Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City ships 2 million
Capcom's tepidly received latest Resident Evil title hit 2 million; publisher calls game a "big success."
Despite low review scores, Capcom is touting Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City as a "big success." The company announced today that the new third-person shooter shipped 2 million units worldwide between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City was the first third-person squad-based shooter in the history of the Resident Evil franchise and was developed in the West by SOCOM studio Slant Six Games. Upon the game's release, the studio said it found the game's critical reception "challenging," with studio producer Mike Kerr remarking that "a lot of people put a lot of time and effort into the game and obviously we'd like to see the review scores be a little better than they are right now."
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City shipped in March as a follow-up to 2009's Resident Evil 5. Gamers won't have to wait as long for the next series entry, because Resident Evil 6 is due out this October. Additionally, Resident Evil: Retribution arrives in theaters this September, and a full-length CG movie, Resident Evil: Damnation, hits in October.
A PC version of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is due out on May 18. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's review.
