E3 2009: Limited information on PS3-exclusive espionage action title emerges, Houser Bros. overseeing development.
LOS ANGELES--In among the trailers for Final Fantasy games, Queen-soundtracked montages, and PSP Go revelations at yesterday's Sony E3 Press Conference, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton announced a new PS3-exclusive from Rockstar North, the studio behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
Few details were forthcoming at the time, save the news of its platform exclusivity. The game's existence was first revealed in July 2007, when Sony announced that Rockstar was developing an all-new IP solely for its console.
"We have always enjoyed making action games, and with Agent we are making what we believe will be the ultimate action game," said Sam Houser, Rockstar's founder. "Agent is a game we have wanted to make for a long time. The team in Edinburgh is doing an amazing job combining intense action, atmosphere, and story in a great period setting to create something that feels quite unique. We cannot wait for people to experience this game."
The game will take players "on a paranoid journey into the world of counterintelligence, espionage, and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s," according to Rockstar.

It's been quite a while since I've heard any details about this game. I wonder if it will make a 2011 release date.
The ultimate action game. Epic! With Rockstars ability and the space and power of the ps3 this could easily turn out to be one of THE best games ever made. No joke. MGS4 might have a run for it's money on my list.
i hope the game is like the graphics from gta 4 and rdr, but then you are an agent in liberty city :D
when is some gameplay gonna be released? sounds amazing but i want to see if it is a game that would be fun to play.
@tonicmole Have you ever tried playing Midnight Club, Red Dead Redemption, Manhunt, The Warriors, Bully, or State of Emergency? Something tells me you haven't.
mag , agent ,the agency and la noire are sexy exclusives for ps3 oooh yeah the agency is on pc but most importantly not on xbox
who says ps3 aint got much games ? the amount of games they have releasing is crazy, but Im really looking foward for all the games from 2k and rockstar games along with heavy rain and gt5 ACTUALL EXCLUSIVES unlike the 360 release some of there so called "exclusives" on pc also lol but then again pc is better for gaming also so its no need for a 360, ps3 and pc all day :)
If it's not GTA it really means nothing. Rockstar has only succeeded with GTA. The reason GTA succeeds is because you can run around doing anything. Just because Madden sells big for EA does not mean the any other genre will also. Rockstar has only found success in sandbox crime games. There is not a single other game of note from them. When Manhunt and Manhunt 2 are listed as some of their top games behind GTA it is pretty clear.
tell the truth if ps3 get all the exclusivs from rockstar games or even just this or gta lol ps3 would be on top
a) It's exclusive to PS3 b) It's being made by rockstar NORTH the existance of b) makes a) immaterial
Brilliant - there can't be too many killer games, man, I better get my ass into gear and clock GTAIV already, too much savouring the scenery, not enough mission killing!
R* has never let me down and never will i hope except when it comes to dlc for x360 but it will be awesome to see what they can do with the ps3 itself 50gb disk i hpe they use it all
A game with a setting during the cold war sounds like it'll be an awesome game...this period in time has so much potential for a an epic title. Definitely will be adding this to my wish list.
Naturally I can't get excited about this because I haven't see anything. Show me a movie or game play please!!
This could be yet another reason to convince me to pick up a PS3 this Black Friday, if I can catch a good deal on one. -=x
I can't wait for this. A game set in the 1970s world of espionage is something to look forward to in my book. A great setting for a game.
Thumbs up!!! To tell the truth - I was already planning to sell my PS3! But this and all the upcoming PS3 exclusives made me satisfied on my purchase! Thanks Sony! I hate you but I the same time I love you! lol :P
The Agency (sony online entertainment), Alpha Protocol (obsidian entertainment), and now Agent? all present time spy game, all starts with A. well it would be good to see a spy game that's not based around stealth (like splinter cell or metal gear), but 3 game at around the same time? this is just ridiculous!!!
So they made LA Noire into this? Hmm, I wont complain until I read more about Agent, but I think LA Noire had potential.
seriously, stop wasting my time and give me some real info.... This game was announced TWO years ago, and this is all they are willing to show?
good for them, basically no info and theres already a million people ready to preorder this based on its pedigree
@Petalic Not one. This one isn't out yet and the others listed don't interest me in the slightest. It's called an opinon, people have them.
ps3 still doesn't have the GTA IV DL content that the 360 does . . . i'm happy that R* is giving something for us PS3 owners with an exclusive like this -- even if it's timed, it's still something.
In 2007 Michael Shorrock (Dir. of 3rd Party Relations) revealed that due to Rockstar and Sony's longstanding relationship Sony was able to buy the rights to Rockstar's next IP It was confirmed it was neither L.A. Noire nor was it Red Dead Redemption, Sony had kept on stressing that it was a new IP. In 2008 Jack Tretton reconfirmed that by letting GTA4 go they were able to secure the rights to a new IP from Rockstar. In 2009 Jack Tretton reveals confidently that Rockstar's new IP "Agent" is being developed exclusively for the Playstation 3. Looking at the history this will be a Sony exclusive especially since Sony has exclusive rights for the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios, here is the link http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/07/27/new-rockstar-games-franchise-exclusive-to-the-ps3/
If you see this game make sony&Rockstar North and not Rockstar North exclusive for sony if you think you see this game all time sony exclusive
Yeah I agree, this might come to 360, just about a year later though. Exclusives don't remain exclusives for long, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
I wouldn't doubt it if this came out on the 360 one day.. it sounds like an interesting concept. I love the whole spy/espionage thing, so it's good that they're making games like these.
