PlayStation Store Update: Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team

Sony ushers in August with a range of new games and content, led by a title from the now-defunct THQ Warrington.

Leading the charge this week is Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team ($10). As mentioned, the game comes from THQ Warrington, which has since been shuttered. As for the title, Kill Team plays out as a third-person arcade shooter, and gamers will be able to assume the role of one of four classes. The sternguard veteran and techmarine offer ranged-combat options, while the vanguard veteran and librarian focus on close-quarters brawling. The game also accommodates two-player split-screen.

As an added incentive, those who play through Kill Team's first mission will unlock the power sword for use in the aforementioned Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. The weapon, which is a powerful melee energy weapon, will be available in Space Marine's multiplayer mode.

Also available today for the PlayStation 3 is Dragon Age: Origins ($30). Released in 2009, BioWare's fantasy role-playing game casts players as a Grey Warden. The game offers players six origin stories based on their character's social station and race: dwarf noble, dwarf commoner, city elf, Dalish elf, human noble, or mage.

Those separate stories tie in to a larger narrative about the Grey Wardens, a mysterious order of knights guarding civilization from an ancient evil. The game features 60 to 80 hours of gameplay.

Gamers looking for an updated arcade game this week can grab Galaga Legions DX ($10). From Namco Bandai, the shooter is reminiscent of its 1981 predecessor but sports new graphics and power-ups.

Players hoping to add to their existing games can grab new downloadable content for Red Faction: Armageddon and Brink. THQ's Volition-developed shooter adds the Path to War mission pack ($7), which contains four new missions, two fresh weapons, and 10 trophies to earn along the way.

As for Splash Damage's Brink, that game adds the free Agents of Change DLC. The multiplayer add-on offers a situational storyline, in which a ship docks at the Ark and sparks new conflict between the Resistance and Security factions. This new fight opens up two new battlegrounds: an underwater lab facility and the Founders' Tower, which plays home to the haven's upper class.

Along with introducing two new arenas, the Agents of Change add-on raises the level cap to 24. Players can also get new outfits and weapon attachments. The content will be free until August 17, at which point it will be offered for $10.

Lastly, sports game fans can grab the just-announced EA Sports Season Ticket ($25) today on the PlayStation Network. The year-long Season Ticket gives members early access to Madden, NCAA, NHL, FIFA, and Tiger Woods games, a 20 percent discount on DLC, and more.
