New handheld's debut accompanied by first PSP Minis, debuts of PixelJunk Monsters, Thexder Neo, sales on Puzzle Quest, Prinny, and more; full list and price breakdown inside.
Sony launched the PSP Go today, marking the first time a major console maker has released a system entirely dependent on digital distribution. To ensure that early adopters of the $249 system have something to play on it, the company also gave its online PlayStation Network storefront a major injection of new and catalog releases. Today's update boasts more than 100 titles in all, including the first PSP Minis, Gran Turismo PSP, MotorStorm Arctic Edge, and new downloadable exclusives like PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe and Thexder Neo.
The newly added titles are pulled from 23 publishers (including Sony). Some companies have clearly embraced the idea of digital distribution for PSP games more than others. Electronic Arts alone added 20 games to the PlayStation Network today, from the recently released Madden NFL 10 to older titles like Lord of the Rings: Tactics and The Sims 2. Among the publisher's newly offered downloads are five different Need for Speed games, from Underground Rivals to this year's Shift.
Pricing for the games is also all over the map. Games just released in stores on UMDs are sticking to suggested retail for the most part, with Gran Turismo PSP, Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, and Beaterator all commanding $39.99 price tags. Older titles are being offered for considerably less in many cases, with God of War: Chains of Olympus fetching $15.99, Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness going for $14.99, Def Jam: Fight for New York for $9.99, and Puzzle Challenge: Crosswords and More setting the thrifty bar at $4.99. Interestingly, EA has chosen to charge more for 2005's Burnout Legends ($19.99) than for the game's 2007 follow-up, Burnout Dominator ($14.99).
The fist batch of PSP Minis has arrived, although the "mini" designation applies to file download sizes perhaps more than to price. EA's Tetris ($9.99, 29MB) and Sudoku ($4.99, 30MB) lead the charge as promised, with backup from Gameloft's Hero of Sparta ($6.99, 47MB), Creat Studios' Alien Havoc ($4.99, 8.03MB), and more.
A number of games are also enjoying temporary price cuts. Nippon Ichi Software has cut the asking price on Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? and Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman to $9.99 each, while Puzzle Quest is on sale for $7.99, and niche fare like Work Time Fun and Cube are $4.99 for a limited time.

@hornet224 Finally somebody who gets it! Idk why people want a second analog stick and all that jazz. It's a hand held! Quit thinking it's a portable playstation, it's a playstation portable if you catch my drift. Nobody hates the DS cuz it doesn't have motion controls! Geez!
im pretty sure they have 32gb memory sticks available but i could be totally wrong. i know they have 16gb though. but the psp go is way bettter sounding to me now. im still def keeping my psp2000 cuz im saving for a ps3 but if i had a crapload of money i would get it.
I don't now about the full games, but I know the developers set the MINI prices, not sony. http://www.pspminis.com/361/pricing-up-to-publishers/ Maybe if you guys did some research you'd find that the developers set all prices and you could all be happy. BTW- I have a PSP Go and its great. i got monster hunter and the load times are so so much better. The system is just alot more portable. There's a few bugs in the OS still (like a couple freezes here and there and the usb cable not charging when its completely dead). My only complaint is I wish the psn store was more populated. I want to download FF anniversary editions.
At all you people begging for two analog sticks and four shoulder buttons... How about you just get a PSconsole controller in your pocket and duct-tape a screen to it? That's what it'd be like trying to cram all of that into a handheld. For a portable system, that kind of garbage is just impracticle.
At Generic_Dude PSP-1000 (Launch Price) $250. PSP- GO (Launch Price) $250. PS3 (Launch Price) $600. Good fight with all that, "It's the same price as a PS3" bullsh*t.
I can just get a new memory stick and get these games on my old PSP itself right? I already tried downloading some stuff to the PSP. All one needs is high speed broadband and not a new device :). On this note however - whats the max memory people have tried using with the PSP ? will 8 gb work ? I believe 16 gb sticks are also available ? But its a good idea for new folks to enter the PSP world.
they are trying to be smart and make more money this way.. but they have no idea the current psp owners wont be buying this new version. if they do buy it, it is going to be a big mistake,,im not telling why..
My friend has got one, since he sold off he old PSP ages ago. What game came with it was gran turismo (I think). I have to admit, it felt really weird to hold it, because it is slimmer than any PSP. I had a go on his Prinny game, fair play it does run a lot faster than UMDs.
