Sources say wrestling game franchise will be sold to Grand Theft Auto parent publisher; unclear if Yuke's will remain developer.
Unspecified sources have told IGN that the WWE franchise license will be sold to Grand Theft Auto parent publisher Take-Two Interactive. Terms of the deal are not known, as these details have reportedly not yet been finalized.
A Take-Two representative said the company does not comment on rumors and speculation.
The official WWE Games Twitter account responded to the rumor, saying, "We don't have any details to share yet, but there will continue to be WWE Games. Stayed tuned for more information and some exciting news."
It is not clear if Take-Two will keep Yuke's--longtime series developer and owner of the game engine--on board for future games.
The WWE license was notably absent from THQ's formal auction process yesterday that saw its other franchises and studios sold to five different publishers.
wwe on pc...man....11 years drought on pc...so that's the biggest step you can take first....since you are parent publisher of titles like gta....I would like to see more open sandbox type game..especially in a self created player career mode...thirdly, lots of serious refinements such that rey mysterio is not able to lift up big show like a basket ball
What I liked about the past games was the community interaction with the fans and how they listened to our suggestions and helped made a good product. I'm afraid that will be lost in the transition. All that the series has gained in the last year will probably be lost and end up a mediocre game in the end...
This could end up being either good or bad news. On the good side of things Take Two might bring in a new developer or develop their first WWE game in house with a new engine built from scratch which would mean a WWE game that didn't feel just like the last one but with a few tweaks On the bad side, being new to the WWE game licence they could royally fluff it up. Needless to say as a WWE and WWE game fan I for one will be interested to see how this one pans out.
@ebonyflame you pass up on a licesnse that brings in MILLIONS OF DOLLARS....MILLIONS OF DOLLARS....MILLIONS OF DOLLARS....MILLIONS OF DOLLARS?
@FILIPINOY209 @ebonyflame I would indeed as the investment in the title would take away from other things that could be worth even more such as Bioshock, GTA, etc. They already have a stable full of great games, okay games and mediocre games. They should instead focus their energies on creating and improving their existing titles since Take Two is another company that is always teetering on the verge of collapse every few years.
WWE '13 was awesome just because of the Attitude era mode. I'm excited to see 2K get it. They have great sports games. Just please dump Yukes, 2K. Oh, and give us Macho Man Randy Savage for a game. He died for our sins in 2012 so the world wouldn't end, at least give him a roster spot in the next game.
Dump Yukes for crying out loud! Back to a tried-and-true grappling engine like WWF No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2! AKI-engine 4 LIFE!!!
Maybe i could return to this tiltles, yukes stop making decent tiltles and creating garbage after smkvs raw 2007
So shooting a gun in a virtual environment is only okay when you do not shoot virtual people, but instead virtual targets? The "people" (Really a collection of polygons made to resemble people) in the games are just like the targets you shoot, not real.
@Brokazaki Typical moon response.
@CyhortI82 If the people who make the MLB 2K games are doing WWE games, they will suck and people will BEG for THQ/Yukes back.
@nerdriot Get a less expensive hobby then.
@wwefan4ever 2K Sports games? MORE LIKE MLB 2K!! The Show is always the better series in baseball anyways. NBA 2K on the other hand is very good if you like basketball! EA SPORTS is the sports maker you shoud hate with a passion, I DO! I want NFL 2K back, MADDEN SUCKS!!! Other than NHL and FIFA, EA sports sucks BALLS PERIOD!! EA made MVP and NCAA basketball games DISAPPEAR from the market, so I'VE GOT NO LOVE FOR THEM AT ALL!! Monpolies KILL compitition and make games STALE. Bottom line bring back PC sports games, MVP Baseball, AND NFL 2K!!
@wwefan4ever 2k better trash yukes and use there own teams thq sucks at sports game the wwe games were almost unplayable and the ufc games were broken trash
Take 2, just go back and play SmackDown 2 (PS1), and amplify it for the modern age. That's all that ever needed to be done. And make the roster like 50% wrestlers from the 80's and 90's. Boom. Big seller.
Not like I care, even though a wrestling game is just higher than scum, it still isn't even close to exciting.
I don't care about this crap who in the hell is getting vigil (darksiders franchise) I am hopping its not crapcom
Please for the love of all that is holy or sacred let Take-Two get the WWE license!!!
I'm sick of these annual shitty wrestling games!
The games are fine just the way they are and now with the change we might get a piece of shit like the TNA game.
@huehefner89 Not from Take Two!
@huehefner89 Have a little faith. TNA's game was made by Midway Games. Take-Two is a much more reputable company and will undoubtedly steer the WWE franchise in the right direction.
WWE 12 was a mess. So many bugs and poor controls. WWE 13 is definitely better, but the series could use a reboot.
Yukes have been making these games for years and they are all very similar. Kind of reminds me of EA and the Madden, NCAA Football and NBA Live series. Same game, different year. I think they should let another company develop the game. See if we can get some innovative gameplay and content for the series.
With all due respect to Yukes, I wouldn't mind a new developer take over. Let's see what someone else might do with with the product. Take Two also owns the 2K sports games, do they not? How about them?
Why report on something you don't know the answer to?
Just in- Does Eddie Makuch eat Camel knees?
The answer is a long and convoluted, "we don't know." There is no information at this time. When we asked others, they replied," no comment."
My brother buys the games and they are almost exactly the same each year. Would it kill them to add some originality to the series?
For the love of god would the new owners please give All Stars 2 the go ahead? Now THAT was a good WWE game. Really good, fun gameplay. Just lacked in content. A sequel could be amazing.
