[UPDATE] Sony Facebook page reveals possible launch window for LucasArts' upcoming third-person action game; page removed, company responds.
[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, the post on the Sony German PlayStation Facebook account was removed. In addition, LucasArts provided a statement to Kotaku saying, "No, that was an inaccurate post. We have not confirmed any platforms yet for 1313 and do not have any announcements to make at this time."
The original story follows below
LucasArts has made no mention of a release date or platform availability for Star Wars: 1313 since it announced the game in May 2012.
Star Wars: 1313 was first announced in May 2012. The internally developed third-person action adventure game will see players take on the role of a bounty hunter navigating a subterranean metropolis, Level 1313, beneath the surface of the planet Coruscant.
The game is being developed with the help of artists across the Lucasfilm organization, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd, and Skywalker Sound. The game will be based on the Unreal engine and feature full-body performance capture.
Star Wars: 1313 may not be the only new Star Wars game on the horizon. A listing for an Xbox Live Arcade game Star Wars: First Assault appeared last year. This project has not been formally announced.
Oh Man, They cancel the Battlefront games, no Xwing Reboot, No Republic Commando 2, no Empire at War 2, no Episode 1: Racer: Reboot, meanwhile, Chris Roberts is bringing Star Citizen, a Wing Commander Spiritual Succesor, Sony just brought out Planetside 2, Piranha games with Mechwarrior Online are reviving the franchise, Crytek are working on Warface, a scifi shooter, Strike Suit Zero just came out... so, no hint seen here, Lucasarts? really? way to go guys...
@lt_kijiI know. Me too. Battlefront 3, Rogue Squadron 4, Republic Commando 2, KOTOR 3, a new Dark Forces, X-wing, TIE Fighter, Empire at War, Racer, etc. With such a rich, lucrative source material to pull from like Star Wars, and having so many popular franchises for it, it makes one wonder what the heck is wrong with LucasArts that they can't give us the superb games we want anymore. Hell, even full-on, upgraded remakes of their classics would sell ridiculously well. *sigh* They just aren't the same company I grew up with.
interesting regardless. I think this would make a nice game to play at Christmas. John Williams'esque sountracks and blasters are always a staple for that time of year
screw this I wan't a new Rogue Squadron or a X-wing/TIE fighter game, or a new game like the Dark Forces games, or a KOTOR like RPG set after the original trilogy, might as well make a TES game equivalent......
Well, what Star Wars games usually do, is copying elements from other games into the Star Wars universe. From what i've seen, the battles look like a combination of Uncharted and Mass Effect... If this turns to be more than enough, then I guess we will have another 7/10 game, that will be bought mostly by fans os SW...
I want to like this game; I really do. However, I suspect that will either be some linear, cutscene-infested shoot-em-up, or an open-world fetch quest exravaganza. I could be wrong; in fact, I hope I'm wrong. I'm keeping an eye on it, but I'm also keeping my hope in check.
this is going to be a next gen title and everyone knows it. the fact that they are refusing to announce platforms is blatant proof.
You know what I what to see come out for me any way is KOTOR 3, Battlefront 3, Republic Commando 2 or a HD remake of the first one and for me cause I do like this one series is another Force Unleashed game.
YES!!! This is super exciting! StarWars needs another great game! There hasn't been a good Star Wars action game since Republic Commando.
Cant say i'm not relieved to see LucasArts acting quickly to quell any rumors stating that 1313 isn't next-gen!
I am hoping that this Star Wars game will have the grit that Bounty Hunter did, with hopefully an open world environment(s) to explore.
Star wars games used to be really good, but this gen they haven't been as great. Hopefully this is a step back in the right direction.
@Glaxton Plenty of titles in the past have been shifted to later generation consoles. It's not a new phenomenon if they do.
I think this would make a great must have launch title for the new generation. I hope it comes out for the current gen, but I think it would be one heck of a system seller.
Doesn't it have to release this year? Next Gen consoles will be out before the end of this year and 1313 was meant to push the limits of current gen consoles.
