PS Vita gets PlayStation Plus in November

Sony bringing premium service to new portable later this fall at $50 per year; current PS3 subscribers won't pay extra.

Sony's premium PlayStation Plus subscription service is coming to the PlayStation Vita in November, the company announced during its pre-Tokyo Game Show briefing. Subscribers will have access to game and content discounts, 1GB of cloud storage, automatic updates, and unlimited access to a range of full titles, provided their subscription remains active.

PlayStation Plus subscriptions will be available in North America and Europe in 90-day plans for $17.99 and €14.99 respectively, as well as yearly at $49.99 and €49.99 for each region. Those who hold an existing PlayStation Plus subscription will not need to pay extra.

PlayStation Plus launched in June 2010 for the PlayStation 3 with a $50 annual fee. The regular PlayStation Network service, which includes online multiplayer, has been free since the PS3 launched and there are no announced plans to change that.

how about a free film provider like xbox gold members have. I can see the appeal of this but to me pointless. i take it you can stream games from your ps3 to your vita with your ps plus account ??

can you not use your PSN account on your vita?...

You know, the CLoud really takes some of the bite out of those proprietary memory cards...

Surprised it's taken this long to be honest - but good news nonetheless

Shouldn't this be a no brainer?

I don't know if this will motivate anyone to join the PlayStation Plus fold, but if you're already a subscriber and you already own a Vita, this is fantastic news.

Until the game library is bigger, I'm guessing that we'll see Minis and PSOne Classics as giveaways.  Hopefully they'll make more of those games compatible with the handheld system soon.

Awesome...been waiting for this. Although...really wondering what full games will be offered...you know...seeing as the Vita's library of software is quite...shall we say...limited.

@TimboII and expensive since there is such a small amount of games

For anyone who had PS+ and stopped subscribing, you can resubscribe any time and play all those games you downloaded before.

@VirtualTofu It's stupid to pay a yearly subs for some old games. That would cost me the same money as one year sub costs... lol. I'd rather buy them and have them for ever. than this...

5SI-GonePostal
5SI-GonePostal

@Matthew-first  @VirtualTofu Good luck with that - my sub costs me less than 3 pound per month - this month i have downloaded more than i would say 150 pounds worth of games and thats buying them at 10-15 second hand, and apart from a couple most i would sell on at a loss so for my 50p per game rental for as long as i want thats a bargin

I wish they had the service for PS one and PS2, though they did have the PS Underground which was like a really early version of PS+.  Still, that would be awesome to receive a free PS one game in the mail, even if it came in a cardboard sleeve.  Or a PS2 game in a cardboard sleeve.

Also if you only have 1 PS3 then you can log into your best buds Ps3 with your account then sign back in as him and he can download all your PS+ stuff too, double win! All PS store stuff can be put on 2 PS3 systems. And used by anyone on the sysytem, not just the logged in player, WIN!

theKSMM
theKSMM

@4quarters This basically activates his PS3 as the second of two consoles on your account.  That's fine if you only have one console and he only has one, but if he goes rogue and doesn't de-activate his system, it will prevent you from activating any new ones in the future (e.g. if you get a second PS3 or a PS Vita).

You only get two system activations at a time, so be careful how you use them!

Exactly , great for another family member or second system though

this is certainly great news. i got ps+ about a year ago (mainly wanted cloud storage after my old ps3 got stolen) and i have never regretted it at all. sony sure knows how to treat its premium subscribers.

PS+ is the best deal in gaming.....YOU ARE A FOOL if you have a PS3 and no PS+

You gets TONS of free complete games across all PS3 genres(minis,PS1,PS3,PSN) including AAA titles.

Also, beta tests, free DLC, discounts on PS Store stuff, free dynamic backgrounds, cloud storage, etc.

Easily the first year, $400 or more in free stuff. Even if your only playing 1/3 of it you come out waaaay ahead. Now with Vita added, wow! This is the best deal in gaming.

@4quarters Some people are better off without it, I personally haven't seen any games going for "free" that interest me and the only savings I'd have gotten would add up to about £10, which for £40 a year seems a bit of a waste.

But sure I'm a fool for not wasting £30...

 @JimmeyBurrows

free games in  the last month include -

Infamous 2

Ratchet and Clank- All For One

Virtua Fighter 5

Little Big planet 2

Tomb Raider -psn game

Walking Dead

Warhammer 40,000

Right there is $140.00- Many many more in the last 6 months

If you love to play games or try lots of games , it's great

If all you do is COD......get a life

@4quarters you're a fool... or someone who doesn't like renting. all those free games disappear 30 days after you stop paying. many of us would like to revisit titles 5-10 years down the road. the fact is that PS Plus is simply not for everyone.

5SI-GonePostal
5SI-GonePostal like.author.displayName 1 Like

@Lamesy  @4quarters And you get to keep all those games you RENTED for 2-5 days??  DOH!

The free games are rentals!  Its quite clear.  If you want the titles then buy them.  The only fool here seems to be you my friend...........

@Lamesy  @4quarters You do get to keep all the games you got on discount, including games I got for $1 and .50 cents.

If I stop my PS+ account, I've already had the games for a year and played the heck out of them. Thus, $50 to rent 40-50 games for a year as well as all the perks...Total win. With a gamefly or Blockbuster game rentals your still gonna pay $8-$10 a month, which is cheaper? Plus with the 30 or so "game trials" you get more than demos...a full 1 hour to play as far as possible and earn trophies, I've played many games I would not have ever rented this way and found some great games by accident. Also the Ps1 and minis transfer to the PSP for on the go...you're crazy.

Great news. I was against this service at first, but after trying it for free from SONY, it won me over fast. It's amazing. I've been an Xbox Live Subscriber for years, and if I can pay $60 a year, I can surely afford $50 a year for discounts, free games, and DLC. It really has paid itself off in only a few months, giving me games cheap or free that I would have bought.

Pretty good, might get a PS Vita soon. I already have a PS+ subscription from my PS3 so it's good news that I can use the same one for Vita :)

This is nice and all but I think Sony just needs to focus on getting games on the Vita...it BADLY needs them.....

I've been waiting for this. Looks like I'll be picking up a Vita later this year. Playstation Plus is the best deal going in gaming. You can't get more gaming for your money anywhere.

Don't have a Vita but I am thinking of upgrading to plus. With access to free games and 1hr trials of full games, it actually seems worth it. Not trying to bait console wars but I'm probably gonna drop my xbl gold account,  just doesn't seem worth the $60 a yr it costs to use internet I already pay for along with other services I already pay subscription fees for.

5SI-GonePostal
5SI-GonePostal

@Chaos_Dante_456 I have done just this - i got no real benefit my my gold subscription, and even needing a gold sub to use Netflixs pushed me even futher away and using my PS3 even more.  Only down side at the moment is the stupidly long install/download time on the games + updates. :(
