gen consoles were all horrible and buggy productions. Animation is awful, ball and player physics are unreal. PES was never strong because of licenced clubs or great graphics (that's FIFA's stronghold). PES was all about gameplay and fun-factor. I played (and bought) all versions since PS1 (ISS Pro). But... Fun? Not anymore. My PS3 PES2008 is just gathering dust. I quit trying after 100 or so matches. No reward for good tactics or passing. Goals were almost random. Online... a joke. No fun. Last year, for the first time in 7 years or so, I didn't buy PES (2009) at launch. Tried both the demo and the complete game (borrowed from a friend). Still wrong. FIFA isn't my deal. Tried it, but I just do'nt enjoy the pace nor the "complex" animations... I admit I'm probably too used to PES. I'll stick to my old PS2 version. And I don't even nedd to get a new one, since the PS2 game engine is exactly the same since 2007. Seabass and Konami lost their way. Multiple versions (Xbox360, PS3, PC, PS2, PSP... plus Wii, DS and mobile) and commercial interest spoke higher than quality. I will keep my fingers crossed, but I've lost my faith.
@ simonsworld. Jeez!! IT's in the post right below yours. Konami CAN NOT get most of the league/team licenses. EA sports has EXCLUSIVE rights to them. Get informed and stop crying for licensed kits and club names. download an option file if it bugs you so much to play with North London. Or just play FIFA for its "realist" kit.
Does No-one see!!!,PES is coming back!!,for goodness sakes i am getting tired of people saying,''I dont wanna play with Man red'' or ''Forget this Laggy online PES'',Just because they dont mention the laggy issue in this article doesn't mean they won't be working on it.I mean just look at that Lionel Messi picture,it looks amazing!,amazing realism and graphics, and that's a sign that this PES2010 is finally gonna prove all the people who giv up on PES and switched to Fifa, please FIFA is nowhere near to realism, any old joe can pull off a trick from Ronaldinho's book, which is so fake, also FIFA may have the EPL licensing but please, have u seen the graphics,,just look at chelsea's kit and please dont tell me it looks good because it looks like a 6 year old's drawing,Konami looks like it is serious this time,i mean a new game engine!,woah that will be a huge risk, but it will all be worth it when it kicks FIFA 10's ass,get ready, this is a game to look forward to,by looking at that Lionel Messi picture,I'm thinking ''Oh my god,Wat realism and amazing graphics!''. PES is the Best and PES2010 will prove that!!
very pleased they going back to the more realistic roots, 2009 did feel abit arcadey, and i havent loved or played a fifa game since 97, after that it was all pro evo soccer games for me but fifa 09 closed the gap alot, there improving there games every year were pes, took a step back in 2009 more realistic it needs to be, and it should be by the sound of it,more english teams and licences, or the prem league licence would be excellent.
I am going to try this one more time. Konami CAN NOT acquire licenses which EA is sitting on the EXCLUSIVE RIGHT. Some of you are so ignorant, it shows how much you actually know about the games you play. They can't give you more than 2 teams from the EPL in each game due to EAs exclusivity deal. When they could get you the other leagues they did. Then EA bought exclusivity with most of those licenses too. Come to think of it, EA seems to know the average gamer is quite ignorant, and is most likely to go "oh, why should I buy a game with man red, it isnt realistic.. blah blah..". Hey, even the gamespot reviewer made a similar comment in his review.
Please, please, improve the buggy online play. That should be Konamiīs first concern, as thatīs what keeps me away from PES. FIFA online play is almost flawless and responsive, itīs like playing with someone by your side.
as a long fan of PES, I'm tired of konami's promises, they have been talking about this "upgrade" for the last few years now and we are still getting nothing substantial. i want to believe them, but i'll just have to wait and see. not holding my breath tho'.
To Drangel: u mean by buying out the licenses and being the only games allowed 2 sell that type of game??? first football now futbol.....seems llike summin theyll do
If EA sports keeps raising the bar the like they've been doing with the latest Fifa games, Fifa 2010 could be another title that will give PES a run for its money. Hopefully they both turn out great, I wouldn't mind buying both.
Why on earth are they waisting money on the CL and the UC when we are still forced to play as "man red"? I'm not a fan of putting potentially damaging files on my ps3 or 360. FOCUS on securing the BPL license and return to glory or continue to fade to EA's honest attempt to make a good game. P.S. I fully appreciate the importance of both competitions, but are they more important than a representation of the best league on earth?
"Every year Konami spout this crap - after being a life long PES fan I finally made the jump to Fifa last year, it was a much better simulation of football than Konamis shocking PES 2009. It's going to take some MAJOR improvement to take me back to PES......GAME ON!" Nice. I like people who can speak from experience and arent little kids who dont know crap about gaming. PES sucks these days and after seeing them let one of the best series ever go downhill year after year, Ive decided they must not want my support. I doubt theyll ever see another dollar from me. FIFA >>>> PES
"Another game series that doesn't come to the states. I had to import the last few on PS2." Err, no youre completely wrong.
