Konami hiring for London studio to reinvigorate Pro Evolution Soccer for "high-end consoles and PCs."
Pro Evolution Soccer publisher Konami plans to establish a European studio for Tokyo-based PES Productions. The London studio will focus on PES projects for "high-end consoles and PCs," Konami said in a press release.
The new London-based satellite office will "adopt and recreate local football culture that will ensure the long-running series is kept fresh and exciting," according to Konami. The Japanese firm will be recruiting staff for the new studio at the Games Developer Conference Europe, the mid-August industry conference that precedes Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.
With the Tokyo team's PES 2013 scheduled for release this autumn, a secondary team dedicated to "high-end consoles" might turn its attention to the next generation of games machines, given that the Wii U launches this winter, and Sony and Microsoft are expected to unveil their efforts next summer.
The football franchise will be looking to recover ground lost to rival series FIFA. Though last year's PES 2012 performed solidly for Konami, it debuted in the UK sales chart at five, while FIFA 12 charted at number one and outdid PES's first-week sales several times over.
Konami president Shinji Hirano talks up the new UK studio as an initiative to capture "the majesty of European football," saying that “these are hugely exciting times for the PES series."
FIFA12 was better in game play, but PES12 had better graphics, at the end all we can see at the time of playing the game is a player and not the actual faces, so FIFA12 won, but without putting aside PES with more teams and "Copa Libertadores", so this would be a never end battle.
i just played PES 2013 , FIFA has some competition this year thank god.
neither are even close to NBA 2K12 in realism , but its definately more competitive between the 2 franchises for 2013.
Pes has great graphics but fifa is better.
are you playing it on the 3DS? The reason i'm asking is im thinking about getting a 3DS XL and im woundering about the resolution.
PES is great game but it lake of official ty like club real kits and name of players ..i know there is pes patches to make it more realistic ...any way fifa and pes great games
seeing this news, i expect a shift in gameplay style, leaning towards ARCADE gameplay. I hope my thoughts are in the right place
@termnalvelocity the only gameplay change I would expect is a concentration on the long ball to the big number 9 with 9 in defence ;) It is what the English do best after all :D
@xeis-net LOL if they want to capture whats great about European Football the last place they should go is England . Just set up their studio outside the Camp Nou and problem solved .
Someone get me a job at their UK offices! That way I can make sure they actually include 2v2 in all releases of the game and not shaft people :D
I have been playing PES for 9 years, this year I play Fifa12 since I work with 3 former EA developers who always say Fifa12 is better, since we all are very competitive players, within 2 months I can defeat them which played Fifa for many years, and also prove to them that Fifa12 have so many bad gameplay that hurt competitive players: fitness shot is one which I can do it again and again from far to score, and the most annoying thing is the stupid AI defenders which always make you feel that you lost the game because of them not because of you are bad...AI vs Human not Human vs Human in many cases. ....I will go back to PES after kicking Fifa12 players ass this year :)
sadly pes fail after 2010 They did not improved Gameplay, Fifa aded new engine somehow improved in 12 pes is same with better graphics every year but same game, but It will be better if Both will evolve :))
PES is already the best football game but hopefully this will help them in the graphics compartment because although FIFA graphics are better its cartoonish and PES can pass them in the department too.
Since 2008 FIFA is the best football game simulator, PES urgently needs to improve if they want to stay in competition
I for one ame sick of EA and FIFA's "Ultimate Team Revenue Stream Whoring" which will only get worse as it's proved to be a goldmine. I'm done with their micro transaction B.S.
PES desperately, desperately needs licences for european teams. Gameplay is ok (which has still a lot of room for improvement) but as a long term PES player I want to see real names of players and teams, not like the copy chinese brand names :)
@hasancakir Free patch for Christs sake use the free patch .
As a reply to myself, I can make changes and download mods for it (on PS3) but why I should bother instead of developers? They sell millions of copies of the game every year, so I believe they can get licences if they want to. That's my point :)
@hasancakir The only reason i can ghink of is that EA might possibly have an Exclusivity deal with FIFA. However as Money talks i suppose anything is possible.

@Whole-Lotta LOL but that,s realistic because Liverpool cant play in the Premiership either .
i create my own kits for PES, ive put in ALL the real logos from the net on the jerseys. It plays out exactly like the REAL thing for me , so i havent had this issue.
@Whole-Lotta I support a Premier League club and I've played PES over FIFA for almost 10 years now.
@Whole-Lotta Because, at least in the PC and PS3 versions (don't know about the Xbox), you can download mods made by the community that includes virtually every possible football team as detailed as any official license. Licensing was never a big problem to the dedicated PES player. PES includes fantastic customization tools that allow you to edit every player, team, or league. Personally, I like to customize the players myself as EA and Konami usually exaggerates their skills, in the case of the big stars. Also, a have friends who are fans of smaller teams and PES is their only way to go, as neither Konami or EA will ever license small teams.
"given that the Wii U launches this winter and Sony and Microsoft are expected to unveil their efforts next summer." ----> ( Another false and self claim rumors from gamespot.)
Bring it to the UK and we'll show the world how football should be done! Our national teams may be rather crap.. but we still invented the sport.
I suddenly got excited for next-gen pro evo!
soccer is a game that has been played for thousands of years... brits didnt invent soccer, they just finalized a rule-set in cambridge(rules) and even after the brits finalized a ruleset, they didnt join FIFAs founding in Paris(im sure the french say they invented soccer too), which is now standard,
@SauhlGood Maybe so, but with football (soccer) only just becoming the 3rd biggest sport in the US it's perfectly understandable why they'd move development to Europe. It's the biggest sport over in this part of the world, 10 years ago the yanks didn't want anything to do with it.
@SauhlGood I'm from Britain and I fully agree. I said this to someone in a chat room a few months ago.
That's good, Europe is football land and where PES feedback comes from the most. They will make next gen PES games with FOX engine. ^_^
@KillzoneSnake In Brazil PES out perform FIFA by a large margin. And We love football. But they need a studio in Europe, in Japan they don't live football as in Europe and South America
