Sega signs on to publish futuristic fantasy role-playing game, according to Famitsu.
Earlier this month, Star Ocean developer Tri-Ace launched a teaser Web site for its latest multiplatform role-playing game, complete with a countdown timer presumably leading up to the game's reveal. And, with a solid 34 hours and counting left on the clock, scans of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu's multipage blowout for Tri-Ace's new project have surfaced online.
Titled End of Eternity, Tri-Ace's latest RPG is expected to arrive in Japan this winter. (Scans of the announcement were obtained by gaming blog Wii Everyday and translated by GameSpot.) It will be published by Sega for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
According to Famitsu's report, End of Eternity is set in a city in the sky and is populated by a technologically advanced society. The action will follow primary protagonist Zephyr, who, along with his friend Vashyron, finds himself mired in a struggle involving a female known as Test Body No. 20. As the story goes, Test Body No. 20 learns that she is a scientific experiment and escapes from her research facility just before she is to be terminated.
Famitsu's report did not delve too deeply into gameplay, though it did mention that End of Eternity will feature a "semi-real-time battle system."
I just came back from playing Infinite Undiscovery (their previous game) and I am very excited for End of Eternity. But no PC version? Thats a shame :(
I agree MightyMuna. I loved Tri-Ace on the PSX, but their work on the PS2 and current-gen has been mediocre at best. Hopefully they can turn it around with this one, but I'm not making any reservations (though I do have reservations). That was so terrible that it beat funny with a baseball bat.
Tri-Ace sure do have some weird names for their games, Infinite Undiscovery, End of Eternity. None of it makes sense. Also, all their games this gen, have not been that impressive, therefore, I'm not really expecting much from this.
"Till The End Of Time", "End Of Eternity." Hmmm...they like their naming conventions. I wonder If we'll see any cameos?
Oh yeah, I love sci-fi theme RPGs!!!! But Sega?? I thought Tri-Ace is working close with Square-Enix
"(Scans of the announcement were obtained by gaming blog Wii Everyday and translated by GameSpot.) It will be published by Sega for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3." This statement is full of lols.
@_JPH_ Firstly I would like to say that anyone who reads Gamespot articles or views the information within their site should be able to tell that they are usually partial to the Playstation 3. @silencio9285 There is a rule in grammar (can't remember off the top of my head what it's called) that says the "the" trasnfers over after being used for each additional item following the first, as long as there is an and/or. Like saying: I'm going to THE basketball game and ice cream parlor tonight. You see, I don't have to use "the" again because I've already used it and it carries over for any additional items..... Other than that, I have to say that JPH definitely over reacted and I'm sure you have been reported for your bigotry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MathiasX You have no clue what your talking about. Turn based? It might end up turn based but based on most Tri-Ace games, It's safe to assume it wont be. Since Tri-Ace has been making action oriented games rather then turn based ones.
Bleh, stupid news. I have always hated turn based japanese gaming crap...im sure this will be no different.
Woot, finally a multiplat JRPG so we shouldnt have to read all the, is this game going to the other console posts!
@da1writer: Although I agree with you about there not being enough JRPGs for the PS3... Square-Enix is by far not the only JRPG developer out there. And although I'm briefly considering getting FFXIII, I'd rather see some RPGs on the PS3 from publishers like Atlus, whose games I enjoy a lot more than Squenix, lately.
Da1writer square is not giving ps3 the bird they are taking their time to make the best possible games they can. Would you rather them rush a horrible game or take their time and make an amazing game?
@ BtmnHatesRbn: ...and PS3? Seriously, there has been no JRPG love on the PS3 beside Valkyria Chronicles and Eternal Sonata... and those aren't even from Square Enix. Nintendo and Microsoft have been getting some snuggle time with Square Enix while Sony's PS3 gets the bird. I'm of course just stating the obvious, not upset or anything. It's good that All consoles will be getting some games from Square Enix (eventually).
did anyone else notice how in the second paragraph they called it the xbox 360 but couldn't bother to call it the playstation 3. biased much gosh
