Colossal Mayhem pack available today for $5, with Excessive Force add-on dropping later this month; both bring new weapons, powers, and skins.
Gamers yearning to wreak more havoc with new weapons and powers in Prototype 2 are in luck. Activision today announced two new downloadable content packs for April's well-received over-the-top action game.
Available today for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users is the Colossal Mayhem DLC. It includes the thermobaric boom-stick weapon, as well as force multiplier powers (warp vortex, antigravity field, and air time) and three custom skins. The Colossal Mayhem DLC is free for owners of the Prototype 2 Blackwatch collector's edition and is available for 400 MS points on Xbox Live and for $5 on the PlayStation Network.
Following up the Colossal Mayhem DLC will be the Excessive Force add-on, which is slated to arrive on May 29 for the above-mentioned platforms at the same price point. This pack adds the new viral infector grenade launcher to gamers' arsenals, as well as fresh force multiplier powers (shock wave, chaos creator mode, and Medusa's wrath) and three additional custom skins.
A PC version of Prototype 2 is due out on July 24. Neither DLC pack was announced for that platform, and as of press time, Activision had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment regarding whether or not the content will eventually hit the PC.

got it, check this
Everyone is just taking a page out of EA play book...lets disk lock content then says its DLC and make people buy it over priced...I am so sick of this
WHat they need to do is come out with a story add on DLC, to extend the lore of the game. Not horse armor stuff, that you can't really even use in the game.
@inkyspot What people need to do is stop buying this crap. That way it will force the developer to 1) start making full length games again as it is clear things are purposely left on the cutting room floor to sell 3 weeks later or 2) force them to come up with some quality DLC... like and lengthy extension to the campaign or side story.
As gamers we are our own worst enemy... most of us do not make the developer earn their money.
We are making it too easy for them folks.
@ShampooMctavish IN the original xbox360 FAQ it was said that games would cost $50, I guess they broke their promise
A good point and one that has often been made.
Especially by us older gamers (I'm 36), because we remember when this "online only for multiplayer" and dlc racket crap was NOT the "standard". Back then, when you bought a game, all you had to worry about was if it was good or not. And reviews and frineds who'd already rented it gave you a heads up.
The two DLCs just add few more weapons, powers and skins, no additional story or achievement, so I am not planning to get it.
Can you imagine how much money they would be making if they lowered the price of games from 60 to 30? :O their payment would be flying in! But noooo it has to be $60. Just wait, they "might" lower it.
@Remember777 They'll make less money and the quality of games would decrease because they wont be making enough money.
@arhiem That doesn't sound right. cause if the price was to decrease they would have more buyers. Can you imagine when MW2 came out, and it was only 30? Dude they would totally have more. Don't you think?
@arhiem that is not true. If they lower the prices to 40$ they will be making the sales at lest triple. That is not money loss for me.
the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the middle class joins the poor instead of having the chance to become rich
economics man... Back in the day developers and producers didnt have to have as much money on video games because they were easier to make not just cause of the technical power but on also how much profit they have to return due to investors if the company is properly owned.
If it were up to Activision and EA they wouldnt nickle and dime us but they are puppets to the stock investors which will only put hefty cash on a stock if they're will be a immediate profit on their investment so in order for EA and Activision to remain heavily funded they have to throw out these dirty money grubbing tactics to please the greed and disadvantage of putting a game producer on the market thats why a company like Valve (Privately owned) would never do anything like this.
(Its also the reason why half life 3 isnt out yet cause they dont need to rush to perfect their game they can take their time cause they dont have to meet the demand the stock buyers want which is fast profit.)
This is why I think that if this continues it will only get worse in the comming years and the game industry will only keep inflating in these prices where eventually we have enough and stop buying games or these dlc which will cause the industry to crash due to the slowdown in profits and these companies will have mass lay offs due to them not being funded because of lost demand of the investors.
The only survival of this soon crash will be private and indie, which will only scale us down from the technology that which will only get better but the developers cant face the price tag. I dont mind but this but i dont think we will ever reach the ability to have reality gaming like in a machine that we envision 30 years from now... god dang i have alot on my mind...
Sweet, the first one was mediocre at best. This game doesn't look like it's worth my time either, I wasn't ever planning on buying this game. But now this just makes me sick.
I don't understand why everyone here is complaining since this sounds like some of the crappiest extra content I've heard of.
@ToTs_00 Were complaining because we bought Radnet which was suppose to give us free content till June 7th. And that the dlc is $5. Now I know 5 isn't allot but it is for some people, especially after they already payed 60 bucks.
The moral of this article- Dont ever buy a game when it is $60 because you will be slapped with a dumb dlc 2 weeks after release which should've been free

It would be awesome if Radical Entertainment or Activision, whoever's putting this dlc out, if they read all the complaints below. I wonder if they would do anything about it?
miss the times when it require skills not your wallet to unlock weapons, powers ups and skins
good thing for hackers, so i can enjoy my games without paying those greedy bastards more of what the game is worth
miss the times when weapons, power ups and skins require skill not your wallet
good thing for hackers, so i can enjoy a game fully without paying those greedy companies
Got this today, was good fun :)
It's a shame that the force multipliers are game-breaking and therefore disable achievements etc...I thought they were going to be similar to mutations. Doesn't matter, at least when I want to mess around, I have more reason to pick up P2 for that reason.
