Shadowrun Returns delayed to summer 2013

Harebrained Schemes pushes release date of new game from January 2013 to either May or June due to increased scope.
Shadowrun Returns will be slower to return than originally expected. Developer Harebrained Schemes announced through its Kickstarter page recently that the project has been pushed from a release in January 2013 to either May or June 2013.
Producer Mitch Gitelman said Shadowrun Returns' January 2013 release date "might've worked for the scope of the game we originally envisioned, but as our ambitions (read that 'features list') grew, so did the time we needed to deliver."
Gitelman added that Shadowrun Returns was originally planned with a top-down camera, but that has been swapped out in favor of an isometric point of view. This, according to Gitelman, took serious research and development time."
Shadowrun Returns will be a single-player 2D turn-based role-playing title. Harebrained Schemes is also promising an interactive story, with narrative work provided by a host of experienced Shadowrun authors and designers.
The game was originally targeted for PC and tablets only, but its Kickstarter campaign finished with $1.8 million, which resulted in Linux and Mac versions of Shadowrun Returns.

Give us multi classes and multi skill selections. Customizable guns(eg. tweaking, just make it like the pen and paper.
Awesome hope they do it justice. Closest game that had that feel was the old shadow run on the Sega Genesis.
ya the sega game was awesome, but did you ever play the original fallout games? if you look those have a surprising similiar system.
1 Like damn i love the rpg on snes, it was awesome...best atmosphere. the picture looks like a cartoon...not sure about that.
Im sure that we call agree that in the right hands this will help wash the taste of that shooter for windows live out of our systems and bring the glory of the snes days back!
The franchise is too important to make any mistakes with this release.
The Shadowrun universe is too underrated and needs the right exposure, unlike the Xbox shooter. I hope it succeeds beyond expectations.
1 Like @Judas_III Seriously. With the entire pen and paper game to draw inspiration from, it's really a wonder that not a single Shadowrun game has ever been done justice. The SNES and Genesis games, while good in their own right, didn't hit the sweet spot for me in terms of what I was expecting from it. Let us roll up a custom character with different class choices. Don't just make us play a generic Decker because it's completely unique to that universe. Let me me a mercenary if I want. Also, there should be a ton of weapons and gadgets to use, as per lore.If done right, this could open up the Shadowrun IP for pretty great things. It's a property that practically screams for videogame adaptations, and yet has largely gone untouched by the industry.
@Creature_69 @Judas_III I actually enjoyed the Shadowrun on the 360...I was hoping this was a sequel to that version. :(
@Creature_69 @Judas_III Yeah, I wasn't involved with the past titles. I joined on that X360 shooter and I enjoyed it. But, I do understand your guys love with this franchise and hopefully they make a game you guys enjoy!
@JohnnyShhlong please god no. That wasnt a good shooter and was a terrible intrepretation of the game on several dozen levels.

Well i tought game will be coming in 2013 4th Q so this is an upgrade for me :P They can take their time., slow&steady instead a rushed turd please :)
This is an awesome game but man why does every Kickstarter gaming project had to end up going to mobile devices?

1 Like @MADPADDY @leeko_link no disrespect intended dude!! i never said he did !! i know what you mean though, see my point above why not have it on both pc and "mobile" devices that way you can play anywhere. it will arrive soon, commercial constraints will slow the process down.
@cyberarmy @leeko_link it would be nice though to have it on both !!! why shouldn't you have the best gaming experience on every device ensuring maximum enjoyment !! Obviously some games you cant due to hardware limitation but some.....:)
I didn't even know the original date but if I did then it would have sounded incredibly unlikely anyway, the delayed date is also sooner than I would have expected
holy shit this is the first time hearing of any this! I remember RENTING SNES systems just so I could play this game! Hellz yeah!
I have no problem with delays - better a new classic than a quickly released game. But so many of these Kickstarter projects are *so* ambitious that at least a few are bound to come as disappointments. Molyneux syndrome, if you will. I wonder how long the Kickstarter honeymoon will last if that happens...
Not really news. Mitch and Jordan had already pointed out the likelyhood of this happening in the first dev Q&A video.

1 Like Hmm, I was excited about this project, but didn't realize they'd planned on releasing it that soon. Summer 2013 was sooner then I was expecting. Just bring the awesome and we're good.
1 Like I remember playing the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis versions of shadow run when I was a teenager and loved them. I hope they don't screw a potentially good product up with overindulging their egos under the guise of ?let?s make it better?.

I'm noticing this alot from the various Kickstarter projects I've supported (production delays, that is). So far only the Giana project has delivered, but I still have high hopes of seeing this one released.
4 Like Let's face it. These kickstarter companies are backed by US, not by big, fat pockets publishers. Delays will happen, with a limited and smaller development teams than industry giants you see and read in headlines.
On top of that, these kickstarter developers are very ambitious and keep in mind that they are creating games that the fans really want, and games they would love to play themselves out of pure passion, creativity, and love.
If only some people will understand this.

Understandable, especially with games like this and Project Eternity where they received enough month to add a large area to the game (a second huge city in PE and another country in Shadowrun).

1 Like Fair enough. As long as the money doesn't run dry they should focus on making the best game possible. There is no publisher here though to throw in additional money if they run out, though. That is really the risk of Kickstarter. You estimate the costs of developing the game, but if you underestimate there is no one to bail you out.
1 Like Take your time. Because it's through Kickstarter, you can't afford to screw it up and deliver a half-baked product.
Well damn, we got a serious someback here with Project Eternity, Shadowrun, Wasteland 2 and Baldur's Gate EE.
I'm bracing myself for the ultra-annoying-but-most-likely-inevitable contingency that this is ALSO lacking co-op and multiplayer...We couldn't seriously expect to get a game worth playing anymore...
