Resident Evil 6 getting free online service

Web-based ResidentEvil.net will track various in-game statistics like weapon proficiency and types of enemies killed; Capcom also planning themed challenges.
Resident Evil 6 will launch this October with a free Web-based statistic tracking service called ResidentEvil.net, Capcom announced today. The free website tracks various data pulled from the new shooter, including proficiency with weapons, types of enemies killed, and Mercenaries mode scores.
Additionally, ResidentEvil.net will allow users to compare their progress with those across the world and to take part in online challenge events. One example Capcom provided was a challenge that tasks gamers with killing 10,000 zombies. Those with a ResidentEvil.net account can take part in the challenge, and stand to receive points that can be redeemed for a "variety of goodies" like in-game costumes.
Gamers can also link their ResidentEvil.net accounts with social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to receive real-time notifications when a score is broken.
Resident Evil 6 joins the likes of the Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Halo franchises in offering a Web-based statistics tracking service. The official ResidentEvil.net website is now live, though it is not yet functional.
Resident Evil 6 will deploy on October 2, more than a month ahead of its original November 20 release date. It is currently planned for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

If this is true then what about those people who won't join? How will we access those in-game costumes?
The question is, will there be a RE6: Gold version later with all the DLC along with it?
If so, then i'll wait for the Gold version and pass on this one.

It was inevitable since the first gameplay showing I knew its not true resident evil anymore.....
What is the fad with stats tracking these days? God, just play the game and quit showing off.
Capcom doing free things for free? Lovely change of pace. If only Street Fighter games would get this treatment more often...
come on, we all know this franchise has been dead since RE5. Well, imo it has been dead right after Code:Veronica, but let's say RE4 was good.
RE6 looks like another generic TPS with the wrong name.

This Gen Lost alot of its Heritage from past games not just RE series.also.
Ratchet & Clank Series.
Ridge Racer Series.
Tekken Series.
Castlevania Series.
MVC series.
GTA series.
Final Fantasy series.
among others.
Its a Damn Shame. >.<
1 Like It might just be me, but I'm pretty sure Resident Evil fans and the target audience for these games really don't care too much about stats. Instead, I think they do care about gameplay, horror, story, and characters.
Of course, I'm not a big-time publisher/developer either, what would I know....
2 Like @Landsharkk couldn't agree more. The Resident Evil series doesn't even look like Resident Evil anymore - it is similar to the 2D Castlevania's and the new ones... just unrecognizable to the original games and as you said, not even really targeted at their original fan base
1 Like How many people honestly care about this kind of thing? Every time I fire up Battlefield 3 and have to look at all these statistics on the screen, honestly to me it all looks like a massive waste of time. I mean sure, if they directly correlate to unlocks, you should be able to see your progress... but other than that this kind of thing is completely pointless for me.
I'm definitely getting RE6 but this isn't something I'm going to be spending a lot of time in, if any at all. Depends on how necessary it is to play the actual game. BF3 forces it on you... RE6 may or may not.

Charging for online in RE5 was dumb, and many gamers just went to COD, Halo, Killzone, Uncharted, and Battlefield for their fix. Glad CAPCOM learned of their mistake.

So you'd rather pay for the disc-locked bonus costumes rather than earning points to unlock them through this FREE service?
@RabidBurp i never said anything about preferring 1 service to another. But knowing Capcom's track record of late, there will be a catch.
I'm always a bit wary of services like this. They're often a Trojan horse for a paid service down the line, i.e. Battlefield 3's Battlelog/Battlefield 3 Premium. The initial service may be free, but publishers are always looking for ways to monetize things like this.
sadly no, other games are taking my money, like MMO's, halo, beyond: two souls, tomb raider, last of us, Darksiders 2 and the other 100 games i still have to play from steam sales. so id only even contemplate it when its on the steam sale for like £3.75

1 Like @IamTheBesteva good or bad, like it or not, i think RE remake, zero, and code veronica are without a doubt resident evil games, they are from the same genre than the older ones were, and they share 100% of their gameplay.
I meant to say" do a true RE game, good one or bad one but at least one that can be considered part of the franchise"
Looks awesome. Me and about 3 or 4 other friends will be getting this game, so this is a great feature for us.
@MrHatnClogs i hope your talking about co-op because this game should never have multiplayer and why would they charge us only 3 console games have every charge to play and they where all mmo's
4 Like Am I the only person thats sceptical about this? It doesn't add anything to the game content wise at all just challenges to complete while playing the main game. And the whole 10,000 zombie like challenge could be covered by the likes of trophies / achievements.
Its almost like they are just trying to create online parts to single player experiences to get people used to it and DRM will be just around the corner under the guise of these kinds of features.

and so games industry recognises that RE is no longer horror but a shooter. think that's where me and RE part ways :(
@chimpdaddy sorry to burst your bubble buddy but re since the begining has been a shooter with horror elements.
really!!! thats new to me as im sure it was a survival horror genre and not pure shooter with little to non horror as it is now.
its been going mediocre for a while, as per other key notes from GDC, dumbing down at its best, not even any decent puzzles, just shoot -cutscene - repeat,
least the originals had suspense, puzzles. non co-op (for survival isolated feel). yeah shooter elements i dont think so, remember "buddy" shooter by todays definition is dumb down, not to the standards of the originals.
if you read my post i said the originals are not shooters of todays definition, shooter or survival horror or what ever actually had more brain power back then.
i am not one of these people who doesnt like change, hell im embrace it, but and this is a big BUT, only if its for the better or necessary, turning RE into a brainless todays definition shooter is neither.
@chimpdaddy if re wasn`t a shooter then i guess the orignials didn`t have you running around shooting zombies and monsters with guns.when i played those originals games other than walking around finding files,unlocking doors i was shooting monsters all the time.The only horror i saw in the original re was the monsters.the original re puzzles were so basic i don`t call them puzzles.don`t get me wrong i love all the re games i`m just sick to death of people saying there were better or they should go back to that formula cause it just a broken record.
I hope the multiplayer is worth all this effort im really hoping the online and hit detection and high damage is as good as the seem to think to build something like this.......the opposite of the bad hit detection and guns that shot rubber bullets in ORC

Odd it should have been in a shooter like RE2 even for those days...wwwaaait a minute, oh that's right, Resident Evil wasn't a shooter. Good to know they are getting with the Gears I MEAN times...
I know I know I'm just another old school stone age fan taking a shot at the new RE game but what can I say I just had to get one more jab in as a final goodbye to my favourite survival horror franchise.
@Deadly_Nemesis Its normal that older gamers prefer older games, but this time is not our fault, the RE franchise died, and then another different franchise was made and stole its name and characters, simple as that.
