I was really looking forward to their new game. But seeing how they still have tons of job listing on their website, I doubt we'll be seeing it this year.
Respawn skipping E3 again

Studio founded by former Call of Duty developers not unveiling first project at next month's Los Angeles trade show.
Gamers yearning for the first proper look at Respawn Entertainment's first game won't get it at next month's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Speaking to Joystiq, Respawn community manager Abbie Heppe said, "We won't be showing anything or doing any press related to the game" during the annual geek gala. Heppe confirmed this statement to GameSpot this afternoon.
This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo will be the second straight that the company has opted out of public activities. This time last year, the San Fernando Valley, California-based studio announced it would skip the industry's big summertime event.
Respawn has kept its first project out of sight thus far. Outside of a blurry screenshot and news that the game will be published by Electronic Arts, no further firm information is available concerning the studio's maiden title.
Speculation on the project has suggested it will be a first-person science-fiction shooter that may support 3D and could ship by March 2013. Respawn Entertainment was founded in 2010 by fired Infinity Ward developers Jason West and Vince Zampella and is currently staffed by a host of Call of Duty developers, among others.

I am curious to see if these guys still have some gas left. After they peaked with CoD4:MW, they delivered a rather weak sequel and complained a lot about their publisher and sister studios. Certainly, they will have a chance to prove their merit now. Hopefuly, this will not turn in one of those ever late projects that take forever to ship.
3 Like Ever since those two left Infinity Wards, the COD we know and love wasn't the same.
Some people were complaining about MW3 being the same as MW2. Truth is, it's not the same. I wanted MW3 to be the same as MW2, with newer weapons, maps, and other updates. It's a sequel, it shouldn't have to be completely different than the last game. Instead we got some rehashed Black Ops(which in my opinion is the worst COD game under the sun.) So I only wish the best for these two, and hopefully we will get to see their version of MW3.
What if they are waiting for the Activision lawsuit to be over so they can use the Modern Warfare branding on the new game?
Short term decision, long term consequence...I hope you guys comes out with something great...Best of luck dev.
It's going to hurt them in the long run... They really need to face Activision instead of hiding from them.

2 Like At this point I wonder if they even have a game, honestly. It seems like all talk and trying to bring down Activision. I wouldn't be surprised if they just took their money - assuming they win the case - and just drop out of the public eye entirely. I hope this doesn't happen, but the lack of any real... anything concerning their project has me doubtful
If I have to hear any more about the kinect I may skip E3 this year or the Microsoft conference anyway.
Vince and Jason are the fathers of COD... and the current COD that is going on, was not what they dreamt of. They never wanted to milk COD.I wish them luck with their new game, and I would surely be one of their customer forever.
That picture looks like its set on a ring world. Halo did it but the concept it much, much older, along with dyson spheres. "annual geek gala"... is that disdane I detect? When will developers learn that its us lot who support the industry proper and have brought it this far? At least companys like Marvel, 343 and bethesda acknowledge and are proud of their roots.
No HL3 stuff, nothing from respawn..., 2 biggest things I was praying to see.... and it's not happening... COME ON MAN!!!
7 Like Good quality games take years to make. Respawn is smart for not showing a half baked product. The entire company will be judged by their first showing of their game, so they need to make a big statement. As long as they have the funds to develop without any revenue, they can take as long as they need.
Well that's disappointing as I'm very interested in seeing what their next project is.
By "skipping" you mean "will not be showing anything to the public". They'll definitely be there, just like they were last year (as evidenced in EA's BF3 all day livestream event, where a couple dudes in Respawn shirts were filmed playing the demo, and the host being hilariously unaware of who Respawn was).

Not bad news, I would prefer to wait, and get a polished product instead of these all complete crap + dlcs, lets just hope they don't disappoint us, other wise, they won't have a long run.
Is it bad news or good news? the more developers working on games the better I think. They will be something atleast to hit our head with interesting games.

In the end,Activision is a much more respectable company than EA,they only found a perfect FPS formula,and are fulfiling the market's demand for it.They don't force you into anything,map packs,Elite,etc,nothing is shoved down your throat,all is optional.Ppl pay for that only because they find CoD very fun,and enjoy playing it...
Activision constantly pushes CoD's biggest strength,accessibility.They don't bother you with any crap,for example,there aren't even Online Passes for used CoD copies.You just jump in and play...
Oh,and for those who consider Zampella and West some sort of "heroes",keep in mind they are a part of a legal battle you know very little about,except for some news articles released to the public...
Lastly,before "Ur a CoD fanboy" repllies start pouring in,I'm not a CoD player,I don't play the game,but I don't "hate" on it either.I simply give my money to other developers whose products I find appealing...

Yeah, any recognition Respawn gets couldn't be because it was formed by the creators of COD and stole away Infinity Ward's best talent at the same time. Nope, the only reason anyone's heard of this dev is because people hate Call of Duty!

You mean the founders of Respawn found the perfect FPS formula when they were at Infinity Ward. A company that is a shell of what it was because the founders and a big chunk of their talent are now at Respawn.
The only point of merit you brought up was the fact that we know next to nothing about the legal feud between Activision and Zampella/West. How in the world do you have 13 likes? There's no shortage of people who lack critical thinking, I suppose.
@Rocker6 wow, you're a dumb ass. Zampella and West were the lead developers behind that "beloved much demanded game" and you want to cast this weird shady vibe over them? Activision knows damn well people like the game, duh... why do you think theres an annual release. Its making them lots and lots of money, after all it is a business and they're milking one of the best games ever made, and the talent and recognition go to Zampella and West, not the publishers. I don't understand why you put them on the same chopping block as EA and Activision, don't rant if you don't know wtf you're talking about. Anyway about the post, I personally think Respawn is waiting for new hardware to debut there new IP, it makes the most sense. As activision struggles to break new ground with a next generation Call of Duty, Respawn will be grabbing everyones attention with the true next great first person shooter.

got news for you: they both suck, just in different ways
but in the end they wanna suck gamers wallet dry just the same. EA uses online passes and crap DLC such as unlock kits. Activision puts a fullgame pricetag on each expansion pack and charges up the nose for a couple of maps.

