GameSpot reviews Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.
Just picked up online for Ģ3.99, be able to compare to FIFA 09 which I've dabbled but hardly play regularly. Like the vid review I've already noticed the graphics quality e.g.Chelsea's Drogba is recognizable in FIFA. Still for the price can't moan and a few achievements along the way.
PES had its time...EA finally got their act together, and FIFA's been on top since 09, if not 08.
PES needs to stop fooling around and need to get the liceneces for the teams, especially for the top leagues. you could overlook that when FIFAs game play was way behind PES, but now it has almost catched up if it hasnt already
Fifa is best in next gen!!!!! pes sucks, is slow, buggy, horrible animations, etc, pes win fifa in the ps2, the game stay better in that platform, but in ps3, x360 and pc fifa is best!!! in all aspects
PES and FIFA are like Killzone and Resistance, you don't know wich of these two you will buy
I have both FIFA09 n PES09, I say PES.. I think it is the feel of the game that FIFA never really captured.... I've switched from FIFA to PES in 2004/05.. this year I bought FIFA09 because of all the media hype.. it only lasted me for less than 1 hour... PES on the other hand is still the old PES.. but hey.. it works... why mend if it is not broken
I recently bought the game, and I wasn't satisfied at all. Not what you could describe as a bad game, but I expected much more. Beyond any doubt, FIFA 09 is better. And to be slightly heretic, I would say that EURO 2008 is even better than this year's games.

@ vieri321 man, i couldn't agree with you more. i too bought into the hype of fifa being this amazing game. . it sucks so much, i can't begin to tell you how mad i was at myself for buying it. a half baked PES 2009 is still much, much better than this piece of garbage. EA sure knows how to advertise.
I am a PES fan and made the mistake of buying FIFA 09 when it came out. I have never bought a FIFA game since FIFA 2000 and after a few days playing FIFA 09 I regretted buying it. I think PES deserves a much better score than the 7.0 gamespot have given it. It deserves a score that is close to that given to FIFA 09 if not better. The only things I found better on FIFA 09 than in PES 2009 was the music, the online gameplay and the commentary. As for everything else, especially the gameplay, PES 2009 is much better.
I think this is the only game sold in all consoles that is better on the wii, controls are sick!
I have not play pes09 or fifa 09 yet. But I have to admit konami can do lot more. Licenses are bought out by fifa so no hope there. Sound can be improve if we can import our own sound and music. Why don't konami just hire better commenters. I just got online in pes08 and have to admit it is fun to play against human player. But the lagging issue is off putting. One big thing i starting to notice the player movement direction, there should be a little more with update graphic . I will wait for PES2010 while i play pes08.
Lots of new features and graphical improvements.But it is as it always was-The FIFA series is heck of a lot better !
PES 08 scored 6.0 and PES 09 score 7.0. Fifa 09 score 8.6, i have to go with fifa this year.
Its clear that most people are moving to fifa because its better.. PES hasnt changed since many many years.. They just stay stuck with that same gamplay that impressed people at that time.. People hav evolved, consoles have evolved, taste has evolved but PES hasnt.. I have to admit pes is fun but not realistic!!
This game is baad. The player run like they are robots, it doesnīt look normal, and the AI seems week, i think you can score a goal in less than two moves of the ball, cīmon, its poor this version, and FIFA itīs and will be always the best....only fifa 2004 was bad...
I think PES has become what FIFA was. EA released a new game every year with just updated names, teams, minor tweaks to gameplay and still people bought the latest release by the bucketload. Slowly catching up with it was PES, which now seems to have taken over the mantle of "let's innovate, update and improve as little as possible as people will buy it, cos it's PES".
Omg, you can't tell me this is FIFA's competition!!!! its awful!! looks broken, the menu looks crappy, the players look like the ones from FIFA 98!!! Has so few stadiums, teams, players, options, realism, oh GOD! The gameplay looks so arcadey! not real at all!!!! the players look like they don't have any order at all!!! this game really deserves a 4. I bought my PS3 because when I showed my dad FIFA 08 he was so impressed how real it looked. I bet that if I show him this game he won't even care about how bad it looks! Konami's games are getting soooo bad. Even MGS4 didn't impress me much. I feel pity for them, they are FAR behind in the gaming industry.

