Web-based PS Store launching this month - Report

Following international launch, Sony rep says plans in place to release browser version of virtual marketplace in U.S. by the end of the month.
Sony is planning to launch a Web-based browser version of its PlayStation Store in the United States later this month. That's according to a Sony Network Entertainment COO Shawn Layden, who told GameSpot sister site CNET that the virtual marketplace will eventually allow users to buy a game in-browser and have that content delivered automatically to the PlayStation 3.
The platform launched in Europe and 15 other countries last month. Competitor Microsoft has offered a similar service through Xbox.com since November 2008.
Layden further revealed that the recent PlayStation Store redesign for PS3, which went live in October, led to a double-digit growth in the United States and Europe. It was not mentioned how "growth" was to be interpreted in this instance. In addition, he said users are spending more time browsing for titles and applications in the marketplace than prior to the redesign.

It's so stupid to have to browse and buy through the cumbersome ps3 store when other services had had web based functionality for years. Don't know why it took so long to incorporate.
Europe has had the web based store for a few weeks now... I have to say, it's a sh*t ton better than trying to browse the store on my PS3. I'll definitely be making all of my purchases from there from now on.
it should have been existing already. Playstation's web site(sony) is such a mess and a pain to surf through. I can't believe no one had that idea before. This is some really poor marketing right there. Kudo for your incompetence.
About damn time. Microsoft have it's system working for quite some time now, I bought several items there and it's easy to use.

And he things that is a GOOD thing? It's just because the store NOW loads FOREVER and you need a thousand clicks until you are where you want to be, not to mention loading times BETWEEN every click.
Man, Sony STILL hasn't realized what utterly fail the redesign is?
1 Like @Justforvisit Agreed. A fancy design is the flat-out WORST thing every store could do. We need something fast and light. Simple. Not flashy and heavy. It's a pain to use PSN really...
finally a step in the right direction for PSN, now if we can just get them to allow name changes, and the ability to upgrade sub accounts to masters, PSN can finally stop being so far behind
I am excited for this because I can check the sales and PSN+ content without needing to turn on my PS3.
@Toysoldier34lol you can already do that just go here %s they post the store updates every week on it including PS+ and they even post stuff that is coming to PS+ for an example I know about the megaman games being free for PS+ weeks before
If it's the same as the one we're using in the UK, then it will save your lives, America.
It's almost identical to the console store, only the search function is a lot better.

Not sure why they had to update the store. The old format was better.

I felt they did a better job than Microsoft with regards to the redesign Store pages, I have a harder time finding things on Live then on the PSN now days.

Bout time. I hated relying on just the blog to get game updates. Actually I love PS Blog but I just can't stand thinking... Hmmm is this on PSN and there be no way of checking until I get a PS3 in front of me.
I prefer to buy downloadable games online... I'm one of those guys.

LOL, Sony, people are spending more time in your store because they can't find anything with your crappy new design. Plus, it's slow and laggy.
...this was one of the things I noticed my Xbox did better when I got a PS3, glad it'll be fixed... anyone know how to make games install automatically after download ?
ppl are exaggerating the ps3 store isnt that bad..at first i didnt like it but its actually easier to find what u want..ppl these days want everything fast and qucik
@marting265 The only thing I don't like about the new store is how big items are displayed and how little you see at a time. Like when I browse the new free PSN+ games I can only see 6 at a time with half the screen taken up by their PSN+ logo.
@marting265 Well it's basically one of those they changed it to a lot worse design rather than improving it. I had no problem and enjoyed the previous one. I used search a lot since I knew what I was looking for, and all you had to do was use the onscreen keyboard. Now I have to use their vertical letter format which requires me to wait for the next key to download. It's nice if you don't know what you are looking for but If I didn't know what I was looking for I'll use something else.
Then I noticed when downloading hyperdimension neptunia mk2's free dungeon dlc about 75% of the DLC wasn't downloading and for a while I couldn't even get into the games DLC list. Granted this game has in the area of a 100 items of DLC or so but still it was annoying to say the least.
If you change something at least improve on it with the changes
@JamesThePrince They made it similar to Xbox 360 interface now. If you can find the game you're looking for, everything relating to it will be on that game page. I believe all of these changes on Xbox 360 and PS3 is for tablet-friendly sake.
The new playstation store is complete garbage. Glad I won't have to go through it using the ps3.

holy crap is that picture correct in that the BO:II season pass is 64.95!!?? that's more than the game itself ROFL
1 Like @ishasan00 I don't think so, I tried to add my credit card in the account management of SOE (web-based) and it still wouldn't let me. However there are 2 workarounds.
1) Buy a region-1 PSN card in your country (the most common solution), or buy it from Amazon using your credit card, they will give you the code right away, no waiting times!!!
2) Use a credit card that doesn't check your address, like American Express or a VIRTUAL credit card (like eMaster Card).
1 Like I've used the EU web store, it works faster than the PS3's. This is good for users who have to travel and want to buy a game from the store without using a PS3 (especially when there are disccounts for a limited time)
1 Like Well this is good news. I can't imagine that a browser store will be as clunky as the multimedia cluster**** that you have to use on PS3 now.
1 Like The reason more people are taking more time in the PS store is because the nobody knows where everything is now compared to how it was before. It even runs a lot slower which is not what I would call an improvement.
1 Like I love my PS3 but whoever designed the new store needs to be fired!!! What a disorganized confusing mess they created. I don't undestand why they changed it when no one was complaining to begin with..IDIOTS!!!
2 Like not a fan of the new store app, its slow and feels like my ps3 is gonna explode at any moment when I'm in the app.
If you think about it, they probably designed the store for PS4 and then 'Ported' it to PS3, hence what we have today
