Volition-developed open-world crime game puts players atop a Stilwater mob in the crosshairs of a global syndicate.
It has been well over two years since Volition confirmed that a third Saints Row game was in development, but all that was known about the game was that it would be markedly different from its predecessors. Gamers eager to return to the crime-ridden streets of Stilwater finally have a few more details, as THQ officially announced the game today, revealing a holiday 2011 release window in the process.
Set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, Saints Row: The Third picks up with the player in control of the Third Street Saints. Once a small-town gang, the Saints have grown to control the organized crime within Stilwater and even have their own brand, with licensed sneakers, energy drinks, and bobbleheads. However, the Saints' success has drawn the attention of the globally powerful Syndicate, a criminal fraternity that insists on a cut of the action in Stilwater.
It's not yet clear how much the gameplay will depart from the series' open-world formula, but THQ is promising "the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen." To that end, THQ core games executive vice president Danny Bilson took a swipe at competition like the Grand Theft Auto series, noting, "There's no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions."
THQ has been vocal about its multimedia plans for Saints Row. In recent years, the company has announced plans for a movie, a 3DS game, and an Xbox Live Arcade tie-in for release alongside the third installment.

I've been a fan from the day when I went to my friends house and saw him playing an awsome game on xbox 360 that is saints row and then I knew i needed an xbox 360 at the time this one game was the reason for me getting the 360. so later in 2009 I gave my 360 to my brother in law so I play ps3 now I luv SR2 so i'm very happy for this Title
I hope they let you choose your fighting style and ihope you can choose from the old ones.Like Samedi fighting style.

I love the saints row series funny and awesome game SR2 was way better than Any GTA game to me and I hope SR3 will be better than SR2 i hope they have tommy guns and I Hope you can dual wield stunguns.

@ BallisstiXXX-i dont remember dressing as a chicken in saints row 2 but i remember breaking into the bike store and using that as the location for a police stand off while wearing a chicken suit in gta liberty city stories...lol. the gta series died as a video game 'on console and pc, not handhelds' after sanandreas 'the best open world crime game in my opinion' and became a movie with shallow gameplay in gta4. also i dont like how niko did his backwards dumbass walk after getting bumped lightly with a moving vehicle untill he tripped on the edge of the sidewalk or a garbage can resulting in the ground cracking the back of his skull 'on second thought that was the only fun part of the game'
theres alot more 2 do in this game then saints row 2 from what i read plus its the only serious/funny open world game & all i gotta say is this is a gurantee buy
I happen to like that "*over the top* crap," it is what made the series so much better than GTA. I like to be able to sit down and just have fun, I don't need all that drama and trying to maintain relations with fake friends. Just give me the B movie feel.
FINALLY!! I love the SR series. It'll never be near the caliber of the GTA series, but it's a fun game to play when you just wanna do stupid things in an open world setting. lol
They need to make the engine better, a lot better. The lighting, framerate, screen tearing and popup in the first 2 were just horrendous. The game itself is great so its a shame it gets hidden underneath technical issues.
Please......PLEEASSEE!!! Make the computer port playable this time around. I can run Crysis and Far Cry 2 on high at a playable framerate, yet Saints Row 2 on high was like 5-10 FPS, had to set it to low to make it playable but it looked downright terrible and still had slow frame rate at certain points. Console version was obviously amazing and admittedly funner then GTA IV, but think of the PC gamers this time around.
SR3 er SR2 was meh too me even tho i like the open world not much too do in it had too add a big mod in SR2 just too keep playing it.If SR3 has the same damn map and not bigger i wont pick it up they would need too pull off a sick GTA:SA map too get alot of people playing, even then GTAIV was crap.
i like how the series doesn't take itself seriously. it's unique in that manner, for an open world game at least (RDR, for example, is a quite serious game...most of the time.)
All fans of this type of open world game, should check out Just Cause 2. JC2 is amazing. Much better than SR2, IMO.