i have to agree with the speaker, he put it very well towards the end. as a dedicated PES player, its becoming quite hard to retort my fifa-supporting friend's arguments on the lack of graphic realism, crap commentary or the usual fact that there are still no licenses on those teams we time and time again hope for. chances are i will still buy this game over the fifa games, but i dearly hope there will be a massive improvement next year because at this rate, konami will lose too much of their support to properly come back with better games. dont let fifa and EA monopolize the sport-video-game industry!!
DONT BELIEVE IT U GUYS! 110% TRUE I've read most of the comments here, and most of them are hella praising fifa 09 over pes09. I Believe Most of these guys havent played both games, to really compare it. I know the 2008 version of fifa totally nailed pes 2008 on the Head. So I guess, everybody didnt bother buying pes09. Anyways, pes2009 is different than pes08. And u know what?.. as a matter of fact Fifa changed their gameplay from 08 - 09 aswell. Me and My friend are both hardcore Soccer fans. The Reviews were pretty delayed so we couldnt wait, My friend bought both games, and we tried out in the PS3. When I played Euro 2008, I was afraid that fifa would bring it's gameplay to 09. And my god, thats exactly what happened. I was Pretty Dissapointed with FIFA 09's gameplay, I know they have more features and they's improved the passing, defence and all. BUT they should had stick with the 2008's gameplay since it was more realistic and hardcore i guess, I enjoyed playing fifa 08 a lot i still do.You dont have to change the entire gameplay every year.. u just improve the weak section. "Dont try fix, what isnt broken". 2009 doesnt feel real at all, feels TWEAKY, and the ball feels PUFFY, u'll know there's something wrong with it when ur playing it. ps - players running is just wowful, and why's their legs so skinny.. faces looks like zombies.. ??? well it's EA. what can u expect. Now let's talk about pes09. Right after the Ref blew the whistle, and we started playin .. wow,, i was very very impressed. really. It feels so real, the atmosphere is so pleasing, and when u score a goal it's so much satisfying. They've improved the graphics aswell, the rain is just awesome. It's konami so the graphics kinda look like MGS4. I know the gameplay is not much different, but that what makes pes so good, their gameplay. You all should try the BE A LEGEND mode it's super cool. UEFA Champions League comes with it Aswell, unlike Fifa! they try it to sell separately. After that I bought PES09 for myself, and Im totally hooked with it. And for Fifa, right now I'm sticking with 08. I think I'll wait for Fifa10. Now PES needs to really really Improve their Online Gameplay. Really, then it would be perfect. Conclusion - In the end what Really Matters is the Gameplay, it should FEEL REAL. And only the ones who actually play and watch soccer in real life will Feel that. I can't beleive what I'm about to say? After playing PES 2009 for a month I'm sacking it for FIFA 09. Online play is so laggy that players teleport across the pitch.
i dont feel ready to change to fifa, even if pes isnt a great game its gameplay is the best.
it pains me to say that I'm going with fifa this year after being a PES/WE fan for the last decade ... Konami needs to wake up and do something about the pes series, seriously

Ever since PES has moved from the PS2 it is pure garbage. Guess the developers do not know how to program for the PS3 and 360.
I'm so glad I went with FIFA this year. I bought PES last year and it was almost exactly the same as PES 4 and 5. I always hated the lack of licences and the poor presentation, while the gameplay was good. FIFA is so good now though that you'd be stupid not to go with it. Gameplay is just as good and the presentation, licences and game modes make it three or four times better than PES. And this is coming from a long time PES/WE fan.
