Ubisoft announces return of tactical shooter series with Xbox 360, PS3, and PC game that promises "exciting new narrative direction" and "unprecedented level of humanity."
It's been more than three years since Rainbow 6 fans last saw a new console entry in the series, but Ubisoft today confirmed it has another one on the way. The publisher announced Rainbow 6 Patriots will arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC sometime in 2013.
Developed by Ubisoft Montreal with assistance from Ubisoft Toronto and Red Storm, Rainbow 6 Patriots will follow the counterterrorism Team Rainbow squad as it tries to put down a group of American insurgents known as the True Patriots. As players look to suppress the True Patriots' budding revolution, they will be faced with "tough ethical decisions," according to Ubisoft.
"Terrorism has evolved and so has Rainbow 6. In Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction," Ubisoft creative director David Sears said in announcing the title. "This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience."
The game will also include cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes that aim to encourage communication and teamwork.
The Rainbow 6 franchise last surfaced on consoles with the 2008 launch of Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. For more on the tactical shooter, check out GameSpot's review.
okay, now this can be good news, bcs UBISOFT can actualy count on this game if Brothers in arms furios 4 fails....... wich it kinda seems it will
When it comes to the Kinect intergration 'Option', i will simply use it only for the 'Gunsmith' facility.
i dont know... Ubisoft's games have been pretty mediocre accept for the AC series, which even that is still starting to feel stale
All I want is 4-player co-op. Not just in Terrorist Hunt but the main game as well. They HAD 4 teammates in Vegas 2 but we could only play as 2 of them.
RB6 will always be the best along with original SOCOM. COD is prostituted out every year and the new age demo grew up not playing critical thought games, so hard shooters aren't looked at twice. COD hasn't made anything new, just added graphics and easy play, u end up with a watered down lame SOCOM Vegas 2 had High Stakes but again kids want magic vision and hip fire. Reflexes are different on high stakes and it will wear out ur controller faster. definitely buying this game just like Future Soldier. Dragon Rising was another game that was awesome as a up close and personal shooter, as long as u can THINK, screw the planes and tanks in the game, surrounding a enemy camp and unloading on the while closing in is the sh*t
Out of all of the military shooters and tactical shooters, Rainbow 6 is one of my faves. I also like the Operation Flashpoint games as well as the older Delta Force PC games...... I'm definitely looking forward to Rainbow 6 Patriots......2013 seems like a long time to wait......
I just got a 3/4 chub... I hope they stick with the Co-Op campaign and terrorist hunt that i love about RB6 games. 2-4 player Co-OP campaign would be sweet just saying.
@Valen_ca Nah, I doubt Ubisoft would ever deface the various Tom Clancy licenses in such a way that they would take the base structure of the game that everyone knew and loved and completely throw it out the window just to fit what's popular at the time.... *looks back to SC: Conviction*. Ladies and Gentlemen we may be screwed.
The market is too inundated with FPS war games. So im having a hard time getting excited about them anymore. By the time the new GR comes out, I'll have lost all interest.
@spOOoOOn & @Valen_Ca I feel ya as well. I'm tired of my favorite shooter gettin all "Savin Private Ryan" on me oppose to being more like "Commando" I just want to inflict head shots, flank some insurgents, and smoke a room full of terrorist and blow them to kingdom come. If they keep all the fun and smart tactical gameplay intact, have a nice long campaign like in the first Vegas, I'll be happy. Otherwise, they can save all of the Young and The Restless dramatics for my mom...
I'm a bit RB6 fan but lets not forget the E3 announcement this year "All Tom Clancy games to have Kinect support" . . . *shudder*
@Valen_Ca You took the words out of my mouth.. 'unprecedented humanity' and 'tough ethical decisions' aren't things rainbow six needs. I want to take down the bad guys before they blow up the bomb or shoot the hostages like I did in 1998.
@holtrocks My thoughts exactly. Even though i'm here mostly for the cooperative gameplay. And i guess Ubisoft can stop calling it Tom Clancy's because there's no more realism to these games...
Like R6, but i hated how R6 Vegas 1's story ended with a cliffhanger saying "to be continued" and then R6 Vegas 2 was a freaking prequel !! YOU NEVER CONTINUED IT FFS!!
Just awesome! I hope you will be able to customize your weapons like the new gun smith in Ghost Recon - Future Soldier!
"Coupled with an exciting new narrative direction..." am I the only one thinking that this will just turn out to be a tactical version of Modern Warfare?
Proper love the Rainbox 6 games, ever since on the original for the PC I got stuck in a swimming pool :P Please to god make this game amazing Ubi, you haven't let me down yet!
im not an series but im glad they not doing vegas series and do something new it might be next big hit or ubsioft.
2013? I can't wait so long lol :P I hope rainbow six will bash away MW and BF. Rainbow six has always been my favorite shooter :D
Great, we could use another shooter. "Ethical decisions", Ubisoft never played online with others before? Ethics and online gaming, now that's funny. Better stick to your friends list. lol.
Less tough ethical decisions, more tactical shooter I hope. R6 was strategy game, with possibility to play your plan in FPP. Keep it that way!
Vegas still has the best character customization. I was hoping more games would follow this. Still, good to see some news on the series!
