Registration for the Second Annual International Ural Steel Championship is now open; finals to be held in Moscow, Russia.

Update:Wargaming.net made an error stating that the winners were to receive $77,000. Rather, the total prize pot of the finals is $77,000. GameSpot has amended the article to reflect the change.

Wargaming.net, the publishers behind World of Tanks and World of Warplanes, announced that the registration for the International Ural Steel Championship 2012 World of Tanks tournament is now open and will continue until July 31.

The preliminaries will be held on regional World of Tank servers, spanning Southeast Asia, North America, Europe, Russia and China, from August 1 to August 10. The 16 top teams from the aforementioned regions will then compete in the finals set at the Alexander Gomelskiy Universal Sport Hall CSKA Sports Arena in Moscow, Russia on September 15 until September 16. The prize money total for the tournament amounts to $77,000.

The tournament abides by the standard seven versus seven rules of World of Tanks: each team must have a maximum of seven players and are only allowed up to tier 8 vehicles maximum, and each team is allocated only 42 tier points.

Battles will be held within a time limit of 10 minutes. The maps used for the tournament will be Ensk, Himmelsdorf, Ruinberg, Steppes, Prokhorovka, and Lakeville. Whichever team wins two out of five battles in a match is declared the winner.

The first International Ural Steel Championship tournament was held in 2011, and had 40,000 participants from 30 countries. For more information on World of Tanks, check out GameSpot's recent article.

This game's balance system is more shifty than Blizzard patches to WoW. Every patch most QQ tanks get a nerf but then again others become OP. Circle goes on...Infact the most fun you get is when you know you are weak but still manage to kill something... What ? Somebody said Sherman ?  :)

"Whichever team wins two out of five battles in a match is declared the winner." Do you mean three out of five? That would make more sense.

"Whichever team wins two out of five battles in a match is declared the winner." Shouldn't that be three out of five?

Pay to win, shots that rely on RNG, dodgy spotting system. I played it for quite awhile and the elitism and arrogance of the community, especially for such a low skill capped game, was astounding. I can't understand how and why this game is treated competitively.

 @lionfw

Gold rounds are rather expensive and i see them rarely in randoms. Mostly used in clan wars.

Accuracy of gun/distance to target/spaced armor ofcourse there is randomness to it.

And the random games are played with all sorts of people, don't take it out on the entire community.

I agree the spotting system is a bit weird at times but saying there is no "skill" required is just weird also.

More people need to play this game. It's FREE people! The only thing you get with RL $$$ is faster in-game currency accumulation. All the best tanks and equipment etc are obtained from playing and enjoying the game without paying a cent.
