UK game charts: August 13-19
A good week for EA and the DS; a bad week for anyone looking for excitement from their games chart.
As the summer rolls on, the UK all-format game chart has something eerily familiar about it--the solitary title in the top 20 that wasn't there last week is Lego Star Wars, which climbed nine places to scrape in at number 20.
Moving to the head of the class, the top three for the week of August 13 to 19 are the very same as last week, the week before, and if you can believe it, the week before that. Cars, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, and New Super Mario Bros. still lead the pack.
The only two games to break into the top 10 this week are perennial favourites FIFA 06, EA's fourth title that charted (coming in at 10), and Animal Crossing: Wild World, one of three DS exclusives on the chart, at number nine. Those entries rose from positions 15 and 16, respectively.
Despite its release some five years ago, The Sims is still in the top 10--buoyed by price cuts at major UK retailers no doubt--but it does slip four places to number eight. This drop puts its sequel, The Sims 2, above it in the fourth slot, two years after that title's original release.
The chart is rounded off by Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which climbs one place to seven, Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, which falls one to six, and Pro Evolution Soccer 5, which marked the start of the Premiership season by jumping up two places to five.