I don't understand the haterz the psn for games is just like Itunes for music, what's the problem?! sure, it will take some time but eventually this WILL BE the future and we can't fight it. @Generic_Dude "I see the manufacturer as the only source of distribution, which means they can control the price" yeahhhh... no, they can't . the psn STORE is like any other STORE (yeah, I know, big surprise) and sony alone decides on the price of the product (with consideration of agreement with publisher of course(like any other store))
for the people whom do not understand why Sony have done this as a digital only games console is souly because of trade ins and preowned products they loose money that way and so does the manufacuter that way cutting out the retail profit and getting maximum profits via download that is all still me personally would perfer a hard copy
PSP Go: $250 Playstation 3: $300 Something's not right here... besides, wasn't one of the benefits of digital distribution supposed to be reduced overhead, which would logically translate to to the value being passed on to the consumer? I'm not seein that here... I see the manufacturer as the only source of distribution, which means they can control the price. I'll stick with my UMD games, which I can get on sale regularly and not wait for Sony's Grace to give me a break.
Love sony.... but hate even the idea of this new Psp u can get God of war umd right now on amazon for $5.25 NEW even with shipping less then 10 dollars beat the game an get a couple of bucks when u trade it in. this psp cost more but takes away from the psp i dont understand this move at all its just about money just like my Ps3 not being backwards compatible, i wish my old 60 gb ps3 didnt take a dirt nap i could have finished god of war 2 an oh yeah SONY if your listening HOME SUCKS i love my Ps3 an my blu-ray but come on guys you are killin us Ps3 fan boys
DaSlyOne customer reviews mean nothing???????? wow. just wow. thats kind of a harsh statement. i mean i buy most of my games based on customer reviews. hell i am a customer and i leave reviews of games all the time. if i trusted the reviewers review of persona for psp i wouldnt have bought it. but the people playing it said it was good so i got it and am happy with it. as far as the psp go most of the people saying it sucks dont have it. how can you form a negative opinion of something you havent experianced? if you look back at all the comments people have left on this list of comments from people who say they have it they all say they love it. every negative comment is people saying why they wont get it. such is life i suppose. but you cant say that all the good reviews of a product is put there by an employee of whatever company is selling said product. my review is there and no one paid me. you can also kinda tell by the grammar errors in most customer reviews that if they are being left by pros then there very poorly educated ones.
the go is wack idea i think its cuz they want in oon the touch market lol that they can touch get it lol thenamesmillen xbox live psn my space
@ShaunyChaos Customer reviews mean absolutely nothing, especially on the day the unit comes out. Obviously, those who shelled over the cash to buy one aren't going to give it a bad review on day one. Secondly, who's to say that the reviews aren't planted by Sony themselves, to try and overcome the negative press. But no one would do that, would they!?!
you know whats funny? the pspgo has garnerd mad hate on this site. and yea it may get back to sony but for everyone on here that hates the go. wothout judgment being passed in any way i offer this. read the customer reviews of the unit on gamestops store page. if im not mistaken there tens across the board. and theres a lot of customer posts. im sure they will see that as well.
I bought a PSP-Go its a Pretty nice unit. Very nice to carry around. I admit 250 is to much , 199 seems more reasonable. But all in all its good. One thing i complain about and its not even about the unit is the Games. Lots of games available at cheap prices too Lots at 19.99 , i even bought blade Dancer at 4.99. But Square Enix Didnt release any of their top Seller (Huh?!?!) No Chrisis Core, no Dissidia, FF1,2 Anniversary editions. Star Ocean 1,2. All games im more then willing to buy right now. Basicly all the games that made a lot of people buy a PSP in the first place. No metal Gear's, No GTA's. Lets hope all these Companys get together and start Listing their products fairly quickly, or sony is going to have a lot of even more upset customers then they do now. (if they even care, which im not sure about)
@ShaunyChaos After reading your comment, I have to say that I agree with you in that way. Although I mentioned on another comment that I found the DSi a bit useless for me (I have a DS lite just to play GBA games), now I would like to have some other games for download. More like I wish that a particular fan-site could finish the translation process of a few GBA games that I want to play. Don't get me wrong, I still have the original Japanese GBA games that I'd rather die than to sell it.
ill just wait till next year when they drop this to 200 dollars and stop producing the 3000. im pretty much expecting it right now, since all of the smack and hate the Go is recieving will probably reach Sony's ears.
