@neuroboy Wow, I'm incredibly embarrassed right now. I'm sorry about that. I posted that at 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning and probably too s*** tired to see the irony in your words. Forgive me for that. Peace, bro.
Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida says development has been "tough" on Team Ico's action game.
It wouldn't be without reason for gamers to be worried about the fate of The Last Guardian. Sony has spoken little of the title throughout its multiyear development, and the game has lost its executive producer. However, the title is still on and "making progress," a Sony representative has confirmed.
Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida told 1Up this week that The Last Guardian is making progress, albeit "slow progress." He said development on the title has been "tough" but noted that developer Team Ico has not altered the focus on the title.
"It's still a really important project and a vision we want to see realized, and [Fumito Ueda's] vision is really causing a very difficult challenge for the developers, so there's some scrapping and rebuilding…iteration in the process. That's why [it's taking so long]."
In November, word spread that Ueda had left Sony in full, staying attached to The Last Guardian on a contractor basis. Yoshida confirmed that move to 1Up, but he also noted that Ueda was also tirelessly working on the project.
"He comes in every day, and he's probably one of the people who works the longest hours," he said.
Formally announced at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, The Last Guardian tells a boy-and-his-dog tale, where the dog is a giant and feathered, yet seemingly amiable, beast. Team Ico has not been forthcoming with specific plot details, but gameplay will involve the boy manipulating his companion to navigate a variety of environmental puzzles.
@MGS_fan_2015 Words cannot quantify how incredibly sarcastic I was being, in response to the previous post by buying1999. It seems that even completely obvious irony is lost on some people. ;)
@neuroboy You do know that the same people who did Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are working on The Last Guardian, right? Words cannot quantify how incredibly stupid you sound in your post.
If this becomes a PS4 exclusive, I'm going to be ANGRY! This game is the SOLE REASON I bought a PS3. If they don't release it soon there's going to be HELL TO PAY! I mean, my PS3 has just sat there, being useless, doing nothing but play really RUBBISH EXCLUSIVES like Metal Gear Solid, Resistance, Uncharted, Killzone, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, Flower etc etc.... And lets not forget that pointless fob-off cash-in HD remake of those RIDICULOUSLY OVERATED games Ico & Shadow Of the Colossus that no-one if there RIGHT MINDS would ever have done anything insane like buying a PS2 just to play... What a waste of £250 its turned out to be, just sitting there for 2 years, sending me to sleep with UTTER GARBAGE streaming media from the likes of Lovefilm and Mobi and BBC iPlayer and 4OD and and and and.... . "The Wii is the third BEST console EVER, after the Atari 2600 and the really trippy one they used in The Lawnmower Man" --Derek Smart
@neuroboy If MGS4 is rubbish to you I don't see how anything can please you... ever.
@wgerardi Er... I was being extremely ironic, as a response to the previous post by buying1999. Sorry you didn't see the joke - you weren't the only one! I love MGS4, and all the other PS3 exclusives, and the Blu-Ray player, and everything else about it... would never part with it, even if I've gone back to my PC for the majority of non-exclusives gaming.
Slow going. Well what do you expect? They're trying to get this Epic Scale game to run on an over priced internet ready blu ray player for crying out loud. I mean the development team have been leaving like rats jumping from a sinking ship and frankly I don't blame them. This was the game that I bought my over priced internet ready blu ray player. Really over priced. Now it only gets used to play netflix and blu ray movies. Exclusive software comes out too infrequently and 99% of multi console released games are better on the SUPERIOR Xbox 360. But hey, ps3 puts out good video quality. "Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made." --John Carmack
The way I see it there's a LOT of interest out there in the world. And Sony are going to be backing it with everything they've got. Take your time I say, and make it brilliant :)
@Death_Blade_182 What are you talking about, Gears was a new take (or at least the best implemention of cover) out during it's initial launch and it did vary up slightly within the 3 games. The second game was awful but Gears 3 did have the submarine scenes and other parts, it isn't a revolutionary game in diversity but it beat Uncharted on how much it changed by some way. Halo on the other hand is quite a brilliant example of diversity, Halo 1 was it's debut title (can't be counted) Halo 2 added multiplayer and dual wielding, Halo 3 added equipment, Halo ODST was a completely different style singleplayer with new elements like the night vision and voice recordings, Halo reach then added the biggest change yet with armour abilities which drastically change how the game plays both balance wise, equipment wise, weapon choices in relation to your armour abilities and how you fight in multiplayer. I mean what did Uncharted add to change it's gameplay? Halo has consistently stayed ahead of most console games on features too with features like Forge and video recordings which most games just followed on. It was on PC's first of course but it's a good addition. To try and count Halo as a generic title with Uncharted or COD is just plain wrong. Oh wait you wouldn't ever call Uncharted generic despite never changing, my bad. Oh and yes, the first Halo and the first Gears for that matter WERE both revered for having good level design smart mechanics etc. Uncharted followed in there wake and never did it's own thing that really differentiated it whereas Halo did the limited weaponry, colourful and story driven sci-fi FPS universe etc. Gears at least had it's cover mechanic and was the first game to do a Hoard mode so it did have some originality too. I forget, where did Uncharted show any?
