wow im gone for like a few weeks not checking the news and BAM! i see this. Im pre-ordering this thing now!....or in a few days.. lol
[UPDATE] Nintendo lists long-awaited Wii RPG as an April release, now available to preorder from GameStop or direct from Nintendo itself.
Monolith Soft's Xenoblade Chronicles has been highly anticipated by a certain sect of Wii and role-playing game fans, but it was feared the game would never see a release in North America after Nintendo said it had no plans to localize the game. That has apparently changed, as Nintendo today posted new Xenoblade art to its Facebook page as rumors swirled that the title would be exclusive to specialty retailer GameStop.
A spy shot of what is purported to be a GameStop release list popped up on games forum NeoGAF earlier this morning showing an entry reading "Xenoblade Chronicles GS Exclusive" listed as an April 3 release. As if to corroborate the leak, Nintendo of America subsequently posted three pieces of concept art from the game on its Facebook page.
This latest wrinkle follows a fan campaign to convince Nintendo to localize and release three games--Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower--in North America, dubbed Project Rainfall. It's hard to say whether this is a direct result of the fan initiative, but it is likely to garner Nintendo some good will within the community.
Even if Xenoblade is coming to NA early next year, it's no guarantee that the other two Project Rainfall games will receive the same treatment. However, like Xenoblade before them, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower are slated for a release in Europe next year.

[UPDATE] Nintendo has confirmed the news and put up a product page for Xenoblade Chronicles on its North American website. The page lists the game as an April release and has links to preorder the title from GameStop and directly from Nintendo itself.
I don't have a Wii, and since I have a good PC, an XBox, and a PS3 (old 80GB), I need a pretty good justification to get a new system. This might be it.
@koospetoors The reason I said thankfully is as follows: Wii gamers get the shaft period. We get an exclusive game promised, and then it goes multiplatform. A game that was specifically designed with the Wii in mind should stay a Wii exclusive. I mean look at the port of No More Heroes for the PS3. It was designed for Wii, so they thought they could make an HD version with Move support and it sucked.
A good game is a good game, no matter what system it's on. While my Wii hasn't been collecting dust, it does need a new game.
This might be the first Wii game I buy on release day since Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Definitely getting all three of these assuming the other two come to the US as well.
This is great news. I'm still scratching my head as to why it's taken this long. You would think with how massive Project Rainfall is...why they just now decided to release to the NA markets. Pre ordered it today. Stoked!
@shadowysea07 Oh, I wrote that because of Namco Tales Saga. You know, Vesperia, Xillia, Graces, the last ones. I want them to bring those :P... but instead they bring Knights Contract only!
well...to little to late. this should be pushed back and be a Wii U launch. they can work on it some more, update graphics i dont know, but it wont sell in the few months that Wii has left. I will be getting it, no matter what though.
@shadowysea07 I'm sure Atlus would love to distribute their games to everyone around the world and I wasn't drawing parellels to them with Nintendo. I was just pointing out to a Gamespot user that his comment about Atlus learning not to be location exclusive was false since they only publish their games in North America and Asia. I love Atlus games and I import almost all of them. I even modded my Wii to play Trauma Team since it never was localised in PAL. :(
@robertwarnes91 wow way to sound like a jerk. atlus would release games everywhere if it had branches world wide to do so. its not their fault in the slightest. atlus is a very small company to begin with. if you are going to complain complain about companies that release games as exclusives to countries when they do have branches in alot of places like bamco and nintendo. though bamco has a little wiggle room.
Even if the other games in "operation rainfall" don't make it stateside operation rainfall is more successful than most online petitions. (or movements, if you think this qualifies as one lol) At the least it gives me some hope for the getmeoffthemoon guys.
@Vraeth Or it could have been a marketing a marketing strategy, to build up anticipation and the fans crave for it, or maybe they said that to see the reaction, testing to see if it looked like it would sell enough to justify. Developers have used similar marketing strategies, wouldn't be surprised to see if that was what this was.
Wow I might have take out my Wii again. It's only been in the box for 3 years now. Xenoblade does look pretty good.
@Kefka- First off, emulator talk isn't allowed on GS. Secondly, emulating it would mean not supporting the developers meaning they are less likely do continue making games like that. Thirdly, if you don't have a PC capable of making the game look superior on Dolphin (as the quality is dependent on your graphics card) then it's gonna cost you more than 3 times the price of getting a Wii solely for whatever Wii game you're gonna emulate.
Good to see that those in the US can experience this game without having to import. I just realised how weird that sounded.
I'm no longer a Wii owner, but so happy for the fans that are! You guys worked hard to bring this game to NA, and deserve it fully! Cheers, and have fun!
I see why some games aren't released in the US. But I can't believe they had to think about this one. It did so well in Europe and from what I can tell, fared well as an import here in America. Thanks, NIntendo, for finally seeing the light. I can't wait for this title.
This was a no-brainer to everyone except Nintendo, apparently. With the relatively weak library of the Wii, it was ridiculous of them not to plan on a release of one of the best console games this generation in such a massive market.
Xenoblade Chronicles is probably the best RPG I've played this year (and yes, I played Skyrim), I had to get the european version but I'm glad it's finally coming to America
Good to hear, now I will have a wii game to play next year instead of only 3DS ones until the WII U hits.
@robertwarnes91 And stop playing my Wing Commander games and wishing they would make one more with all the actors that was a prequel of some sort??Never! ;)
@BloodMist Final Fantasy VII was the first FF gme we ever got in PAL :( . But sadly the reality of gaming is very harsh. I think the lesson is (and its a very annoying one) that we should stick to mainstream games and not niche ones. You get less disappointment that way :(
@Smithers2286 Aw Shucks! :( But a man can still dream, right? And if I may ask, why did you say thankfully? Its not like going multi-platform is a bad thing, you know.
@koospetoors There won't be a PS3/360 version, because Monilith Software is owned by Nintendo. This is will stay exclusive thankfully.
Good news for North American gamers. Us Europeans know what it's like to have to wait months for some great games. It's a shame that most people who want the game will have already imported it from Europe.
Awesome! Would've bought this game in a heartbeat if I still had a Wii. But eh, hopefully one day there will be a PS3\360 version... hopefully.
@robertwarnes91 Well, it was a lot more than being screwed over once, if FFVI/III is any proof but...well my point still stands in that it doesn't really make any sense.
@BloodMist Atlus learned that games shouldn't be location exclusive? You do know Atlus only publishes their games in Asia and North America, ignoring the Oceania, African and European markets. I mean Trauma Team still hasn't been released in PAL and it will never happen. This is what I find so puzzling is that American gamers get screwed once and believe they being bullied by game companies. While Europe, Africa and Oceania have endured a life time of being screwed that continues to this day. Ironically Xenogears, Xenosaga Episode 1 and 3 were never released in PAL.
since it is already in English should come here way earlier than April but oh well its better than not getting it at all Great news and now im playing the easy but fun new Kirby game and skyward sword These will keep me going until January maybe even until February Love when their is great Wii games out
