From the trailers and images I've seen, I'm looking forward to the new Banjo game. It may focus more on this new build-a-vehicle concept, but it does still have platform elements in it. As long as the vehicles don't suck and the platforming doesn't get completely scrapped, I'm sold.
Microsoft continues Bringing it Home promotion on first day of X06; more than a dozen trailers and Halo Wars theme, gamerpics also offered.
Entering the second week of its Tokyo Game Show-X06 "Bringing it Home" promotion, Microsoft released a slew of new content on Xbox Live, spearheaded by tie-ins to games announced during the X06 media briefing and a demo for the Sonic the Hedgehog game.
The 314.50MB demo of the Sega speedster's latest adventure went up this morning alongside a trailer for Eidos' upcoming Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. However, once the media briefing got going, those offerings were joined by a new Xbox Live Arcade Doom game, a dozen new trailers, and a new picture pack and theme for the just-announced Halo Wars.
The full list of new trailers on the Xbox Marketplace include looks at Assassin's Creed, Banjo-Kazooie, Bioshock, Blue Dragon, Call of Duty 3, FIFA 07, Halo Wars, Lost Odyssey, Marvel Universe Online, Rainbow Six Vegas, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and Viva Piņata.
Microsoft's Bringing it Home promotion will end this Friday.
HUGELY DISAPPOINTED. The ONLY transportation Banjo needs is Kazooie's ultra fit wings. NOW we're stuck with some 2nd rate racer that would have ZERO chance of success if it were'nt riding on the back of the Banjo-Kazooie name. STRAIGHT CRAP! This absolutely sucks. So everyone, remember the first teaser trailer? RARE made us think it was Banjo 3 for the past 2 years. Now we are slapped square in the face with what they should just call Banjo-Pilot 2. This sucks. Absolutely sucks. HEY RARE, you ever hear of Mario Galaxy? Yeah, that is called nexgen platforming. That's what the new Banjo game should be. I'm not usually one to count chickens before they hatch, but this game is going to pale in to comparison to anything RARE could have done if they stuck to a true platformer. STUPID. Absolutely horribly stupid. What happened? Why did it take this long to make a friggin racer? For one, I am extremely upset. RARE, GIVE US BANJO-THREEIE! RARE, look at the numbers: Banjo-Kazooie Gamespot Score - 9.5 Banjo-Tooie Gamespot Score - 9.6 Banjo-Pilot (a not well known Banjo game) Gamespot Score - 7.2 Ok, are you ready RARE? Here's my prediction of the future. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (RARE should just call it Banjo-Pilot 2) Gamespot Score? - 7.5 Now here's what a majority of gamers wanted. Banjo-Threeie Gamespot Score - 9.5 This is how you can tell the brothers who formed RARE left the company. Obviously they wanted nothing to do with the way things are going. Sucks they couldn't have taken Banjo with them.
BANJO-KAZOOIE FTW!!!!!! ANOTHER KIDDY AIMED GAME I MUST PLAY!!!! no but all caps aside i really cant wait to play it on my 360, such nostalgia reminds me of my precious N64
Even though Sonic games ARE usually "hold right until you get to some water, move left, jump, spring.. then hold right and do the same thing over and over til you get to a boss. Of which, some need you to hold right. With the 3d games, you hold UP. The premise hasnt changed. But what made sonic games so much fun is that (as we mentioned) the physics of controlling sonic is different (its like playing on rails) and you literally have like 10% control of what you do. Megadrive sonic games were challenging in the way that, if you messed up it was because you were crap. I find the 3d sonic games to be ne of the most frustrating games ever made. Because i can get through one part of the level, die, and then do the SAME part.. but die even more than the last time because of the camera and the glitches. SEGA! Stop giving us polished looking crappy games! ;)
Agree totally about the camera, the twitchy controls, the on the rails experience and particularly the homing attack which GrimBee mentioned. The homing attack dumbs down the whole gameplay, it makes attacking enemies far too easy and with regards to the platform element its too far removed from how the original sonics played. I've been playing a lot of the old Megadrive (Genesis) sonic games the last few months as i'm working on the Sonic 2 mobile (cell) port and i worked on the original sonic on mobile (which btw if you have a modern sony ericson is certainly worth buying as it plays great, if you have a motorolla dont even bother). I personally dont think sonic works in 3d at all because of the speed element. Mario 64 worked because mario is a slow-medium paced game with precise jumping and emphasis exploration. Sonic is a FAST paced game, with the emphasis on completing the levels quickly and using your techniques to get passed obstacles, not just double tapping A through out the whole level.