Way to pass judgement on a developer that you have yet to see any of their work yet. And Activision is far from respectable - they are on the same level or worse than EA (who has not been very good of late). The only reason Activision has looked decent in the past couple of years is that Bobby Kotick has managed to keep his mouth shut (either on advice from his lawyers or the Board - that or he was too busy working on his film career in Moneyball). But they still crap out constant sequels with little or no innovation, push out overpriced map packs (even worse for MW3), keep prices higher longer than they should (still have yet to see a sale on Black Ops DLC), and run good developers into the ground (Red Octane, Bizarre Creations, the original Infinity Ward).
5 Like Other than CoD,how many franchises are being overly milked by Activision at the moment?
Why would they introduce radical changes to CoD when there's still a huge market demand for it,and why would they put DLCs at sale,or stop making them if they sell very well among CoD fanbase which are ready to pay a lot for them?
I'll give you the last point,though,you're right about these devs being run into the ground,but compared to the number of devs ruined by EA,Activision has almost nothing...
In the end,while Activision,like every other big name gaming corporation is far from perfect,but it's not as nearly as bad as many "haters" make it out to be...
@Rocker6 Sorry i should of wrote flaw and yes i was referring to the milking comment.Also yes i can honestly say battlefield is not milked as bad as cod is all you have to do is count the # of cod titles that have come out in the last 10 years compared to the battlefield series. I do recognize though that battlefield is heading down the same road as cod and it's starting with the rumor that they are coming out with a yearly service for maps,guns.knifes etc when the said they would not go the cod route.

The idea itself isn't anti.consumer,but the realization is.Do you remember the original EULA that was saying how Origin is a spyware,with access to many parts of your PC?
Now sure,Origin changed EULA,and the issue was mostly forgotten,but not by me.I can't trust or use a service that could be a potential security and privacy risk to my PC...
Also,Origin has a good share of other problems,which makes it hated in a good part of PC community...
And those day-one DLCs you listed,which are often also cut/locked from the game(The Exiled Prince in DA2) such form of Pass happens ONLY in SP games,since there is no on-line component to lock.They're excatly the same thing as Online Passes,they are locking out parts of the game that should be availible to you at release...
@Rocker6 You can't hold Origin as anti-consumer.. If EA wants to have their own store to sell their games in, let them. It's not "anti-consumer" to distribute your own content how you see fit.
Not all of EA's online passes are bad either. Look at Kingdoms of Amalur. The online pass was the House of Valerion quest line. This was originally intended to be DLC, yet if you buy the game new you get it for free. That's really not a bad deal. Buying Dragon Age origins new got you The Stone Prisoner for free. Again, not an essential part of the game. I'm not saying all of their online passes are good, but they're not bad.
If you want to cast Activision as the good guys against anyone, use Capcom. They're worse than EA and Activision put together.
I love how you say your not a call of duty fan boy then start talking about the flaws in battlefield 3 but i guess if i liked call of duty i also would be to embarrassed too considering the crap they put out year after year.
1 Like Spiderman and Tony Hawk is little,compared to Battlefied games(yep,they're going the way of the milkage too,check the Wikipedia),EA sports games(let's not go too deep,there are a bunch of them),and Need for Speed games(sometimes even TWO releases per year).And there are also potential future milkages in MoH franchise,and possibly even Dead Space...
Activision does have its fair share of flaws,I obviously admit that,but they're not as nowhere as bad as EA with their anti-consumer strategies(Online Passes,Origin on PC,disc-locked content,server shutdowns,always on-line DRM on a few occasions,etc).Also EA is much worse at their milkage,as I said in last paragraph...
All I'm trying to say here is how majority of Activision "hatred" is misguided,many "hate" them just because it's cool to bash them,while I'm also sure even if CoD radically changed,many would still find reasons to keep up with the "hate".It's just turned to a popular thing nowdays...
Well there is Spiderman which they now have been putting out on a yearly basis, Tony Hawk they are still milking in a sense by releasing the HD remake (though to be fair this is one that fans are wanting for a change). But you are right in the term "at the moment" - only because they killed off a successful franchise, Guitar Hero, by oversaturation with no innovation. And to go back to Tony Hawk, they pretty much maimed it and are keeping it on life support by bringing back a HD release of the classics. Then don't even get me started on the whole Spyro: Skylanders scheme - that is way more devious than any locked DLC on disc.
If they fail to innovate the CoD series, it will suffer the same fate as Guitar Hero. And just because they can get away with overcharging customers for content does not make it right.
Both Activision and EA deserve all the hate coming their way.
5 Like @Rocker6 You are aware that Activision just payed about 45 million dollars to ex-infinty ward employees for non paid bonuses. If that proves anying is how exploitative were the working conditions of the CoD creators (meaning the whole staf).
The demand is there because the masses don't know anything better (stagnated evolution/deprived innovation envisioning? Water flouridation?? hehe..) It's just what is advertised everywhere; the thing is a big snowball effect.
That's all Activision does, is milk and advertise the same stuff to oblivion.
Of course EA isn't any better.
