Wii U box art revealed

[UPDATE] Retailers Amazon, Target, and Best Buy offer first look at packaging for upcoming Wii U software; Nintendo confirms design.
The Wii U's software box design, at least according to several retailers, has been revealed. Retailers Amazon, Target, and Best Buy have updated their listings for several Wii U games to show what gamers can expect to see on store shelves when the console hits this holiday season.
The art design (at right) includes a blue and white Wii U logo on the top of the box. This is set on top of a convex blue background, which is very similar to that of the GameCube. A Nintendo Network logo is also shown on the box.
[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, a Nintendo representative confirmed the leaked Wii U box designs in a statement sent to GameSpot.
“Nintendo has finalized the design of the Wii U game box art, and many of our publishing partners have already incorporated it into their own game packaging," reads a line from the statement. "We are seeing those game packages online as retailers are starting to showcase their games. For details about a specific game’s artwork, please contact the game’s publisher. Nintendo-published game boxes will appear shortly with placeholder logos, and then ultimately with the final artwork for each game.”
As for the Wii U, Nintendo's first high-definition console is due out worldwide this holiday season. No price or release date for the console has been revealed, though Nintendo said the price will be "reasonable," and according to Toki Tori 2 developer Two Tribes, the system will "probably" ship this November.
Though Nintendo believes the Wii U is "important for the world," Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter is less than enthused about the console, saying the Wii U "isn't going to work."

Yawn..I can't wait for 4kHDTV to ship end of this year...mainly for my next computer monitor...Oh wait? this is about the game box art for Nintendo FAIL U game ports from last gen..and kidsy games......My bad...carry on.Sad that resident evil 4 was the only game I enjoyed on my Wii...and my Gamecube...
2 Like And all this time I thought Nintendo was secretly waiting to surprise us all at any minute and announce a brand new name for their next console like they did with the Ultra 64 and Revolution. My hopes have been crushed. Still calling it the Wii U Nintendo?... Oh God Why.........
3 Like I love the fact that it uses the GCN's style! Hopefully the exclusives use the little flap at the top right saying "only on Wii U."
I like the GameCube-type banner they went with - the Wii banner just looked, I don't know, plain :/
2 Like The yellow line attracts attention when just glanced over. And the full blue cases will make sure people know it's for the Wii U and not the Wii. It's the absolute perfect artwork from a marketing standpoint. It's just a bonus that it happens to be gorgeous.

I don't like the yellow, or the shade of blue, or something. I just feel like it's wrong. Oh well.
1 Like It's pretty neat, I always loved the Gamecube logo... Even if I would have chosen another tone of blue, brigher or darker.

What's in the launch packages (SKU)?
What are the launch games (months 1-4)?
Box art is fun, but it's not important. It's a milestone that means little to nothing to the people hanging on the edge of their seat for this launch.

9 Like I'm not getting a Wii U anytime soon. I just don't see any rush to get it at launch. A year from now maybe, but this holiday I'll be spending my dough on several console and PC games.

@LindBergh2007 $299, mark my words. And it's better than PS3. Gamespot neglected to report the statement from EA saying that in FIFA 13 the crowd resolution is stronger than in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
1 Like Blu-Ray case for next gen?
Sony Started the DVD case trend with the PS2, right after Sega's Dreamcast did the last of the CD cases for games. That DVD case trend worked so well that Nintendo and Xbox went the same route the entire gen, then the 360 and Wii followed suit. I'm curious if the Wii U will stay DVD or go into Blu-ray case style.

who's gonna buy the wiiu version over the PS3 & 360 version im not bashing the wiiu its just why wait for the wii u version when xbox & ps3 gets it much sooner let alone on the PC version which kills the consoles version i mean lets get real now. me im looking for the PC version .
1 Like @demonkingx5 I'll be waiting for the WiiU version of AC3, and I'll be buying my 3rd copy of Arkham City on WiiU as well. In case you're wondering, I bought 2 copies on launch day- preordered my CE at Gamestop for the Joker map and the skins and a standard edition at Best Buy for the Robin pack.
2 Like I was just messing with you, but the PC has to deal with archaic DRM too much. That sucks.
In response to your question, it's the same person that's gonna buy the Wii U. If one wants to spend that much on a console, thats only one of a handfull of games worth getting at launch. Someone buying the Wii U will wait & get it just because journalists are saying it's the best looking version (GameTrailers said so, and they didn't have a qualifier, "out of the consoles").
Others will get it because they support Nintendo & want them to succeed. Many I know don't want the PC version cuz they disavow anything Ubisoft does on PC. Those same people might want "something" close to next gen, and, again, AC3 just happens to be a game that Wii U buyers will get to justify buying the Wii U at launch. If I were getting a Wii U at launch, I'd get AC3 for it over all other avenues, myself.
3 Like The U part in WiiU looks like sexual intercourse to me. I guess they're relentlessly trying to drive home a message that the console is seriously catered to mature audiences.
If they released a black version, I may bite. Seeing them release better colors, bundles, prices etc. like clockwork after the people who buy their stuff for full price get the dull stuff makes me never want to buy a Ninty product upon release again. Since black would be the color I'd be waiting on, I may bite if the Wii U is available in black & meets, or exceeds, expectations (which shouldn't be hard, lol).
I still can't get over the awful name 'Wii-U'... to the average person it isn't even that clear from images that it is even a new console... the console looks very similar and other than the Tablet controller it just looks like an add-on.They should have just called it Wii 2... that way it is actually clear. As for the box art, it looks like the Gamecube ones, which is a welcome design in my book
1 Like @mtait01 They should have used the old Wii codename, "Revolution". Now THAT would've been a cool name. Plus, it sounds a little more like a hardcore name, a name I can take seriously, unlike "Wii U"
