Pro Evolution Soccer 2 beats FIFA 2003
Konami's latest soccer game is outselling EA Sports' offering a week after the two games launched simultaneously in Europe.
Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2 is sitting atop the ChartTrack all formats sales charts in the UK after going head-to-head with the PS2 version of EA Sports' Pro Evolution Soccer 2 last week.
Konami Tokyo's Pro Evolution series of soccer games has long been the preferred choice of critics, but it's only in the last year or two that Konami has seriously challenged EA Sports for the soccer sales crown. This year was the first time that the two companies launched soccer titles on the same day--after Konami brought its release date forward by two weeks and, in doing so, prompted EA Sports to bring the release of its PS2 version of FIFA 2003 forward by a week. The Pro Evolution Soccer 2 , Pro Evolution Soccer 2 , Pro Evolution Soccer 2 , and Pro Evolution Soccer 2 versions of FIFA 2003 are still scheduled for release in Europe tomorrow.
While Konami and EA Sports claimed slots one and two, respectively, Codemasters' Colin McRae Rally 3 crossed the line in third place, just ahead of the previous week's number one, Eidos' TimeSplitters 2.