I made a video of the demo, check it out if you want to see someone play it properly. I also comment on some of the changes since the Adventure games. If you're a Sonic fan and/or genuinely interested in the game, I think this'll be of interest.
I dont miss the old games, i got em all (and many copies of the same one infact). I would like sonic to not return to the same old thing.. but its like.. a part of me does... and a prt of me sort of does.. and a part of em sort of doesnt... sort of.. I like the way these 3d sonic games make you feel in a rush of speed (when it gets to the speedy parts.. the demo isnt at that part yet i believe). But i totally hate the platform navigating and the walking around. Its terribly frustrating. The engine is built for running fast, so why stop you doing that?? Especially on Sonic levels! I would love it, if the sonic levels were more concentrating on sheer speed. And if you messed up, you would tumble and lose a bunch of rings and have to deal with the robots in a different way (as they would be more intelligent and use different attacks when you are slow). But its almost as if the 3d games are like - The world made around you is at a stand still (the enemies like.. move in small circles.. or up and down.. or not move at all). The platforms are almost always suspended in the air.. And there are speed ramps to make the levels and jumps LESS challenging.. But then you have this speed character.. in that world... It just doesnt work. The older sonic games had this world you had to navigate through, and they were clearly built for sonic to navigate through. Ramps, loops, shoots, springs etc.. If you failed a ramp attempt, you would roll back down and start over at more speed. But these games are like.. "go forwards, or i will glitch and crash on you!". People always wonder why the 2d games are far better than the 3d games. Its because the gameply has changed. You can basically walk sonic up a sheer cliff type drop in the 3d games. In the older games, you couldnt and you had to spin dash. The only way i can explain it is, the older games are like trying to make it up river by jumping across the rocks.. and the 3d games are like trying to travel downriver.. with the odd rock making you stop and it gets annoying.
Aaron_130 said terrible demo, gonna be terrible game - Sonic should stick to 2D and nothing else. Yeah I think your right its shame it looked good at first.
Not as bad as I figured it would be, but still not Sonic 1 and still not worth 60 bucks. And what's with the cheesy electric guitar noodling? And the princess is scary looking. And ENOUGH with the new hedgehogs. Sonic is FINE.
I get an error after it starts to download that tells me the demo can't be downloaded. Any one else get this?
I see some people are reporting that this demo is an early build, and for that Sega shame on you for not telling us. It has abhorrent controls and Sega should put up a warning for something that is a glaring fault! I do not know anybody plays this game and thinks "Wow jeeze, this is so much fun falling off the side because the camera just moved on me or Sonic sped up out of a dead stop for no reason!" To be honest I don't see why you'd even release something in this sad of shape. This is not going to help sell this game at all, whether Sega did warn about how much gameplay would change or not. First impressions in the videogame world are everything when it's demo'd to your average consumer.
Just to clarify: This demo is from a really early E3 build, and plays nothing like its recent build.
Playing this demo I remembered what I hated from the lasat installments. Awful camera, disastrous control and cheap deaths. Hate to say this, but after playing the demo, I`ll stay away from this game.
The camera angles are really annoying in this demo. The sense of speed is pretty good so far. I just hope they give you more control of the camera.
Im looking forward to a brand new CONKER gme for the 360. Especially with rare at the helm. Wish sega did things like this with sonic, because SPEED is not what sonic is all about. Its controlling that speed. In these videos.. nobody is in control. Ist almost as if sega still has that sony virus in them which affected them with the dreamcast :P
that was terrible. 1minute ill never get back! hardly see games improve from their xbl demo though, take a look at just cause.
guys, have in mind that this demo is like from e3... so it's obsolete... remember the early videos of this, running on a ps3 (if i recall correctly?) i noticed the motion blur is either glitched (seems to be there but it's not, i see a glimpse of it from time to time) or there isn't, and there are slowdowns that kill the gameplay... no need to talk about the camera... i just hope the final build is waaay past this, bugs fixed, graphics/camera and controls improved....
