GameStop source says new console to ship in time for popular US shopping season; other sources suggest console delayed in Europe to December due to manufacturing issues.
The Wii U may be on store shelves the week of the Black Friday shopping period in the United States, a new GoNintendo report suggests. The site references a GameStop employee's account, which also indicates that Wii U preorders will open sometime next week.
Black Friday is the colloquial term for the day after Thanksgiving. It typically signals the beginning of the holiday season shopping period and has historically been a boon for Nintendo, among others. This year, Black Friday falls on November 23.
Last year, sales of the 3DS during the week of Black Friday surged 49 percent week-over-week. Nintendo software also benefited from launching during the popular shopping week, with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword becoming the fastest-selling installment in the role-playing game series to date after its launch November 20 for the Wii.
A November release date for the Wii U falls in line with what Toki Tori 2 developer Two Tribes said earlier this year, slating the console to "probably" arrive in November.
Separately, people reportedly familiar with the matter have told CVG that the Wii U will launch across Europe in December, missing a previously projected November date. The sources said manufacturing issues with the Wii U GamePad are the reason the system has reportedly been delayed.
As of press time, Nintendo had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

If the WiiU launches on Black Friday...that is gonna be uuuuugly! Crowds are already crazy enough on that day and the weekend that follows it.
I may wait but only because I want a black Wii U and don't want to get stuck with the white one as it happened with my launch day Wii

2 Like In this article, Gamespot said that GoNintendo said that some dude from New Jersey said that an unknown source said that a Gamestop employee said that the WiiU will be launched on Black Friday. Seems legit.

4 Like @Tamarisk_green I hate it when people call The Legend of Zelda games a role-playing series. I don't see health bars and hp flying out of enemies heads in numbers. I don't see skill trees or attribute points. All I see is a simple scheme masterfully executed in Action Adventure.

you play the role of a hero. cast spells with a magic bar, collect money buy beter equipment.
A lot of people like to half/ass look at Zelda and be like yeah if an Action Adventure. than some say Demon's Souls and Dark Souls aren't JRPG, Hell theymade from the same creators that made PS1 King's Field Series in japan. and this was on Psone way before WRPG even existed. :P
Id rather the American version was delayed if it meant Pandora's Tower would be released in North America.
Another reason I'm glad I work that day and don't go out to eat for lunch, its already a crazy day why add to it.
Anyone wondering at the reference to the LofZ as an RPG series? It is an action adventure series. Always has been.

4 Like @bongsyas_23 You do realize this is Nintendo we're talking about, not Sony or Microsoft. The home consoles they launch is almost always in prime shape and usually takes up to 2 years before a price cut.

Haven't gotten a Nintendo console since the GameCube but I've been missing the great Nintendo classics! Maybe I'll give the Wii-U a shot.
1 Like Release a new console the week of the biggest and most deadly sales day of the year... Yeah, that's a great idea. Unlike other years where people trample each other over discounted TV's this year parents and grandparents will go head to with Gamers DBZ-style to get Wii U bundles. I'm DEFINITELY carrying a tazer this year when I hit up Gamestop and Best Buy. Only way to survive an L.A. black Friday if Nintendo plans to release a console during this mess.

They said it would be available for black friday, that means it would launch the sunday before, November 18, the day they always launch new consoles on
I really doubt they would launch the system on Black Friday. For one thing, Black Friday is a sales day. They can't open with a sale. It also would be a terrible convenience. It's hard enough to find new systems on launch day sometimes (depending on where you live). On Black Friday, I wouldn't even try.

I guarantee nobody will buy the Wii-U, especially on Black Friday because the Wii-U is a piece of crap and Nintendo sucks. I also guarantee that nobody will fight over the Wii-U on Black Friday because nobody wants it.

6 Like @comb5 @emperiox He must be a new Michael Patcher intern. Every gaming professional / "analyst" and their mother thought the Wii wouldn't sell and it sold > 90 million units. I am not saying that the Wii U will repeat it's success, but to discount it automatically is laughable. Look at Sega Dreamcast - unbeatable hardware and controller at the time and it barely sold. Can't underestimate that a lot of kids want an iPad nowadays. Well the Wii U is a console and a tablet. That's almost like a 2 in 1 for parents.
I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a store on Black Friday, but that's me. A console release on top of all the other stupidity? Who wants to bet someone gets maced for a WiiU?

I'll probably just watch this one from afar and see what comes of it.
We had 2 people die on Black Friday last year in my city. Death by crazy stampede into Target. This is not going to help matters. Ah, whatever, I'm still going to try for it anyway. Hope they start those pre-orders soon.

This would be terrible if true. I remember the 360 coming out days before and that was a nightmare for retailers and consumers.I would much rather the ONLY crowd I'm dealing with would be the gamers, not everyone battling for everything.
