Publisher reports 68 percent jump in revenue for July through September, attributes gains to Saints Row, Company of Heroes, and Cars.
Much like Electronic Arts did yesterday, THQ today reported record results for its second quarter of the fiscal year. But where EA's profits were down, THQ also posted a new high in earnings for the three months ended September 30, 2006.
Crediting strong sales of the open-world Grand Theft Auto-inspired Xbox 360 game Saints Row and the PC real-time strategy game Company of Heroes, THQ reported a 68 percent jump in revenue to $240.2 million from $142.7 million. Continued sales of Disney-Pixar's Cars were also cited as a main factor in the gains.
The publisher also netted $12.6 million in profit, a significant turnaround from the $1.4 million the company lost in the same quarter last year. For that quarter, its big sellers included Destroy All Humans!, Juiced, and Day of Reckoning 2.
After the company announced its earnings, CEO Brian Farrell praised the success of Saints Row and Company of Heroes to investors and analysts in a conference call. THQ owns the intellectual properties on which those games are based, and Farrell said the company plans "to leverage and extend those brands for many years to come."
Saint's Row kicked ass, they need to come out with another one now with a bigger world, and more vehicular options such as planes/helicopters and boats. Awesome graphics, big improvement over GTA, and gameplay was pretty awesome too.
THQ is getting as bad as EA with making crap games and re-hashing games like WWE. That WWE game is the same sh*t every year yet people keep re-buying it.
no doubt cars was one of there best selling games this year i've lt like 3 or 4 times in uk charts...
Yeah THQ roxorz your soxorz...lol I just hope they don't turn into a mutant form of EA and buy everything thats out there...DIE EA!!!
Good on THQ.. hopefully the map editor will be released for COH soon so we can start making maps and movies.
Why do you think I care about a company that published CoH? This has nothing to do with CoH (which I'm tracking).. You people at GS need to change some stuff and stop telling me there's an update ready when infact there's not - I clicked the update link, thinking an UPDATE to CoH was issued, only to see some news about THQ... Get a grip GS.
It did publish some really good games including Company of Hero's and Supreme Commander is around the corner.... Should be more then a Spike of Sales.
This is good news and another reason why we should continue to buy/support these types of games when there good like Saints Row & Company of Heroes so we can see more of it's like.
Aaron 130 I agree its only gonna get better when Smackdown comes out plus you gotta think the holidays are here so people are gonna be picking up bundles with Saints Row and Smackdown. They did Cars TOO!??! Didn't know well I c why then that game was stuck to the charts like poo on a diaper.
man...sequels for years to come, well, hopefully they won't drive it to death with incremental changes...what am I talking about, of course they will.
THQ deserve to do well, Saints Row is excellent and my dad enjoys Company Of Heroes, Smackdown Vs Raw 07 should be awesome too.
Company of Heroes Kicks A$$!!!! Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy, even if you're sick of WW2 games.
That dam cars i think every child and chav in the uk has a copy its been on the charts for weeks and weeks.
Saints Row is an excellent game that is very fun. Everyone with an Xbox 360 should make sure to give Saints Row a try.