@jcbullen I'll probably buy it either way. I hope they fix the price of car mods though, chrome rims and a paint job shouldn't cost the same as a pair of pants and a shirt.
I love the craziness of Saints Row, and although i was grudging to admit it at first, I had much more fun playing it than I did GTA4. I just hope it's more stable, SR2 was one of the glitchiest games I've ever played, and it's a testament to how fun it was that I didn't drop it like a bad habit after the umpteenth crash.
Hopefully Volition will get rid of all the technical issues this time. Saints Row may be crazy and full of mindless fun, but I found SR2 unplayable at times. The physics, driving mechanics, controls, framerate, etc were really bad at times and prevented me from having the fun I wanted to have with the game. And this isn't a complaint because I care more about gameplay, but it would be nice if SR3 looks like more than an upscaled PS2 game.
I don't want it to be more outlandish, I want improved visuals and customization to actually change the character and gang you are apart of.
Excellent, this is good news. really liked SR2, especially as GTAIV was so disappointingly boring (it was as if they had sucked out all the humour and fun). If SR3 will work upon what SR2 began, then it will be very much looked forwards to.
I hope the character customization comes back in SR3, but with more options for female players... My character was a classy criminal, but in the cutscenes, her gestures and movements were so manly :( The game rocks though - I love the silliness!
Come late 2011 I am going to have to find a way to split my free time between Battlefield 3, Saints Row 3, Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim. Why can't all my decisions be so easy. :D

About time they released some information! SR 2 is still one of my fav games, and I can't wait for the third one. Hope more details come out very soon
If they borrow some elements from Red Faction Saint's Row 3 might actually surpass the first 2 games. What I mean is throw away the stupid radial menu and make the choice of weapons 4 like RF. The craziness of the Saint's Row story is what's fun, I like the characters and the humor but I've never liked how they did weapon inventory.
pc port better be fine this time around. For the record saints row 2 was fun. It reminded me alot of vice city and san andreas, gta iv was BORRING. and by that i am referring to the BORRING gun sound that duty calls has, BORRING!!!
Saint's Row 1/2 was what GTA IV should have been - arcadey and fun. None of that next-gen crap where we need to inject realism into games so the cars can all drive like s***. You know what made GTA a success? A cheat that allowed you to fly a tank around in the air by firing its cannon backwards, goddammit. I want that feeling again.
YAY! I hope they up fun factor without sacrificing too much. SR2 was the perfect blend of stupidity and "story" (meaning merely a reason to keep doing missions; we're not talking Tolkien here folks). I'll probably buy it regardless.
Saints Row 2 was a gem of a game to me, it was some of the most stupid fun ive ever had in a video game :D

I loved the insurance fraud minigame in Saints Row 2, along with the game's rather silly moments. Hope we get to see more of that in SR3.
You can boo me for it, but i preferred the more sincere gangster tone of SR1. I found the wackiness of the second really sucked me out and had little immersion. Some activities were really good, but many i found were boring after the novelty wore off. I would much rather see GTA 4's more serious atmosphere blended with SR1's tone and character.

Man I can't wait for this game I loved Saints Row 2. I kinda like the Saints Row series more so then the Grand Theft Auto series because they incorporate more fun into there games I'm not saying that GTA games aren't fun I do like them very much it's just that Saints Row is always more over the top random mayhem thats what I like about it Grand theft Auto SA was like that but it seems as if they scaled it back for GTA IV which was disappointing. I still need to finish saints Row 2 I'm at the end but I keep getting distracted by doing something random or blowing somebody up lol.
I have they insert more fun! More cheats, more posibilities in adjusting your player and cars, more fun vehicles and weapons and some random funny glitching!
Saints Row 2 was epic. And that's coming from someone who had to play the horrible PC port. Thankfully the Gentlemen of the Row mod fixed most of the really noxious glitches, but that frame rate wasl still atrocious. Here's hoping for an excellent PC port. Modding potential of these games is just too stellar for them to be console only.
