Shippin' Out Sept. 25 - Oct. 1: FIFA 12, Pro Evo 12
Footy sims joined on new release shelves by Child of Eden on PS3, X-Men Destiny, and ICO & Shadow of the Colossus HD collection.
Last week's new releases were led by Epic Games' critically praised Gears of War 3. This week's debut slate trades in lancers and blood for green grass and soccer balls. Leading the pack of new releases this week are two soccer simulators: FIFA 12 and Pro Evolution Soccer 12. The final week in September also sees non-sports titles hit shelves, including Child of Eden for the PlayStation 3, the latest Cabela's Big Game Hunter title, a new X-Men game, and two Sony-exclusive bundles.
Charging forward first this week is FIFA 12 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, PSP, Wii, and 3DS. EA Sports has updated the franchise in FIFA 12 with a new Player Impact Engine, as well as new dribbling mechanics in an effort to deliver a more realistic touch on the ball.
Defense has likewise been tweaked, with a greater emphasis being placed on position play and ball interception. The publisher is also introducing the EA Sports Football Club feature, a free service that offers news and updates on the real-world sport.
EA Sports also said that it has updated the game's Career mode. With FIFA 12, players will be able to live out storylines taken from real-world events. Career mode also boasts more than 500 officially licensed clubs.
The other big-name soccer game out this week is Pro Evolution Soccer 12 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game's AI engine has received "a major overhaul," publisher Konami said, with defenders holding tighter lines and attacking players making more intelligent runs.
Switching from the pitch to rail shooting, the PS3 iteration of Child of Eden arrives this Tuesday. Developed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment, Child of Eden was originally released on the Xbox 360 with Kinect support in June. The PS3 version of the game sports features not found in the Xbox 360 iteration, though, like PlayStation Move and 3D support.
Activision kicks off another virtual hunting season this week with the release of Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2012 for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The title has players exploring an expanse of mountains and valleys in search of prey. According to Activision, players will be able to explore regions by climbing or taking the low, concealed route to line up the best possible shot. Further, the game sports dynamic weather conditions, as well as the "most realistic animals ever seen in the Cabela's series."
Gamers looking for a superhero title this week can pick up X-Men Destiny for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, or DS. Developed by Silicon Knights, the beat-'em-up title has players choosing a character, fighting foes, and taking their destiny into their own hands. The game will make use of Hollywood voice talent, with Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls, Heroes), Jamie Chung (The Hangover Part II), and Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights) all contributing voice work.
Those hoping to bundle up can grab the Splinter Cell Trilogy HD and The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection this Tuesday, both exclusively on the PS3. The Ico collection includes developer Team Ico's pair of critically acclaimed PlayStation 2 efforts, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Both games will feature high-definition visuals, 3D support, and trophies.
The Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD includes the 2002 original stealth shooter, as well as Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. All three games have also been updated with high-definition graphics and a stereoscopic 3D view.
