Rockstar: GTAV missions will offer variety

Cofounder says missions in new action title will vary; gamers can play as protagonist and antagonist; new screens revealed.
Grand Theft Auto V's missions have been developed with variety in mind, according to Rockstar Games cofounder Dan Houser. Speaking to The Guardian, the longtime developer said he does not expect players will find themselves repeating similar missions again and again.
"We've focused on variety," Houser said. "I don't think players will say, 'I'm constantly being told what to do, and I go there, I do it, I leave and I do everything in exactly the same way!' I definitely don't think that will be a problem."
In a separate interview with The New York Times, Houser expanded on GTAV's three playable protagonists, revealing that one is the antagonist.
"Just at the conceptual level, the idea was three separate stories that you play in one game. The next bit was, let’s not have the stories intersect once or twice but have them completely interwoven," Houser said. "It felt like it was going to be a real narrative strength: you get to play the protagonist and the antagonist in the same story."
Lastly, Grand Theft Auto fansite GTAV.net posted a batch of new screenshots from the game. They offer a further look inside the gameworld of Los Santos, including its vehicles, characters, weapons, and environments.

Buying property and/or houses has been confirmed not to be in GTA V but there will be a currency system to buy clothes etc. Sad bc that made SR3 fun, buying buildings
@snakefantasy10i agree buying property with ya earnings on these games is cool, suprised they aint going to let ya, obv your property is the property u recieve in the storyline.

Lol, I'm not into GTA but I just had to say how Ironic. Of course it will offer variety, it's GTA!!
A little disappointment that there is no ability to customise character like in San Andreas ie. going to the gym and getting buff or whatever. And also no dating in the game but obviously rockstar will incorporate that in future and have a clear image of what this game needs to be. Also understandable that customising characters in this day and age is not as easy with so much stress already on the consoles.
I wonder how they are going to split between the chartacters, will it be three seperate games or when you activate a new mission will you play as that person untill the next one, or will there be a button to switch.. all sound kind of stupied, it deletes the connection from player to character.. Why not have one character with 3 these choices to each mission.. would create REPLAY value?
Rockstar disregard comment if its going to take another 2 years to create....
@YoungKeyce If you read the IGN 25 page spread from memory it states switching characters within missions. For example if one guy was on the roof with a sniper rifle and the other was bashing through the doors or in the the getaway car you could pick which you do in mission.....just have to wait and see i guess, spring is soooooooooooo far away :)
1 Like Hopefully this will be more like San Andreas in play style. That was the best game in the entire GTA series for me; even though I enjoyed GTA IV quite a lot.
Right im so tired of these new series (GTA4, SR3) offering no customization, SR3 only gave upgrades, GTA4 eliminated it altogether.. I want car customization, House customization, Character Customization as the base....
@YoungKeyce @BigFeef Thats why i had PS3 Scarface paid off years back until they cancelled it 3 weeks before release so I got the PS2 version instead. Would rebuy Scarface if they ever finish it for PS3.
I like the protagonist. It would be interesting to play coop with other people. I just Wish they add a Chinese Chinese Chinese protagonist that has the ability to do karate moves and stuff. He's accuracy in guns will be downgraded, but combat and jump height will be above average
2 Like Gimme a game like GTA3, GTA VC, and SA. If you can accomplish that Rockstar games, hands down. I can talk for more people here if I say those GTA games have made my youth an awesome part of my life.

This game would have been really awesome if you could make zombie mode where players can explore and survive. They should have added a Chinese Chinese Protaganist. A Chinese protaganist would make this game perfect
i have faith in Rockstar to deliver there best.all the new GTA needs is, gangs to join/create like san andreas did, missions that aint always timed, something you can take time with and not feel rushed, yet some missions like that are not bad but it does get repetitive. as someone else mentioned the combat would be a lot better if it was like 'Sleeping Dogs' as its always been bulky and not much selection in combos etc when playing GTA. graphics im not going complain about as they have always hit nail on the head with graphics on all consoles, so thats nothing for anyone worry about, screens always say it all. be nice to have some extra stuff in free roam as yet again San Andreas did with its gyms, tattoo parlours, that was quite good how you built yourself up, with more customization for the character. but most of all the multiplayer is going be one of the key things on this game due to everyone plays online now and wants more than just the story.
That headline makes me laugh: "Rockstar: GTAV Missions Will Offer Variety"A little bit misleading, I think. :P There's a difference between simply saying the game will "have variety" and focusing on variety in your game design.
1 Like Idk the character models looked amazing in Max Payne 3. Obviously, MP3 doesn't have the scale of GTA, but still my jaw dropped at the visual quality Rockstar was able to produce on my 360. Red Dead was a huge game and also looked great on consoles, I wouldn't doubt Rockstar.
This looks as if it is running on - i7, 16gb ddr3, Gtx 690 water cooled with ICENHANCER installed. or maybe next gen console but never current gen.
lol even with the above spec and Icenhancer it will only run 15fps. Icenhancer is a bitch!!! But a sweet one.

@Velvet-Valentin so the new consoles are arriving spring next year cos this is?? i think you ll find they can render visuals this good, both consoles are in the late stages of their lives, always the way as the developers know the tricks and programming gets easier over time, have a look (if you have either) at some earlier games uncharted series is one good bet, the first was tiny compared to the other two. i ll bet the pc version is soooo good though.
1 Like @itchyflop True. PC versions are usually unrivaled in graphics but what about the Console-only gamers? Wouldn't it be a shame to have a perfect gameplay, a perfect story & a perfect world in a limited graphical range don't you think??

5 Like @Velvet-Valentin By now I think we should expect the actual game graphics to be downgraded from those of the promo trailers. The trailer for Saint's Row III looked mind-blowing graphically, while the game itself, for all its merits, turned out fairly average. To be honest, I don't care: I'm super happy they went for scale and included the greater natural terrain of Los Santos as well. I liked IV as much as anyone, but I missed the wide open terrain of SA. My fav part of that game was just driving from Los Santos to San Fierro in the rain, listening to Willie Nelson singing 'Crazy'. Good times. If this means you can't see the characters' pores, so be it.
1 Like Totally agree with you there. Nothing more fun than a massive open world to explore, graphics be damned! GTAIV looks rather average by today's standards, however it's still an absolute blast to play.
