Oooohhhhh, that explains the orginal set up.There were some impossible match-ups but it's all games and all in the name of fun; right?

Armed with a bingo blower and 64 balls, we determine the first round match-ups for this year's People's Choice Game of the Year award voting.
wth.. you need to show the balls to the camera and show your invisible list of which number corresponds to which game otherwise you could be making all this up... Just for show. Nice tricks though.
Regardless whether you like the song or not, the Gamespot staff should make a video at the end with the music "Gangnum style". Besides, how do they have fun once they loosen up?
random matchups seem kinda stupid.Guild Wars2 vs max payne 3.Those two games have NOTHING in common. All your basically doing is choosing the game that has the most sales. Why not categorize mmorgs together and then get an action 3rd person shooters.Once the top game in each category decided(they should get best of category)then maybe put em all together. Not a good way to do this at all.
took a look @ the brackets & realized that the better games are heavily concentrated on the left-hand side.......not good in my opinion
Very strange way to match game styles. There seems to be nothing in common to to vote on. Would it not have been better to at least but games in categories and vote on the games within each?
Kevin VanOrd, Tom McShea, Jody, Chris, do you guys really love "The Last Story" for the Wii? I do wish for extras like our face icons, wallpapers and maybe video gameplays and walkthroughs. Well, I hope someone can make it happen since it's a superb game to play.
Honestly, ghost recon FS was kind of a let down. It dumbed the concept of ghost recon for past fans, and formed a meh 3rd person shooter for simple shooter fans. The strategy is poop and you dont even play as the ghost leader anymore. The MP also feels very broken with easy spawn kills and maps with tons of invisible walls.
far cry 3 vs crusader kings II ?assassins creed 3 vs Fez? Seriously are you freaking stupid Gamespot? or are you treating people like they are morons? cause your actions show this in every move lately! I'm quickly loosing any respect at gamespot! Next time: DONT LEAVE THOS FUCKING THINGS UP TO LUCK YOU STUPID MORONS! IT'S YOUR JOB TO NOT (!) DO THAT! DO IT RIGHT!
Calm down! This is different to last rounds of Game of the year. Discrimination on games like now is never ideal given it's near the end of the year. As usual, the editors will decide on themselves on which game will get an award on its categories. Even though we love to have the old system back, their aren't a lot of Gamespot Staff recently so for that reason, the award systems will have to be cut short for that reason. Until Gamespot staff gets more creative, with more staff, than you have to bare with what they currently have at the end of the year.
@johnnyauau @xloub Being understaffed isn't a reason for this, this is bullshit and you know it! It's lack of ideas the reason of this and being lazy!
Nevertheless, you'll have to get used to it, regardless on how right you are. I'm not picking a fight. I'm just telling you how it is. If you still don't like it, take it up to administration and see how far you can go with you're opinion on this matter. If people like Jeff Gerstmann, Alex Navarro and Brad Shoemaker is still here today, their influence would already be there.
@xloub So you'd rather we handpick the matchups and have everyone accuse of us bias when their favorite game is pitted against a more popular one? If you have a suggestion, I'm all ears.
@JusticeCovert How about using a vote system to decide the pairs, how about you put qualified persons to decide the pairs, people that are PAID to critisise video games and know the genres and which game MUST be compared with what! Anything would do instead of leaving those things in luck! Come on, assassins creed 3 vs Fez? for Jesus Christ, get serious!
@xloub @JusticeCovert luck or not, in the end the one with more votes is the winner, so i think it's still the same thing
@JusticeCovert Yes, it would, wanna know why? Because it wouldn't have been based on luck!!! It would have been chosen by the people, with the way you're doing it now, some games will never have the chance to even go a bit forward because you've put it versus an ultimate AAA title. Where is the justice in that? This isn't champion's league!
@xloub But since we're ultimately trying to pick just ONE winner, all of these games are ultimately being compared to each other. That's true of any "Game of the Year". If we organized all of the match-ups in the first round as you suggest, maybe we'd end up with Assassin's Creed III and Fez in the final - would that really be better?
@JusticeCovert @xloub How about you not change how it worked in previous years? I (and I'm sure everyone else) was content with just voting on genre awards, platform awards, special achievements and finally GOTY, there's absolutely no reason to mix them all in and strip down the readers choice awards to only "game of the year". I hope you guys go back to the old system next year...
pity 2 of the best games, journey and the walking dead, are pitted against each other. Oh well, lotto draw seems fair.
I preferred the way they've done it in the past. I feel like you can't go one way or the other with a lot of these games because they're such different experiences. I mean, Halo 4 vs. Minecraft? There's no comparison. Indie games mixed in with AAA, sports games vs. shooters, it makes no sense. It's like asking someone "which is better, the Beatles or Mozart?" They're too different to be compared.
@twentymooseman I think you're right. I think @GameSpot should compete games with same styles and experiences. Any way, its OK.
I think games like AC:III and Diablo III should be put against other A+ studio games. They should have different brackets for games based on budget used for developing a game. Then we can choose the best quality game based on budget which would then have decent games being put up against each other in the later rounds.
I really wish there was a separate category for some of these games. Spelunky was an amazing game. Fez is, in my opinion, one of the best games I've ever played. But they are being pitted against games that were developed by > 100 people, and were developed for the masses. Really I just feel bad for the developers, because you know that Phil Fish would appreciate winning game of the year way more than nameless AC3 developers.

I wonder if the award ceremony is going to be funnier? Perhaps someone is getting a black eye for being clumsy.
Somebody count how many times they say "beloved"... not too great with adjective variety.
I like the idea of a completely random matchup like that. My problem is with how the random drawing was done. Picking air blown balls from a bingo machine is fine, but their corresponding numbers that match up to a game, needed to be shown to the viewers prior to them being assigned. As it is now, they say "number 38 which is so and so game, and number 43, which is so and so game." And they are reading those games off a list, that's OUT OF VIEW for the viewers. So for all we known, the games could have been pre-matched, and then no matter what number comes up each time, they just assign the two games they want to them.
It was a nice attempt at being fair GameSpot.....but you had to know what I'm describing would be an issue. And the only reason for showing how the seeds were picked, is because everyone that has ever even visited GS, knows how these contests of yours are soooooo rigged. Or at least reeks of being rigged.
@JJames3dCG Here's that list you wanted. It went live a couple of days before the draw: http://www.gamespot.com/features/incoming-best-of-2012-awards-6400987/
@JJames3dCG They had, as far as i know since i didn't saw it myself, the list on the site, also if you pay attention, you will notice that it's arranged by alphabetic order.
They should've arranged these match-ups based on genre. Pitting a racing game against an RPG, or pitting a survival horror game against a shooter is stupid.