@TangoGamer I do agree really, there is vision from ueda but if the game is going to be about 8 or 10 hours long then I can't understand how it would take so long to see such a vision realised. I don't know what his 'vision' is though and it could be scale / numbers and then cause technical issues or be limited but overall there should be some realistic way of toning down that vision to realistic levels. I am hopeful it will come out and be good but I think a lot of people were jumping the gun not long ago and claiming it would be epic before it even released. Still we can only wait and see.
rat chicken dog bird (did i get it all)....wtf.....no wonder they are scrapping n rebuilding cuz of dudes vision look wtf he is visioning lol. what he just wake up one day n say hey sony i wanna make a game wit a rat chicken dog bird all in one, what do you think ? sony exes: Riiidddddggggeee RRRRRaaaacccceeerrr ! you know they hittin the pipe over there now lol
What does this have to do with duke nukem!? and whats the point of throwing 360 and Wii into the comments?? I own all 3 systems and their all great with their own respective games that just can't be justified unless you experience them yourselves. I just hope this gets finished, even if it doesn't come out to NA I'd still import it. It's games like these that make it unique, unique games that separate good gamesfrom great games, and regardless of all the speculations, I expect this one to be a great one.
if the game was a 50 hour one, it is ok to, wait for it, take a long time. but if it is an 8 hour game, it isn't logical to take 4(or more) years to complete, neither to wait for...........
It sounds like they are holding on to it. That's good. It's ready when it's ready and I'll be buying.
@ thahpieman127 Well you should have said some ps3 exclusives not almost all. From what you're saying it seems that most of them are not extremely linear/not challenging/overrated.
I'd rather have this game late than not at all. It was this game's trailer that finally convinced me to buy a ps3 for all those awesome exclusives.
@Np_Pro while I didn;t like SoTC due to it being so short, I agree this game needs more hype and publicity, then maybe Sony will actually work to release it some time this century. Who knows, maybe it'll turn into a ps4 launch title?
Whats worrying to me, given that I would probably list both ICO and SotC in my Top 5 games off all time, is that I keep FORGETTING that Last Guardian exists. I should care much more. I feel like I'm resigned to this game being a disappointment...and then, if they really pull it together, I get to be happily surprised.
you think about the devs grueling hours, sweating over their desks as they make this game and try to figure out how to fix any problems they come up with. long discussions, long hours, little sleep. years of hard work. lots of coffee. problems at home from being distant and too involved in work. then you think about the dev offices of MW3, a bunch of people casually pressing Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V for six months, with their legs up on their desks laughing.
Not a fan of the series, but good friends enjoy the games. Still looking forward to seeing what they came up with.
@ dylan417 I was thinking the same thing, but then it hit me.. Why not have this and Final Fantasy Versus XIII be released closely after the Ps4 launch, all they would have to do then is update the engine because it would still look better than last gen games regardless.
As long as it comes out one day a finished GOOD product then they can take all the time they need and want. Though it'd be a damn shame if they went bankrupt or the title collapsed.
Am I the only one thinking flop financial? I mean some of the big titles cost a few hundred million to make, but make a billion. This one seems to be racking up bills, and even on the best of days ICO/Shadow are niche section of fans, and can't see this having superb sales.
Whats with the couple wii fans saying that xbox/ps3 games are made way to easy, and are hand-holding?? While i agree, games have become very passable this gen, isn't it the wii who has multiple, can't fail games? games that include a feature that will pass levels for you if you die to much? I don't recall any such feature on xbox/ps3. - I would prefer them not rush the game, but when constant re-making/re-doing happens, sometimes the end result is anything but perfect. Finishing a game, and polishing it is different, when you complete a game and go back and start redoing parts and not others, the game (sometimes) loses its "feel" or "flow". These devs are talented enough I believe they will not fall into this trap, but it is still a risk.
@PixelAddict Certainly in my top ten games I've ever played. Loved Dark Souls too but there's just something Demon's Souls had that Dark Souls doesn't, both mighty fine games though.
as long as the original producer still has his hands in it. if he left and some other person took over it could be a disaster. still, this game is turning into duke nukem.
This is a wait that is well worth it. I just hope we can perhaps get a new trailer at E3 this year. A very slim chance, but it would be nice.
@mjc0961 Uncharted 3 and potentially Infamous granted but the others? Modnation and Demon's Souls overrated? Neither particularly touched the masses in-terms of sales, if anything they're underrated. Neither did Resistance 3 for that matter.
Look at it this way, at least it's progress and Ueda is still involved. As long as it does eventually release this generation, I'm not too bothered when it does. Something to look forward to anyway.
