Earth's Mightiest Heroes could be returning to games as publisher's name surfaces in domain name registration for avengersbattleforearth.com.
Ubisoft may be looking to capitalize on the recently released Marvel film The Avengers, according to a domain name spotted by Fusible this week.
The site reported that the domain name "avengersbattleforearth.com" was registered on May 3, 2012 (a day before the film's release in the United States), through the brand-protection company MarkMonitor. The domain name was registered by Marvel Characters Inc. but is currently listed on Ubisoft servers.
Speculation of a video game adaptation of Marvel's The Avengers began with the news last September that THQ's now-defunct studio, THQ Studio Australia, had been working on an unannounced game based on the Joss Whedon film.
Marvel later announced that it had taken back the rights to the game, based on its Avengers intellectual property, and would be "exploring potential publishing and licensing opportunities."
As far as video game outings go, the Avengers have previously been featured in 1996's Data East arcade fighter Avengers: Galactic Storm, as well as the 1991 arcade beat-'em-up Captain America and the Avengers, which received a number of console ports in the following years. Individually, the main characters of the Joss Whedon film--Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, and Iron Man--have all starred in their own feature films and accompanying game adaptations in recent years.
However, the only confirmed video game based on Whedon's The Avengers is Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita. The downloadable content for the Xbox 360's Pinball FX 2 and the PS3's Marvel Pinball features a four-pack of new pinball tables and a virtual machine based on the film. It will be released this spring.

I think it would be more surprising if there [u]wasn't[/u] a videogame tie in with a blockbuster action movie these days. It's mildly surprising that it wasn't ready to go on the date of the movie launch (and that delay may be why they revoked the license anyway).

If history is to be believed, then this game is going to be hyped and horrible.
On another board they are talking about the publishers banning used games on the next-gen consoles.....games like this should be banned on current consoles.
Game will fail with that many main charcters, what i want is the studio that made the Batman games to make a Iron Man game there is a lot of potential there.
I just hope its not based on any movie tie-in. Still havent beaten Captain America and the Avengers by the way. That game was hard.

Given the relatively late surfacing of this game, I'm guessing this'll be a quick mobile or social game just to get on the band wagon. I really wish THQ's game was still coming out. It struck me as different enough that it might actually have been good.
I hope there's kinect support dancing and voice commands. Yelling "hulk smash" at the TV should do something...smash? Yet another game trying to sell its name. We saw the movie, take the avengers and do a new story...
2 Like This film is very well loved. I hope Ubisoft knows what they are getting into because if they make a quick, cash- grab game, the back-lash will be fierce. And Ubisoft has done nothing with this current gen of consoles to make me believe that they are either capable or willing.
1 Like The reason Batman Arkham City/ Asylum did so good ( Ubisoft and Marvel can take ideas from this ) is because the game wasnt related / tie in to any Batman movie at the time of its release. The devs delved into what makes the characters ( Characters in Avengers) unique and created levels,gadgets,gameplay based on that character. Also getting top notch voice acting, Paul Dini to write the story, chalk full of fan service,cool villians, etc etc . Made the game so good. If Ubisoft have the same dedication Rocksteady had when making these games they too can have an awesome Avengers game.

The problem with many games based on movies is that they try to simply recapture events from the movie. The better games tend to be those that deviate, and offer a lot more different content taken from the wider 'universe'.

Hulk was decent in MUA but really when you also have Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and tons of others, it isnt that big a deal.
It would be very simple. Make an 'Ultimate Alliance' type of game with a 3-rd person action/beat-em up with all the avengers in a 4 player co-op. Each with pro/cons. Though it would be funny that people rage quit if they dont get first to pick hulk.

1 Like I have an idea, how about we DON'T make a crappy video game out of every single Blockbuster and oh, I don't know, try to make something original. The only games based off of movies worth playing are Star Wars ones, and even that's been shaken recently with Star Wars Kinect. It's a sad and desperate move when you have to cling to the fame of another work of art in order to get sales. They had better make it at least interesting and different from the movie otherwise they may as well just convert the film to a file playable on consoles and resell that at twice the cost of a DVD/Blu-Ray...oh no wait, that's probably what they will do
Hopefully without the rush to make this game in time for the movie release, since it's already out, they'll take their time to make it right

But generally speaking, other than their main franchises (AC, Splinter Cell, Rayman), Ubisoft usually makes pretty bad games. I'd rather avoid this one.
I read a reprint of Avengers #1 the other day. Let's just say comics have come a long way since then :)