I definitely think this will be a next-gen title. Demoed on PC, no launch window when new consoles are coming soon. It all lines up.
I'm so happy they're finally making another Star Wars game where you're not an over-powered Jedi killing countless Troopers.. I have hopes for this game, high hopes.
i see what there doing. Most likely there will be a ps3 version first and then a ps4 version next year with updated graphics and all the dlc.
next gen game?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with this graphic?!! dude if it will be one the next gen games then next gen is not wat they say it is
@sev2010 But it does state that there is actually no quantum leap in visuals - and this was said so often now and I really hope people do start recognizing this.
@sev2010 (trollmode on)
I don't know... everything about this game just seems to be something taken from another game and just repainted with Star Wars. The crashing escort looks and feels just like Uncharted 3's (a scene which at first wowed me but now in this game seems stale and lacking) . All the combat/corridors feels awfully Mass Effect-like. And the world of 1313 itself just looks like a sci-fi GTA / Sleeping Dogs . It's like the team at LucasArts just went ''Hey , we think we're behind on things so let's go for an M/18+ rating , and recycle a bunch of ideas that were good in other modern games to make ours modern too!'' . Maybe I'm just missing something or haven't seen a crucial new gameplay difference yet , and I hope so.
@moviequest14 Uncharted 3 mixed with Mass Effect/GTA/Sleeping dogs with Star Wars repaint sounds like the best game ever, are you crazy?
@moviequest14 In fact, Uncharted one was one of the games said to do almost nothing new (gameplay wise), but redefined the genre by putting all the good things from other games into one game.
@moviequest14 Just because a game takes tricks from another game doesn't mean it's automatically a mediocre game. There are many, many fantastic games that have been rehashed and slenderly tweaked of earlier games that have come before.
This is the kind of thing I want out of Star Wars, or at least from what I saw of the game play video shown before. I think right now you're expressing your detestation to those games that are unoriginal, but soon you'll think otherwise and be excited again.
Think about it, out of all the games you play now, couldn't you take an aspect and see what other games that's been in? You may be saying this is surely apparent, but then again, if you're going to take something off another, you should probably take it off some of the games you've mentioned.
@NTM23 I agree with you completely about that. But the thing is , there have been series before like Uncharted itself even , that have taken other aspects of other games and refined them. But would you say there is ANY game that is like Uncharted? Even though Uncharted has taken cues from Tomb Raider and the like it is entirely it's own in the magnificent massive action scenes , movie-like presentation. But with 1313 they just took the same ''falling out of plane'' scene out of games like Uncharted , made it in space and expected us to be shocked and impressed like we've never seen it before and , I hate to sound like the typical cynical gamer , but I wasn't impressed , it still felt like the same scene I'd played and watched 30,000 times in the Uncharted trailer
Star Wars games on their own are a great example of your point. Games like Battlefront and Jedi Knight II closely follow other games but the difference here is that they only took the concept , and then they did add their ''Star Wars'' coat of paint on it , but they made it entirely unique. Looking at the trailer (and I have multiple times) I can't find a single thing that's entirely new to the game , I've seen ALL of it before. And while I'm as big of a Star Wars fan as the next guy , I'm not going to sink $60 down and spend 10+ hours to play scenes from other games with slight tweaks , that feel stale in comparison. If you look forward to the game , by all means I'm happy for you , but it just seems they're trying too hard to become ''the modern game'' when the thing I loved about their games for so long was how they weren't , but instead stood on their own.
@NTM23 @moviequest14 I think what he means is that what makes a game a great beginning IP is an obvious distinction between itself and the games around it. Maybe it's graphics, story, gameplay, characters, what have you, but you can't create a new IP entirely off of old ideas, otherwise people will feel more inclined to buy whatever it is ripping off of because those IPs have been around longer.
It's going to need something slightly different so people will see something to buy there. After that, its a matter of giving itself some steam for exploration of different mechanics in any future iterations. In this case, I'm going for character, story, and setting. Showing a facet of Star Wars that people don't see often could be very interesting.
many games that are released in a quick time usually are short in story and many aspects, but hey maybe im wrong
