Source says unannounced game supports up to 16 players, could be a lead-in to Battlefront III; fate uncertain following Disney buyout.
Star Wars: First Assault, which emerged last October, is a downloadable multiplayer shooter. That's according to a Kotaku source, who told the site the unannounced game was originally pegged to be released this spring, but is now in limbo following Disney's high-profile acquisition of the Star Wars franchise last year.
According to the source, LucasArts parent company LucasFilm suspended all hiring and game announcements when it caught wind that Disney would take over the brand. First Assault was reportedly going to be announced in September, with a beta to follow by the end of the month and a full release sometime this spring.
LucasArts is now reportedly "bleeding talent" as developers wait to determine the fate of First Assault, as well as the potentially stalled Star Wars 1313.
As for First Assault, Kotaku's source claims it supports 16 players: a team of eight stormtroopers and a second team of eight rebels. Battles are said to take place in places like Bespin and Tatooine.
First Assault is also reportedly "step zero" to Star Wars: Battlefront III, a test of sorts for Star Wars shooter games that run on the Unreal Engine. If the game is successful, it could lead to the release of the long-in-development--and heavily debated--Battlefront III.
A LucasArts representative was not immediately available to comment.

Common Lucasarts, bring these games (star wars 1313, first assault) to the fans. You're not making any money cancelling Lucasarts. I get you cancelled it for support and security, but like seriously, keep stuff like this up, and you won't last long with funds.
I'm ok with this. As long as it might hint at republic commando 2. Just hate how the clone wars took a complete dump on the republic commando EU stuff.

anyone else think this game is gonna get canned? Lucas arts has a habit of taking great ideas and either completely getting rid of them or putting them through the wringer so many times it barley resembles the original idea.
The big question is, will there be bots?
It's one of the things that made SWBF a console legend was the fact that we could play with relatively intelligent AI.

Please make battlefront3 ! oh please,please, please. Battlefront2 was amazing, i remember how much fun me and my buddies had with that game. Battlefront3 for next gen would seriously encourage to me buy next-gen console. I many people demands it, maybe people who wants it should make some sorta petition....
5 Like 2014: Battlefront 3, building on Battlefront 2. 4 player split-screen. Game modes of up to 100 players online including optional bots. Massive multiplayer and single player space battles. More vehicles, guns and classes (including special classes). Single player mode with coop. Massive single player, coop and competitive drop in/out galactic conquest mode.

3 Like Battlefront 3 would have been perfect for this generation, such a wasted opportunity. Hopefully we can look forward to it in this coming generation.

will this differ (other than the obvious star wars feature) to the FPS 's of today?? Is there enough to keep this fresh ?? I must admit i did like bfront series.

Don't be silly guys, I'm quite sure that they already have plans for battlefront 3 anyway. This is just a ploy to draw in BF fans to increase sales for this game, which probably sucks.
We can only hope they release a Battlefront 3. Love space battles boarding each others ships.
@punkpunker I would love for them to make another Republic Commando. That and the Battlefront games were the best in my opinion.

One thing you have to give COD credit for is their matchmaking. It is easy to form a party, and to find games in a category that you want to play. If it is going to be 8 on 8, then they will steal from COD. They meed to make it 50 on 50, combine Battlefield and Tribes, give it the matchmaking and party system from COD, and give us dedicated servers. You could have the greatest FPS ever created. However, we all know they will make it a cheap knockoff of COD, with terrible matchmaking.

@cfstar First thing I thought too- just another COD ripoff. This is NOT what I want BF3 to be. I swear that one series has just about ruined the entire industry. Always popping its ugly head up everywhere. Just go away already.

3 Like I love how everyone is so worried about what Disney will do to "ruin" star wars. As if they could possibly do anything worse to this series than Lucas has already done to it. Or has everyone already forgotten what a travesty episodes 1-3 were? Episode 3 was the only watchable one and that isn't saying much at all. And lets not forget Disney was responsible for the stellar Avengers movie we were treated to not long ago. As far as the games themselves go, yeah there are gonna be some hiccups for a little bit, but things will be smoothed over with time.