well hey someone answer please uh if you have this you need to go to a wifi hotspot right and can you download game sfrom a PS3 thats not yours and also do you need a wireless internet cuz im planning on buyin this and i dont wanna have something that doesnt work
nintendo should take this to heart and make some old school stuff available on dsi ware. i got a dsi with dreams of having gba games available for download? anyone else? this many months later and what do we have? one game with mario and like 6 or 7 art style puzzle games. if nintendo linded wii ware with dsi ware so i could play ocirana of time or the original smash bros wed be in bussiness. if we at the very least had gunstar super heros or the minish cap or any other collection of good gba games then i at the very least would not feel that i had blown the dough for a dsi for the soul purpose of having a digital camera with less mega pixels then my cell phone and an albeit cool yet still not worth the investment photo shop esque sofrtware program. dont get me wrong i love nintendo. i have an n64 that i keep in my office under a tv in the break area. my point can be summed up like this...did anyone pay 30 bucks for the cart release of chrono trigger when it first launched? i know i did......next did anyone download final fantasy 7 on there psp for 10 bucks the day it was released on psn? again i did. what im trying to say here nintendo. if your reading this stop being so lame and gimme something on dsi ware that i wanna play or im gonna trade in my dsi for psn points cards.
I'm grateful that they didn't have Metal Gear Acid. I couldn't get into that game and so I traded it for Daxter in the first place.
I still have a PSP slim, but there are a few games that I'm willing to download onto my memory stick though. But the price isn't entirely worth it. Why do I want to buy GoW or Daxter online when I could buy a preowned version for more than a few pounds cheaper? Even UMDs have a high price for a reason. There's value in the game's hard copy and the physicality of the box and instructions. Even if you pull the plug, it's still going to be there.
isn't it amazing how sony could do this as the go came out and nintendo couldn't for the dsi. what sucks is that i left my dsi on my way back from atlanta and i cant be bothered to buy another one.
Some pretty reasonable prices on some of the titles, such as God of War and Daxter. Sonic Rivals 2 and Persona? I understand Persona just came out and all, but if I had a PSP Go I would have wanted atleast a 15% discount or something.
Gamecrazy is going out of business (unfortunately - I liked them more than gamestop) so my guess is the best option would be to buy PSP games at bargain prices from Ebay. I'm certain Ebay gives a better deal than price points the PSP Go may currently offer for their back catalog of games. P.S. I like your icon. Isn't that Mark Bagley's art of Venom? He's a comic drawing genius! I mean, just look at the dynamic poses he's drawn for the Amazing Spider-Man books back in the nineties. Even his material in the Ultimate Spider-Man & Thunderbolts series is good. Bagley is my 2nd favorite artist from Todd McFarlane.
I'm a bit gutted that R-Type Tactics is not available. But that's just me being a fan-girl. Personally I just wanted that game's loading times to be exponentially short. But one can dream on. Now Daxter and God of War, that's more like it. I used to have both games before I traded it in for another game. Both were really good games for the PSP. At least there's light.
uuuhh... jazzfan4 eventhough the game is only ten dollars try to remember the download rates as well. k it miye add up to be around a little lower. Just Saying
im stoked on the future. the pspgo is the sweetest handheld iv ever owned but it made me think.........the psp2 with a download only format 2 analog sticks 4 shoulder buttons and a big chunk of the back catalog of ps2 games for 10-20 bucks a pop. can you picture it? a small portable with 32 gigs and metal gear solid 1,2,and 3. or final fantasy 7 x x-2 and 12. if the go does well this dream may be a reality within the next few years.
And another thing; Whats with all these halfass upgrades? I mean, I would expect a few redesigns of the same old handheld from Nintendo, But I'm not gonna buy a new piece of hardware six months. I still have my launch PSP, launch DS, and FAT game boy advanced. How much more can they milk the same dam hardware in a different plastic shell? Not to mention that the PSP GO is a downgrade in every respect!
I can buy hard copies of some of these for cheaper. What a flop... Sony you can't do anything right anymore...
I'm glad many posters have picked up on this topic. downloads are supposed to be cheaper since there are no disc/box/distribution costs,And what do we see? they're selling for same prices or in some case higher.this is a total rip off ,total scam a blatant lie meant to seperate the consumer from their money with no freedom or ownership of our games. we pay real money and own nothing. If this is the way of the future i hope people start to wake up and not support this crap.