Would also like to thank MS for the free MSP.
Personally im gonna wait til early June to start playing the game again and start doing the the sets for the Mercer skin and whatnot. Already 100% the whole game with no difficulty. I would have been happier if all this *ahem* "free" content was already there in a game thats already lacking content, let alone fresh content
so if its ONLY 5 bucks, and 1000 people D/L it. No wonder games are 85% finished.
15% is for DLC . So keep buying and don't be surprised if it goes 70-30..
People will complain about anything i guess, got a couple of skins, a pretty cool weapon and some cool new moves to mess with, i already love P2, and this will make me like it even more. If 5 bucks is really gonna kill me, i guess i can you know, not eat out once this week and have spent the same amount of money. Also this is not nearly as bad as some other DLC
We already paid $60 freakin bucks for this game. That, especially in today's economy, is a LOT of money for a game of software entertainment.
What else out there for everyday entertainment is THAT expensive? Going to the movies is about $10 and buying them is anywhere from $15-$25. An iphone/mobile game or app is cheap usually not any more than $10. And yes, I know these almost never have depth comparable to a console game but entertainment is still just ENTERTAINMENT. It doesn't always matter how deep it gets, Whatever passes the time for the cheapest dime is the way to go. And it's not like video games are only a little bit more expensive then these other forms of entertainment. It's a LOT more expensive, which brings me to the relevance towards this article.
Why are we being asked to shell out more money for content when we already paid a whopping $60??? (which I just explained is already becoming too much). It's just not right. It started out as just some extra costumes or a few maps, but now the list goes on. Before Prototype 2 came out, I remember seeing ads on gamespot that said, "50 free pieces of DLC when you pre order". That's a load of BS! Why should I have to pre order a game to get content that it should already come with? Content that the developers already created and they just plucked it out to be sold separately? And then all these stores have their own "exclusive" pre order content. Why should some players be left out of ANY kind of content just because of WHERE they decided to buy their copy of the game? It's sad and it is corporate greed. If DLC is launched with the game or near after, it is wrong. It defeats the purpose of what it was originally intended to do. They actually have the balls to ask us to PRE ORDER DLC for Max Payne for $30!!!!! WTF?!?!? And these are for multiplayer MODES not just silly costumes, etc. You will not get to play these multiplayer modes unless you give into their greed.
What's gonna happen next gen? Prices of games usually go up for a new console....Are you actually going to pay $70 for just ONE SINGLE GAME?! That's a whopping $140 to get two games, tax excluded. Oh, and then you'll be forced to buy DLC to play the game at its best potential.
@Kenshin0011 Golf and Hookers are about the only more expensive thing you can throw your money away on. These publishers should all be given drug tests.
Dude chill out! Why dafuq are you screaming at Radical for releasing DLC when every other dev/publisher is doing the exact same thing.
This Post-Release DLC is now Industry Standard. Get over it!
Oh. Many of us are definately "over it". We're over it in the sense that we don't waste our money on current gen games. We stick to our golden oldies.
GOG, ftw! Woohoo!
@Vastano Yes, it IS now industry standard but I WILL NOT get over it. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't make it right.
No it doesn't make it right, didn't say it was. But I think it's just time to move on. The publishers doesn't care about changing their tactics to suit us. IMO I think you've over reacted to Prototype 2's DLC, when other devs/publishers for other games are releasing more DLC that is over priced.
The DLC here isn't even necessary if you want the full experience, it's literally a small add on that has little-to-no affect on the story or gameplay. You don't lose out if you choose not to Download it.
@Vastano Dude he's only complaining about one of the biggest scams those people are pulling off... Chill.
Also you mentioned the "In this economic climate" argument. You do realize that they too are in that economic climate?
@Remember777 Oh I do agree it's a big scam, but as I said, he has completely overreacted to this. If it was for story DLC, or gameplay-enhancing DLC, then I would say his argument would be justified.
But this DLC is neither. No one misses out if you decide to give this DLC a miss.
@Kenshin0011 Do you know how much and hard FKING work goes behind to create such game you moron?
No one forces you to buy either the game or the DLC so stop complaining...if you don't like it quit gaming...
If I don't like it, I won't "quit gaming". Instead, I simply won't buy THAT game.
There are plenty of games, especially from previous gens, that DON'T pull that type of crap. I simply buy and play those.
@nate1222 Welcome to next-gen. If you don't want to pay $70 for a game, buy used or wait a year for the price to drop ;)
@Darnasian Well said. Kids obviously don't know how much it costs to create a game.
@Darnasian Like Remember777 said, a game is just a game! We already paid $60 and then they want us to pay more for content that should have been there in the first place? Content that, more recently, is VERY important for getting the full experience for the game?
@Darnasian True, Nobody Is Forcing us to buy DLC, but You have to admit, Sometimes it Crosses the Line, Like With Final Fantasy not Putting the Ending in the game and selling it as DLC.
@Darnasian But dude the fact still stands that it's just a game. Sure we appreciate their work but the plan is is that if they do a superb job than they get paid well, if not than try harder next time and see what the players want. 60 bucks is hard for a kid to buy or even some teens. The price needs to be at least 30. 60 is ridiculous!
@Darnasian The profit doesn't go to the people busting their hump creating the game, it goes to the executives.
