Danny returns to Black Mesa and City 17 to remind us how Gordon Freeman saved first-person shooters forever.
This article is really really good.
Been a long time since I found a really good article here at Gamespot.
Excellent work
Hey @dannyodwyer ! What's the music at the beggining? Brilliant episode btw, don't mind the length
@Morphine_OD Its a song in the half life 2 soundtrack. When your escaping city 17 i think
lol just noticed some of this is pure copy paste from wikipedia: "After having dropped out of Harvard University[2] Newell spent thirteen years working for Microsoft Corporation, ultimately becoming a "Microsoft Millionaire". Newell has described himself as "producer on the first three releases of Windows".[3] Inspired by Michael Abrash, who left Microsoft to work on the computer game Quake at id Software, Newell and another Microsoft employee, Mike Harrington, left Microsoft to found Valve in 1996"
halflife is a great game, but it wasn't nearly revolutionary as this guy makes it sound.
@jockie_chanWasn't revolutionary? Are you a troll or a retard? Shut up useless idiot.
"They Hunger" was amazing!!! God I loved that mod. I played through it about 10 times, probably more than the actual single player for Half-Life.
Ah, the good old days. Before FPSs had to have iron sighting and before singleplayer took a back seat, there was Half-Life.
i Hope HL 3 comes out soon...but thats it. just end IT! no half life 3 part 1 or 2. episode 5 bullcrap. G VS freeman... final showdown!!! if u stretch out this franchise, ull end up just like the duke nukems, quakes and unreal tournaments.... dead!!! trade in value of 2$ :( just make it as modable and customizable as half life 1, and the replay value will never end!!!
I don't think we'll see HL3 for a long time still. Valve's probably wanting to make sure it doesn't fumble a sequel in it's signature franchise.
I knew Half-life but I never I imagined the scale and influence of it except for Counter-Strike of course.
First time you catch a power shot from an elite combine gun and shoot it back at them, priceless..
Geebus effin' christ... It's been 14 years since I played HL for the first time... 14 years.... And still no EP3 :/ Btw, Source engine was and is really overrated. Physics and sounds were/are great, but graphics were rather mediocre from the get-go. I'm a modder and graphic designer so don't rage on me for stating a pretty obvious observation :] Models and lightning were fine, but textures and materials were just botched. I could explain in detail, but that would take way too much space :P
salute to HL franchize...actually i think that gameplay, with all the eye candy and scenes should follow the story ... at least in a way that a new battleground would involve g-man and also a link to all the previous parts...and i bet they will...the left the Aurora question wide open :)
Thanks everyone, though in fairness it's tough to mess up a video about a series like Half Life :D We've frontpage promoted the YouTube version over this in case you're wondering why there aren't many comments.
Although i know so much about the Half-Life story and universe .... its always a pleasure to see it again... The best part about half-life was that each player enjoys it differently.... and its always memorable however you play it. But still Gabe .... at least an announcement this year if not the game please !!!
I Really Liked The Half-Life Episodes And I Hope They Make A Half-Life 3 For Us But I Hope Again That If They Want To Make A HL3 They Shouldn't Ruin Or Change Anything About The Whole Gameplay I Think If They Give Us HL3 With The Same Gameplay Like HL2 BUT With Improved Graphics And More Crazy Weapons And A New Fresh Story That Will Continue The Saga It Would Be PERFECT :D
good games, the second rocked the world, really clever and still today visually impressive.
Half-Life and Deus Ex proved that FPSes can be intelligent and innovative. CoD morons need not apply.
Great episode! The Half-Life series certainly deserves a dedicated episode. The awesome gameplay is only one side of what makes this series so great. I think the narrative where you see everything through Gordon's eyes - there are no cut-scenes, he never speaks (on your behalf), no stop between chapters, no loading screens, everything is continuous - is amazing and creates a suspension of disbelief that's quite unique; you really feel like you are Gordon Freeman in this alternative reality.
It took me a long while to decide Half-Life 2 is both the best game I've ever played and also my favourite. As always Danny, a brilliant guide! :)
As much as I enjoyed the first two games, I will reserve my thoughts on the rest of the game once episode 3 or Half Life 3 come out. Its been far too long, and I am still irritated at Bioware over the end of ME3. So, its better to leave those feeling burning on the inside after a 5 year wait.
Half-Life is the first game I bought, and since then I am a FAN! Like Danny said in Escape from Mount Stupid - 2012 : I is for "I really hope that half life 3 will come out this year"
Ahhh.... Half-Life how I've missed you. I really need to upload these to my new PC. Me and Gordon need to catch up. =D
Half life...I should really, really play these games. And please make a Legend of Zelda video! :D
